This is actually the first shot from my RealitySoSubtle pinhole camera. I had my framing done incorrectly capturing my shadow instead of the entire Mission church. I had to crop out the space to the left to make this look like a 6x6 square format. I kind of like the result though despite all the misgivings. In fact my vision has turned into something else I didn't expect. That 's so cool about analog photography.

A Pinhole project between July and December 2019. I have stayed in hotels once or twice a week, most Months, for 30 years and in December it comes to an end.
I am attempting to show visually how I feel about this, absent from my family, frustrated, often bored.
The pinhole camera and the way it captures time is a perfect vehicle.

A nice sunrise that also happened to be on Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. What few folks were out at the early hour were quickly erased from existence by the longer shutter speeds.

Another image from our northern Michigan trip two years ago. When I was researching potential photo locations for this trip I kept coming across images of this massive concrete structure in Marquette. I wasn’t sure what it was and had never seen anything like it before. We planned to stop there on our tip and wondered if we would have trouble finding this structure. Well, it was definitely not hard to locate. You can see it from a few miles away as you drive in. We arrived a little before the start of golden hour and started making images of this huge structure. We found out from talking to a local that it is an abandoned ore dock. There used to be rail line that ran right on top of the structure. Ships could dock on each side and iron ore was dumped from the trains on top of the dock down shoot into the ships. This one sits in Marquette’s south harbor. There is a fully functioning dock in the north harbor.

The Procuratie (English: Procuracies) are three connected buildings along the perimeter of Saint Mark's Square in Venice, Italy. Two of the buildings, the Procuratie Vecchie (Old Procuracies) and the Procuratie Nuove (New Procuracies), were constructed by the procurators of Saint Mark, the second-highest dignitaries in the government of the Republic of Venice, who were charged with administering the treasury of the Church of Saint Mark as well as the financial affairs of state wards and trust funds established on behalf of religious and charitable institutions.
The Procuratie Vecchie on the northern side of the square was built during the War of the League of Cambrai in the early sixteenth century to replace an earlier structure, damaged by fire. Although the war imposed financial constraints and limited innovation, it was nevertheless the first major public building in Venice to be erected in a purely classical style. It always contained apartments that were rented by the procurators as a source of revenue to finance building projects and repairs. Rental income was significant, given the prestige of the location. But the apartments were eventually sold to raise immediate money for the government, and several of them were subsequently transformed into clubhouses.

I’m going to switch gears a little too black and white for a couple of images. The very wide angle of the RRS 6x6 can have an interesting affect on a scene. It can reduce or minimize something that is large and make the overall scene feel vast. I was really drawn to the patterns in the sand when making this images and their relationship to the cloud patterns in the sky.

The color version of the previous post. I actually re-scanned the negative using Epson's color correction settings, which yielded a better starting point than either Photoshop's Auto Color or my own attempts in the Color Balance window.

"Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known."

We considered renting ice skates to do a bit of skating on the Rockefeller Ice Rink during our visit, but when we stopped by the rink was temporarily closed. So we made pinhole photos instead. So often I underestimate how wide the Reality So Subtle 6x6 is and get more in the frame than I really intended. In the Rockefeller Tower I finally found something taller than the camera's field of view is wide.
