Structure Synth / Sunflow

The clock images are experiments for a Timestretch.com logo for my blog. I posted an article on Structure Synth to kick things off.

Stinging Eyes sent me a message about my previous clock image, and mentioned some banding he'd observed. I'd noticed this too, and decided to find a good solution. The image above was rendered using the hdr export format, which exports each pixel in 32 bits per channel. The image files it outputs are huge, but by using Photoshop to dither and convert them back down to standard 8 bits per channel, some banding in the grayscale ramps can be reduced. I can still see some banding in the image above, but I assure you, the PNG file exported directly form Photoshop shows a big improvement!

Hooray, my first Flickr meme participation. See notes for details; the pencil case is recursively expanded. More detail is available on the moleskines as well. (Not shown: scraps of rubbish like old air travel confirmation sheets, receipts, gum wrappers, etc.)

Thank you!

on the table,

who is the teller of this fable?

Law: If the brain was simple enough to understand, then the brain would be too simple to understand itself.

If the brain was complex enough to understand itself, it would be too complex to understand.

Intelligence is self forming. It requires no understanding, no thought. Thoughtlessness produced the universe.

Creativity is really RE-creativity. (re-action) The observer sees a reaction through the coloured glass medium of the mind or ego, mistakes it for thought and for creativity, and the illusion of 'self' is born. This ego self looks back at what it thinks is itself, trying to understand. But what is really looking back, is the same as what is being looked back upon. Can the seer see the seer?

Structure Synth / Sunflow

This one has the same rules as the last image, just a new seed. Inspired by Syntopia's "Nouveau Variation" with 'set seed initial'.

Rendering Notes: Shiny shaders, sphere light, and path tracing.

(I replaced the previously uploaded image with this higher-res render)

I browsed a site on geometry which called the figure formed by two overlapping circles, as in each pair above, the mandorla, rather than the vesica piscis, which I had been seeing, and demonstrated how this shape is central to creating a number of geometric figures, including, many equilateral triangles.

I created this image by imitating this, and continuing to subdivide the equilateral triangles. I then drew out some additional overlapping circles to fit the diminished triangles.

It was only later that I realized that this is not an actual Sierpenski triangle, which has gaps at every level of size, and which has its subdivisions iterated always at the extremities, not at the center.

Idle geometric-ing with Geogebra and random websites as my guide.

Like it? Would send me some bitcoin as a tip?

Longbow "Firebird". Brown

This is a droste effect applied to my big screen TV.

I modified my Structure Synth export preset to include a TopMod generated object. Rendered in Sunflow.

Ten recursive spirals (well, I guess most spirals are recursive, in a sense). A very organic and aquatic look to the final render. Like some weird sea creature. Done with structure synth and sunflow. I especially liked how the reflections in the bottom sphere turned out.

Same idea as this, except I used a radial pleat field.

The pattern in this case seems to emerge as a Hyperbola and Ellipse, respectively; I haven't done the math yet, but I do know that if you move the initial pleats around, you'll get similar results.

Again, this is a result of the interaction between the flat-folding conditions of the Kawasaki theorem and the vector properties of pleats. Beyond that, I'm not sure of the math behind it.

The first six Stieltjes constants as a function of the real or imaginary part of the Riemann zeta function at s = 1+it and previous Stieltjes constants.

Note: This shows the absolute values of the functions and the constants plotted on a logarithmic scale.

Didn't use Photoshop or anything like that for this. Just kept taking a picture of me in front of the picture I'd taken previously. Fun!

Modeled in Structure Synth. Rendered in Sunflow.

Sunflow Rendering Notes: I used 'path' global illumination ray tracing, and the thin lens to blur our the background. I over-sampled the heck out of it to get a nice smooth out of focus areas. (256 samples per subpixel!) To prevent the spheres from going to black, I had to crank up the number of refractive and reflective bounces I allowed.

Single lenless exposure of solid materials. A recursive.

Just some crazy light really

24"X24" Moons of Nebular Genesis juxtaposes dark universe colors to white, to contrast charged Nebular plasmas and their life giving contributions to space. In this case, two Moons are being bathed and seeded by this energetic river of charged gas, plasma.

In the top left corner, there are two faces [a Mayan woman seated and a Dutch face and TriCorner hat]. It was not intentionally painted and appeared after complete drying.

Photo showing the Project "Baitul Ma’mur: House of Angels" by Joe Davis (US) and Sarah Khan (PK) at the Theme Exhibition. A project to keep 2.417 quintillion angels on the head of a pin. The exhibitors had been inspired by repeating geometries and nested calligraphies of Islamic art to demonstrate a similarly recursive scheme for DNA information-keeping.

A rather silly, recursive projection of this panorama.
