Red Squirrel - Sciurus Vulgaris
Highlands, Scotland.
The red squirrel is found in both coniferous forest and temperate broadleaf woodlands. The squirrel makes a drey (nest) out of twigs in a branch-fork, forming a domed structure about 25 to 30 cm in diameter. This is lined with moss, leaves, grass and bark. Tree hollows and woodpecker holes are also used. The red squirrel is a solitary animal and is shy and reluctant to share food with others. However, outside the breeding season and particularly in winter, several red squirrels may share a drey to keep warm. Social organization is based on dominance hierarchies within and between sexes; although males are not necessarily dominant to females, the dominant animals tend to be larger and older than subordinate animals, and dominant males tend to have larger home ranges than subordinate males or females.
Red squirrels that survive their first winter have a life expectancy of 3 years. Individuals may reach 7 years of age, and 10 in captivity. Survival is positively related to availability of autumn–winter tree seeds; on average, 75–85% of juveniles die during their first winter, and mortality is approximately 50% for winters following the first.
Although not thought to be under any threat worldwide, the red squirrel has nevertheless drastically reduced in number in the United Kingdom; especially after the grey squirrels were introduced from North America in the 1870s. Fewer than 140,000 individuals are thought to be left in 2013; approximately 85% of which are in Scotland, with the Isle of Wight being the largest haven in England. A local charity, the Wight Squirrel Project,[26] supports red squirrel conservation on the island, and islanders are actively recommended to report any invasive greys. The population decrease in Britain is often ascribed to the introduction of the eastern grey squirrel from North America, but the loss and fragmentation of its native woodland habitat has also played a role.
In January 1998, eradication of the non-native North American grey squirrel began on the North Wales island of Anglesey. This facilitated the natural recovery of the small remnant red squirrel population. It was followed by the successful reintroduction of the red squirrel into the pine stands of Newborough Forest. Subsequent reintroductions into broadleaved woodland followed and today the island has the single largest red squirrel population in Wales. Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is also populated exclusively by red rather than grey squirrels (approximately 200 individuals).

This is a road I often recommend to our guests but few seem to take me up on my suggestion. It's the B8043 to Kingairloch. Perhaps it is too intimidating for most. It's home to mountain goats, deer, otters and a new pair of sea eagles amongst other wildlife. The local farmer might not be happy I said that

Taken on November 1, 2008 at the fifth station of Mount Fuji, Japan.
Elevation : 2,305 meters or 7,562 feet above sea level.
Temperature: my excitement warmed me up but when we went down I had colds.
This is the farthest and the highest point to which any vehicle is allowed to reach, the 5th Station. If one would want to reach the summit it is from this point that he would start his climb. An overnight trekking is advised to be able to catch up the first streak of the mystical sunrise.

Beating the last trip back to Yokosuka from a day of sunbathing and fun in Monkey Island.
Strange how the island got its name when it was not even a home of a single monkey.
But when I went there, it had one. Hahaha.

I was amazed of the huge, I mean very huge LCD monitor in The Village as shown in my previous upload, but I was more amazed, I mean, astonished of the gigantic LCD that The Place has. There are two, four storey shopping malls beneath two office towers. A huge skyscreen links the two malls. The screen itself is a massive 4800 square meters! At night this screen is an amazing diversion for shoppers and a reflection of Beijing’s determination to show off its modern capabilities when it hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Onscreen is the aerial view of the legendary Great Wall of China.

Photograph captured inside the Real Alcázar in Seville. This place in the urban center of the city and axis of the historic center of Seville, is a walled palace complex built in different historical stages. The original palace was built in the high Middle Ages. Different parts of Islamic art and from the period after the Castilian conquest are preserved, as well as a Mudejar palatial space and another in the Gothic style. In later reforms, Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque elements were added. It is the residence of the members of the Spanish royal family when they visit Seville, this makes it the oldest royal palace in use in Europe. Unesco declared it a World Heritage Site, next to the Cathedral of Seville and the Archivo de Indias, in 1987.

The red bird of paradise is recommended for people who want perennial desert plants (you need to plant them only once). Their botanical name is Caesalpinia pulcherrima. They're evergreen shrubs that feature bright red, orange, and yellow flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
So, I don't recommend trying to line things up if you have OCD, took me way too long to be happy with this one...oh, but all those smiles :)
You'd have to be my age to remember that song...

Keefer Lake, Ontario, Canada - I like Autumn not only for colour but also for the many special mornings after a cold night when the sun strikes the lake and creates this mist. It only lasts for 20 to 30 minutes typically but it is glorious each time. Although I converted this to a sepia tone the original was almost a natural sepia and I would have liked to have left it a colour photo but there were a couple of small distractions of colour that needed to disappear and since it was true to the original, sepia seemed like the best solution.
I rarely refer folks to other work but I can't resist pointing out this link ... if you have the time I highly recommend viewing this piece of stop animation ... for those of us who love light (all of us I assume:) it's brilliant!
India
During my trip to India I got chance to visit few places for birding. With my friend Anupam Dash I visited Bhitarkanika (Only place in India where you can find all seven species of kingfishers) Mangroves for kingfishers and Manglajodi wetland for mostly waders and waterfowls. Both these locations are vast and home ground for Anupam. He has been working at thease both locations from decades. He has trained his team member as boat operators and they work with him seamlessly to put the boat at right place and angle to get perfect position for shot as he directs. He is amazing to know the active spots in that vast area at particular time and season. His team takes very little time to reach to place where action is going on considering huge area to cover. Although I was little late in season, he was able to find good number of species for me. If you are visiting any place in India or those places for bird photography, I highly recommend joining Anupam. A big thanks my friend. Here is Bluethroat we photographed at Manglajodi.
