I'm constantly asked "How do you keep her so white ?" Usually, Marnie stays so white it's almost blinding. NOT now spring is here, she's rebellious and will roll and rub herself anywhere she fancies. I don't mind at all....I like her to be happy. Hope you like her too, with those dirty marks each side of her neck !

Un cuento:
Nació con la primera luz de la madrugada. Al examinarla con cuidado se dieron cuenta de que era frágil como el cristal. Sus cuidadores pusieron la mayor diligencia y la rodearon de mimos: acolchonaron las esquinas, cambiaron escaleras por rampas y prohibieron los juegos peligrosos. A pesar del cuidado, ella creció con un temperamento impulsivo, decidido y rebelde.
Cuando los años se empezaron a contar en abriles, se enamoró, con ese amor adolescente, ingenuo, irracional y muchas veces injustificado. El destinatario de su amor era de hojalata, proclive a la cobardía y la mentira, con una dureza irrompible, la del egoismo, asi que, fue ella la que se empezó a romper. Su risa y su espíritu se volvieron tan frágiles como su cuerpo.
Se sucedieron los años y también nuevas decepciones. Fue perdiendo la luz y ganando fragilidad, no era débil, era frágil, frágil por dentro y frágil por fuera. Se fue aislando del mundo, de los golpes. Su espíritu rebelde y terco, poco permeable al desánimo fue perdiendo ímpetu, cada vez más encogida, reservada y apagada hasta que un día desapareció, se fragmentó en tantos pedacitos que fue imposible encontrarla.
Llegados a este punto, aún no le hemos puesto nombre, se llamaba Esperanza y seguro que tú conoces a alguien como ella, cuídala, es frágil, sonríele, y no dejes que se acerque a los corazones de hojalata por que la harán añicos.

She was born with the light of dawn. Examining it carefully they realized that it was fragile like glass. Her caretakers did their best and surrounded her with all kinds of care: they cushioned the corners, changed stairs for ramps and prohibited dangerous games. Despite the care, she grew up with an impulsive, determined and rebellious temperament.
When the years began to be counted in April, he fell in love with that adolescent love, naive, irrational and often unjustified. In front of my window, looking at others, looking at the world and how it continues on its way. I see people walking, children playing, and couples holding hands.
I slightly feel a tear fall down my cheek, how rebellious.
My heart leaps, remembering what I once thought I had. Those moments that I thought were real and lasting are now gone.
Now I am tired, worn and my heart fearful, still recovering from the battle.
Still I can see the sun, I know this is momentary, the time, patience and love that I am receiving makes me think that I do not deserve it but maybe I need it.

Did you know that Yellowstone National Park is actually an active supervolcano? As you walk around the park you may think: “I don’t see any volcanos?!” That’s because much of the entire park is a volcano – and the bubbling geysers and hot springs are an indication of the churning activity below the surface.

The term “supervolcano” implies an eruption of magnitude 8 on the Volcano Explosivity Index, indicating an eruption of more than 1,000 cubic kilometers (250 cubic miles) of magma. Yellowstone has had at least three such eruptions: The three eruptions, 2.1 million years ago, 1.2 million years ago and 640,000 years ago, were about 6,000, 700 and 2,500 times larger than the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens in Washington State.
The last time the Yellowstone supervolcano erupted was 640,000+ years ago. The Yellowstone eruption area collapsed upon itself, creating a sunken giant crater or caldera 1,500 square miles in area. The magmatic heat powering that eruption (and two others, dating back 2.1 million years) still powers the park’s famous geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, and mud pots.Should this supervolcano erupt again the end result would likely be catastrophic to much of the United States and the world.
My mothers dad died when I was in my early 20s. We didn't see much of him when we were growing up for family reasons. He moved closer to us in his late life, just as I was becoming a rebellious teenager who was more interested in her own friends. He was a very handsome man with a wicked sense of humour. I wish I had been able to know him when I was an adult.
My family found this photo in an old pile of my mothers possessions after she died and gave it to me. I cried.

From my rebellious youth: The Who - Magic Bus.
Inside a tower of the fort of Frangokastello in Crete (Greece).
The castle was built by the Venetians in 1371-74 as a garrison to impose order on the rebellious Sfakia region, to deter pirates, and to protect Venetian nobles and their properties. The Venetians named it the Castle of St. Nikitas after the nearby church. The locals, however, who never saw it in a positive light, contemptuously dubbed it Frangokastello, meaning the Castle of the Franks (i.e. Catholic foreigners), Castelfranco or Franco Castello.
On 17 May 1828 a celebrated battle was fought at Frangokastello. Hundreds of Sfakiots and Epirotes led by Hatzimichalis Dalianis, a Greek patriot from Epirus attempting to spread the Greek War of Independence from the mainland to Crete, occupied the castle, but were besieged by the Turks and massacred. However, many of the Turks were then themselves killed by rebel ambushes launched from the local gorges. According to tradition, around the anniversary of the battle each May, shadows of the armed Cretan and Epirote soldiers who lost their lives there seem to march towards the fortress around dawn. These are called Drosoulites (Greek: Δροσουλίτες), or dew-men, and have been explained as a meteorological phenomenon (from Wikipedia).

