Les plus petits représentants de la famille des picidés, les picumnes sont en fait des pics miniatures. On les repère plus souvent qu'autrement par les "tap-tap" faibles qu'ils laissent entendre quand ils frappent légèrement la surface du bois à la recherche de nourriture.

The smallest representatives of the picidae family, the piculets are actually miniature woodpeckers. They are most often spotted by the faint "tap-tap" sounds they make when they lightly tap the surface of the wood in search of food.

Le château de Chenonceau a inauguré en juin 2018, un jardin, clos, contemporain, et directement inspiré par les croquis de Russell Page, l’un des plus grands paysagistes contemporains.
C’est dans un très beau jardin clos, ancienne aire de jeux pour enfants, que les plans et croquis réalisés par Russell Page pour la famille Menier vont prendre vie.
Pour aller vers le « Jardin idéal » d’après Russell Page, Nicholas Tomlan, directeur botanique du château, s’est inspiré de lectures, recherches et visites de jardins créés par Russell Page, notamment en Normandie.

In June 2018, the Château de Chenonceau inaugurated a contemporary, walled garden directly inspired by the sketches of Russell Page, one of the greatest contemporary landscape architects.
It is in this beautiful walled garden, formerly a children's playground, that the plans and sketches created by Russell Page for the Menier family will come to life.
To achieve Russell Page's "Ideal Garden," Nicholas Tomlan, the château's botanical director, drew inspiration from reading, research, and visits to gardens designed by Page, particularly in Normandy.

I got the visit of this male Fiery Skimmer this morning. As it sat on top of the hedge, it started doing some exercise. Coming home, I did some research with the following results :
A dragonfly can turn its head independently of its body through nearly 360 degrees. This high degree of mobility, combined with its massive compound eyes that take up most of its head, gives it an almost full field of vision.
The flexible neck joint allows the dragonfly to:
- Track prey effectively during high-speed chases by counter-rotating its head as its body spins, keeping its target in focus.
- Maintain balance during complex aerial maneuvers by pivoting its head to stay horizontal in response to sudden changes in pitch, roll, and yaw.
- Scan its surroundings while perched without needing to move its entire body.
This incredible head mobility is essential for the dragonfly's success as one of the most efficient aerial predators in the insect world. /
J'ai eu la visite de ce male Fiery Skimmer ce matin. Installe au sommet de la haie de cloture, il a commence a faire quelques exercices avec sa tete, ce qui m'a conduite a faire quelques recherches :
Une libellule peut tourner sa tête presque entièrement, jusqu'à 360 degrés, grâce à une articulation flexible entre sa tête et son corps, ce qui lui donne un champ de vision presque complet pour chasser ses proies et éviter les dangers, comme le montrent les sources. Cette rotation exceptionnelle, combinée à sa vision à 360 degrés, en fait des chasseuses aériennes incroyablement agiles.
- Rotation complète : Elle peut pivoter sa tête sur tout un cercle, permettant à ses yeux composés géants de balayer presque toutes les directions sans bouger son corps.
- Adaptation pour la chasse : Cette capacité est cruciale pour repérer et suivre ses proies en plein vol, car elle peut ainsi garder l'image de sa cible fixe dans sa vision pendant que son corps tourne.
- Mouvements spectaculaires : En plus de tourner la tête, les libellules peuvent voler en avant, en arrière, faire du surplace et même faire un demi-tour en un seul battement d'ailes, démontrant leur maîtrise aérienne.

Recherche Bay, an embayment of the Tasman Sea in the extreme south-eastern corner of Tasmania, Australia. This is as far south as you can drive in Tasmania. The place is named after the Recherche, a ship of the French Navy that took part in an expedition exploring the Australian coast in 1792.

On the South Cape Bay trail between Recherche Bay and South Cape Bay in the extreme south-eastern corner of Tasmania, Australia. In the flat heathland sections, the trail is boarded to avoid wet feet and damage to the environment.

Au détour d'une rue de Ljublyana, j'ai vu cette dame dont les veines saillantes m'ont attiré le regard, elle cherchait certainement son chemin comme tout bon touriste ...

Abandoned Mension "Asia", Italy
After long research, I finally managed to visit this abandoned villa gem last summer. it is a 3-story building, probably built in the early 19th century. The house has a large garden, unusual for the many bamboo plants planted along the high wall that surrounds the property. The villa has a variety of rooms and an exceptionally beautifully decorated ballroom. Most of the rooms are beautifully frescoed, many in a classical style, although some rooms stand out from the rest with frescoes in an Asian or mixed Asian/Classical style.

Nach langer Recherche habe ich es letzten Sommer endlich geschafft, dieses verlassene Villenjuwel zu besuchen. Es ist ein 3-stöckiges Gebäude, das wahrscheinlich im frühen 19. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde. Das Haus hat einen großen Garten, ungewöhnlich für die vielen Bambuspflanzen, die entlang der hohen Mauer gepflanzt wurden, die das Grundstück umgibt. Die Villa verfügt über verschiedene Zimmer und einen außergewöhnlich schön dekorierten Ballsaal. Die meisten Zimmer sind wunderschön mit Fresken geschmückt, viele davon im klassischen Stil, obwohl sich einige Zimmer mit Fresken im asiatischen oder gemischt asiatisch/klassischen Stil vom Rest abheben.

Travel as far south as the road goes and you will reach Recherche Bay, along with Cockle Creek. Colonial history included some attempts at mining and timber felling and whaling. Now protected, nature has restored its beauty and it can now be enjoyed by all who travel to the end of the road.
