Due to their quantity, I only spot commercial or parrot plates when they're attached mostly to save taxes. Although you could legitimately use an X3 for a semi-commercial purpose, the vehicle is definitely meant for a non-commercial usage. It's also nice to spot these plates without EU-bands.

5407 re-attached to train at Mallaig. This livery variant really suited the 'Black 5' in my opinion. A 35mm wide shot in the rather restricted area.

On the feast of the Finding of the True Cross on May 3rd, the cross on top of the facade of St. John Cantius Church was solemnly blessed and re-attached to the top of the church pediment.

After years of standing against the elements, the cross was in need of restoration. Days earlier, the cross was taken down and re-gilded in time to be blessed and re-attached on May 3rd.

From the solemn blessing of the Cross: "Here on the cross may the splendor of your only-begotten Son, our Lord, sparkle in the gold of your glance; may our redemption from death, the purification of our life, be reflected in the effulgent crystal of the cross."

Inside the shed Great Western Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall is slowly coming together. Its smokebox door lies ready to be re-attached when work on the new smokebox barrel is complete.

BR shed code 81A was Old Oak Common.

It's quite a scene to see a giant, crumbling brewery complex in essentially the middle of a residential neighborhood. In this shot you can see the black scars from a fire in 2009 that did a bit of damage to the complex.

In October 2023 demolition began on the southern part of the complex due to structural issues. Part of the demolition plan was to save the two towers, place them in the building's courtyard for refurbishing, and re-attach them to the remaining structure. By November 2024 demolition was essentially completed, with the north portion saved for potential development for affordable housing.

Shedded skin of a spider. Amazing to see the eyes (on the right). Looks like they're attached by a thread. Hope this isn't making you feel sick! Actually, those are probably not the eyes, but the front pincer things - the mouth.

So, it crawls out through the top of its head/body. Eek! A hole for each leg! Suppose that's obvious really. I bet this would interest people who design mouldings! The body is maybe 4mm across - pretty small.

This has been on the carpet outside my bathroom for a week or two. Thought it was worth a closer look! Very brittle. It lost two legs just in me moving it onto a piece of paper.

I used a diffused remote flash to light this, plus some white paper, above and to the side, to bounce the flash around a bit.

Jaina Lefevre curls her fingers and 'pets' Randulf, then steps back and touches his knee. "Youse promised. In church. You can't breaks that promise or God'll eat you faster'n Rivers frog. Right?"

Lukash Hallard: "yes ma'am" he'd say to Chan, eye still focused on Rand "won't do it again I promise" he'd lie, Luk and his tongue weren't very good friends and all

River Grau didn't know how to comfort people. All anyone did to him was ruffle his hair, so he tries to do that to Randulf. Ruffle.

Erika Eichel walks to altar and stands still as she looks intense at the icon.

Channel Liberty nods in response to Luk's promise, then moves a little closer, giving the UAC soldier only a passing glance. UAC couldn't hurt anyone in church, right? so she was safe here. She moved up between River and Jaina, peering cautiously at the kneeling Canine, "how come he's sad? did conor run away from him before like he ranned a way from me?"

Aranea Cullen: His ears flick slightly at the scratching and ruffling of his hair. He gives a half hearted chuckle as the kids try and cheer him up, lightening his mood enough to spy the hand offered from Luk. Slowly the massive black mitt would raise and take the hand to raise him to his feet. His shoulders bowed in defeat he would peer down at the girl, his voice changing to a smooth baritone... Janus speaking behind the mask. "I gave my word I would harm none that stand on church grounds, young one."

Fern Sabre watched the tender scene unfold, the children trying to comfort Rand. She got a little misty eyed herself, wiped her eyes before anyone noticed.

Jaina Lefevre lifts her chin, pinning him on this. "Well, God made everythin' so's EVERYWHERE is church grounds."

River Grau nodded to Chan, "Uh-huh. He runs 'way lots and makes people sad like he runed away from you." He still held out his froggie sculpture to Randulf.