Ursprünglich wurde das Kastell nach dem Heiligen Nikitas benannt, wie auch die 350 Meter östlich der Festung gelegene Kirche Agios Nikitas diesem Heiligen geweiht ist. Schon bald wurde bei den einheimischen Griechen jedoch der Name „Frankenkastell“ gebräuchlich, nach der im Mittelalter im östlichen Mittelmeer üblichen Allgemeinbezeichnung der Westeuropäer, einschließlich der Venezianer, als „Franken“ (frangi).
Im Mai 1828 war Frangokastello Schauplatz eines Kampfes zwischen aufständischen Griechen unter ihrem Anführer Chatzimichalis Dalianis und osmanischen Soldaten. Der aus Epirus stammende Dalianis versuchte den griechischen Unabhängigkeitskampf vom Festland nach Kreta zu übertragen. Mai verloren die Osmanen weitere 1000 Mann durch Hinterhalte der Sfakioten.Nach lokaler Überlieferung kehren in der Zeit um den Jahrestag der Schlacht, im Morgengrauen, die Schatten der im Kastell getöteter Kreter zum Ort des Ereignisses zurück. Sie werden Drosoulites genannt („Tau-Schatten“) und können eventuell als spezielles meteorologisches Phänomen erklärt werden, das vorzugsweise im späten Frühling, von Ende Mai bis Anfang Juni, in der Ebene von Frangokastello auftritt (aus Wikipedia).

Somehow this scene reminded me of George Orwell's 1984. There's something somewhat totalitarian about it I guess. Maybe it's just me though.
Thankfully we don't have Thought Police yet, but we do have Thought-Behavior Directors. We mostly know it by the name TV nowadays! It always tries to "tell" us and "guide" us to what we should like and what not, in essence, what we should think and how we should feel, how we should act and react in (their idea of) a "proper" manner for anything and everything, although it will not admit of doing so. It gives us its directive of what we should consider the norm and what not. Yet it takes advantage of being in our homes, bringing thousands of strangers inside each day, whatever that means to each one of us. Of course there are someoneS behind it, controlling that as well...
Ohhh well, I'll keep on being rebellious and guilty of being thought criminal by self-questioning me, trying to think and feel for myself as much as I can and daring to fall in love with life and people that love me, each and every day...

Sometimes you just want to see where things go, what lies at the end of the road or up that alley, over the mountain around that bend and sometimes you just want to capture that thought. Some of my most favorite scenes while traveling though maybe not my most popular come from the absolute opposite direction that everyone else is looking.
Speaking of opposite directions during WWII the town was vocally anti-fascist making it a target for Mussolini’s death squads resulting in the assassination of its Mayor but the citizens were undeterred and continued their protests of Fascism and civil disobedience until the end of the war. After the fall of Fascism in Aug 1945 the townspeople began to exile the landowners tied to the failed regime and repatriate all lands seized by Mussolini’s operations
Ferrandina has lived through many occupations over the millennia and tolerated them only as far as justice was observed, finding its rebellious soul awakened when necessary if oppression reared its ugly head. Most of the time the city is a sleepy beautiful place perched above the Basimento river valley its small white houses nestled together in cozy peaceful scene just don’t wake the dragon.

Ghent or Gent whichever way you spell it is the true hidden gem of a city within Belgium a little gritty, a little rebellious with a whole lot of beautiful thrown in, totally unafraid to go its own way and my favorite place in Belgium. This scene is of my favorite place to have a beer in the city, Het Waterhuis a brown pub on the Groentenmarkt an old brothel turned Bierhuis that serves over 160 beers in a style so popular it recently consumed the restaurant beside it. Some places you visit fit your soul like an intricate key in a lock and for me this was Ghent, walking around the city felt like a return home to a place you have never been, everything familiar and unfamiliar all at once but never to be forgotten.

У неділю, 29 травня 2022 року, в Україні відзначають День Києва. Києву 1540 років!
Вперше відзначили 1982 року, коли виповнилося 1500 років від умовної дати заснування міста. Тоді під егідою ЮНЕСКО було проведено низку святкових заходів, серед яких були театральні постановки та відкриття пам'ятників та реконструйованих будівель. Святкувати цей день в Україні щороку почали із 1987 року.
За офіційною версією на відзначення 1500- літнього ювілею Києва надихнули виявленні у вірменському сховищі стародавніх рукописів Матенадарані джерела про згадку нашого міста датовану ще V сторіччям нашої ери.
Варто зазначити, що у цьому питанні масла у вогонь активно додавала також і Москва, яка відсвяткувавши у 1947 році своє 800-ліття, не могла змиритися, що Київ виглядатиме старшим, зруйнувавши тим самим радянський міф про «старшого брата».
Однак, остаточну згоду на святкування вдалося одержати після телефонного дзвінка Володимира Щербицького, тодішнього очільника УРСР, до Леоніда Брежнєва, який особисто дав згоду на святкування саме 1500-річчя, хоча і цю цифру деякі вчені часто вважають завищеною.

Port Arthur was named after George Arthur, the lieutenant governor of Van Diemen's Land. The settlement started as a timber station in 1830, but it is best known for being a penal colony.
From 1833 until 1853, it was the destination for the hardest of convicted British criminals, those who were secondary offenders having reoffended after their arrival in Australia. Rebellious personalities from other convict stations were also sent there. In addition, Port Arthur had some of the strictest security measures of the British penal system.
