The main structure was completed in 1846. In 1847, the church was designated the cathedral of Bytown and Joseph-Bruno Guigues was appointed the first bishop. He is honoured with a lifesize statue at the southwest corner of the cathedral grounds. In 1859, Father Damase Dandurand, OMI, designed the two Gothic spires which were added to the west front in 1866. Earlier, in 1849-50, he designed the Archbishop's Palace and in 1862-63, added the choir loft. In 1879, Pope Leo XIII designated the cathedral as a minor basilica.208

Mt Lemmon Scenic Byway is the only paved road that leads to the upper reaches of Mt. Lemmon and the Santa Catalina Range. It is one of the most scenic drives in southeast Arizona. It provides access to a fascinating land of great vistas, outlandish rockscapes, cool mountain forests and deep canyons spilling out onto broad deserts. Because the road starts in the Lower Sonoran vegetative life zone and climbs to the high forests of the Canadian zone, it offers the biological equivalent of driving from the deserts of Mexico to the forests of Canada in a short stretch of 27 miles. Here you'll find plants and animals and geology that exhibit some of the most wide-ranging natural diversity to be found in any area of comparable size in the continental United States.

As you drive up the mountain, every turn seems to reveal something new. In some places that may be a community of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers different from the one just around the previous curve. In others, it may be a new gallery of natural rock sculptures even more impossibly perched than the last, or a broader panorama that stretches in an entirely different direction than the one that caused you to stop and snap a photo just a few moments before.

The Endicott Visitor Center combines an historical museum, a gift shop, Community Meeting Hall and Banquet Facility. The Visitor Center, once popularly referred to as “Old Colonial Hall” was restored in the late 1990’s. The cooperative efforts of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and the Historic Preservation, the New York State Heritage Area program, local donations, money raised by the United Service Clubs of Broome County and an enormous community volunteer effort made the renovations possible.

The graceful mansion now houses exhibits that reflect the origins of Harpur College, the corporate leadership of the Endicott Johnson Shoe Company, IBM and the strong influence the college and industries had on the development of Endicott, Johnson City and Binghamton.

A great weekend was had at Inverloch, Victoria Australia and to add a bonus to the trip we were advised that we may be able to shoot the Southern Lights with the Eagles Nest in the foreground. This was the result.