Channel Liberty nods agreement with Jaina, crossing her arms defiantly, "She's right, God made ever thin'! "

Lukash Hallard hands Rand his sword back, it had a somewhat perfect balance it it looked deadly even to the touch "there ye go bub" Luk steps closer to Rand and patted his shoulder twice "dun worry bout it...I'mma talk sum sense into that kid" Luk looked at Fern right after and nodded to the door "Laz's waiting on us at the shed toots...ye commin'?"

Channel Liberty frowns at River, "why he gotsa aways run? wot kinna sojurs run away?? how can he fight enythin' if he's runnin' from it?"

Bianca Bender focuses then on Luk, blinking...watching him as he goes past..."Sup Luk."

Fern Sabre nods "yah coming" she wiped her eyes again

Aranea Cullen: He would bow his head to the offered froggie sculpture, taking it slowly from the boy. "This is well made. Thank you River." He would glance to the girl, ready to respond back to her, when Penumbra was returned to him. He nods respectfully to Luk, and moves to re attach Penumbra. The oldfashioned ancient looking english knight's sword returned to his hip.

Lukash Hallard offers Bianca a warm smile on his way out "BB" he'd say in a low tone, greeting

Bianca Bender smiles and pulls her phone out sending a text...typing semi onehanded.

River Grau shrugged a bit at Chan, "Oh, 'cause he's a bad one. An' he's always thinkin' he's better than everyone else, tellin' me what to do like he's some stupid 'dult.." He snapped his mouth shut, so not to say more mean things. "Welcome Mister Randulf. You can throw out the drawin', it was mean an' talked 'bout chokes."

Jaina Lefevre watches the sword get re-attached, and looks up at the man, then lashes out at River. 'Conors is ones of us! You don't talk means about him! He's not bad!"

Channel Liberty blinks and frowns yet again, looking from River to the Soldier and back, "wossa 'chokes'"?

Bianca Bender turns and trails out of the church typing as she goes.

Channel Liberty tilts her head sideways to Jaina, "yus he is! he woz 'poseda merry me! but then he cheatered an' wen' affer mizz Guin!'

River Grau 's ears flatten as Jaina yells at him, snapping back. "Not bad, but dun' mean he's nice! lways sayin' what I do ain't right. And Miss Saki yelled at me cause HE was bein' mean to her like it was my fault. Ain't my fault those stupid papers lied an' I was just tryin' to be nice to her 'cause she is sick."

Aranea Cullen: He would glance to the trio, from one to the other before resting upon the girl that had shown him kindness. "I gave the vow to Eamon, so it is his territory.. His churchs grounds. Not everywhere, young one."

Jaina Lefevre makes a face at Chan. "Youse is too /short/ t'get married." She looks up at Randulf. "You said no hurting on church growns. You can't hurt Conors or me or Rivers or Chan /anywheres/. Promise."

Channel Liberty blinks, taken aback, "NUH UHH!! ah'm taller'n you! b'sides...ah'll get even MORE taller!!"

River Grau blinks at Jaina, "We're Mister Randulf's friends. he ain't gonna hurt us. That's unfriendly."

Erika Eichel turns and tilts her head back to watch the celling onf the church. She raises to the tip of her combat boots as she keeps looking up there.

Channel Liberty shrinks back a step, "he looks rilly scary t' be friends "

Jaina Lefevre just looks at River, then back up to Randulf. "That's not what he said. He's got a sword. Knights have oafs and they hasta follow them. If he makes an oaf, then it's okay. If he doan, then we gots ta be 'fraid again."

Aranea Cullen: His head bounces from one child to the other, tilting his head at each, trying to keep track of their conversation but finding himself a little... for once... lost. His crimson mask falls once more upon the seemingly ringleader,... the girl of kindness who strikingly had a way with words. "If I am not harmed by any of you, then I will not seek harm be done upon you. Will that suffice young one. As you lot may grow up and indeed cause me harm, that I would unfairly be unable to defend myself."

Jaina Lefevre looks up at him as he speaks and tips her head as if taking it into consideration. "When we's growed up. Not when we's kids. Kids is dumb sometimes, like Conors. But he's smart. He taught me stuff 'bout this city and kept me safe until I got a Mommy. So, no hurt us, as an oaf, even if we do dumb stuff as kids. When we is growed up, that's different. Promise?"

