The "reactable" is a wonderful example of proof for that famous quote by Arthur C. Clarke, that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Although it was already invented in 2005, this is the first time that I recall seeing the "reactable experience" at 'Messe.
In essence, the reactable is a synthesizer, but it is implemented as a table with a touchscreen and a set of acrylic blocks, which represent synthesizer modules like oscillators, filters, amps, and modulators, but can also "contain" loops, samples, and sequences. As soon as you place one of these blocks on the reactable, it is linked to other blocks on the device's surface, creating audio or control connections.
To set a block's parameters, you rotate the block or move graphics elements that are displayed on the surface next to the block. For added feedback, animated elements move along the connections, showing a modulator's pulse, a sample's waveform, etc.
The official reactable website has a wealth of information on the history, technology, and technique of this instrument, but to get a real feel for just how magical this music machine works, you should watch this YouTube playlist (search for more reactable videos on Vimeo, on YouTube).

1987. This is probably the first appearance of the phrase "Graphic Violence" in our circle in the context that it was later used for the skate and graffiti zines of the same name. (I'm going though my old black books for my site- these first two are just a teaser.)

It’s a chance for them to explore and develop the way they make work. Using the illustrated children’s book THE RED TREE by Shaun Tan as inspiration, the focus of this REACT is to create an age specific piece for children aged 10 and under. #RXREACT

On September 13th, 2001, New Yorkers, still in shock, are trying to come to grips with their emotions in New York Reacts. Grief, fear, anger, courage, strength, and sympathy can be heard throughout the city two days after the tragedy of September 11th.

Colourfilled World
Colour defines our world. Orange is orange and it defines orangeness. We can choose to react to colour so as to identify what we see. We should not be defined by colour as we are human sharing many of the same colours in many deeper senses and understandings. Unfortunately for my pictorial example my orange in the picture is Orange in colour and Clementine in nature. Colour is initially seen and often it is not the indicator we could presume it is. Well I am off to enjoy the colour orange and all colours that meet eyes today and every day and I am going to enjoy drinking Clementine Juice whilst I read some informative pages.

The world we live in has some strange ideas about colour. Maybe one day we will not judge by colour and we will not suspect that colour is a disguise used against us. Meanwhile I await more glorious colour contact and I hope that others might see beautiful bright brilliance wherever they look.