River Grau shrugs at Jaina, "I'm not 'fraid of him an' he ain't ever gave me any of them oaths." Sighing he then looked to Randulf, "Dun' worry, she wets herself and sings when she's scared. She ain't ever gonna be able to cause you harm... What yah talkin' bout when we grow up Jaina?"

Channel Liberty scowls and growls "ah'm not dumb! boys 'r dumb lotsa times...not girls!"

River Grau scowls at Chan, "I ain't dumb! Least I dun' kiss lotsa people an' get cooties all the time like you do."

Channel Liberty shrieks back 'AH DON' GOTS COOTIES!!! 'LANI SAID SO!!"

River Grau can't help but burst out laughing at Chan's reaction. "Oh, you ain't callin' her Momma nooow?"

Jaina Lefevre ignores the other two, eyes locked on Randulf. She knows this is important.

River Grau trusted Randulf so cared little about oaths. Words could easily be broken.

Channel Liberty blinks, 'Ahuh!! she's mah Mumma!! jus' like Dani an' Nanna 'r mah mumma!! an' MUMMA 'Lani said " ah don't gots cooties!!"

Channel Liberty: an' AH learnet ALL 'bout this city by mahself!!! Conor's not so smart as he think he is!"

Jelly Tremor was still curiously feeling carpet under her sticky bare feet, but she looked up at Dani's name. So that was a relation. Better than nothing. Obsidian pearls staring at the group. Only emitting a gentle hiss from her respirator. Eyeing each cub. Then up to the Tall man. Small tail flicking curiously. Almost planning something her mother would be proud of.

Aranea Cullen: "your intelligence intrigues me young one. You are wise beyond your years, " His head would slowly rotate back and forth on his neck like a vulture surveying and studying her. "an old soul perhaps?" His head would quirk before he would square his shoulders to her, much like he would an adversary or someone of equal stature. He would give a slow respectful nod. "Very well. I vow that untill yourself, River, Chan and Conor are 18 years of age, I will not seek to do harm upon any of you. However, upon your 18th birthdays, if you seek me harm, harm me and the like, I am free to defend myself to the full extent of what I believe is necessary of whatever circumstance arrises."

Channel Liberty feels a crawlly shimmer slide up her spine and turns, noticing the girl at the head of the aisle by herself, reflexively she backs sideways and clings to River's backpack, her hand grasping the pack's pink tongue as she stares back at the strange girl,

River Grau 's eyes narrowed at Chan's exclaimation, "You're just greedy an' you got three Momma's. Ain't supposed to have three Mommas, 'cause it ain't nice to the people who got no Mommas." There was a tinge of jealousy in his voice. He looked over at Randulf, "She just don't know that 'dults lie. I dun' care 'bout your oath, no offense, 'cause they easily be broken. An' if somebody does somethin' really mean, sometimes they deserve to be hit. Evven if they are a lil' kid."

Jaina Lefevre nods in partial satisfaction and then puts her hand very carefully on his and then tries to guide it to the sword. "On th'sword swear, and I heared it, so it's true. You breaks the oaf and the sword doan work rights no more."

Channel Liberty murmurs quietly, suddenly timid as she continues to stare at the dark girl, "ah'm never ever turnin' eighteen, ever....an' ..an'..enyone can has 3 mummas if they wanna...

Jelly Tremor's hand rose with the look. Wiggling her glossy. Slimey finger to the girl. Black orbs smiling in her direction. Trying to be as friendly as she possibly could. Staying back for now. Taking in each word from any of them.

Aranea Cullen: He would hesitate from the touch but as he was one of the rare individuals that tried like hell to keep his vows. He allowed his hand to fall upon Penumbra. "I vow that untill yourself, River, Chan and Conor are 18 years of age, I will not seek to do harm upon any of you. However, upon your 18th birthdays, if you seek me harm, harm me and the like, I am free to defend myself to the full extent of what I believe is necessary of whatever circumstance arrises. Upon Penumbra no longer being at my side if i break this oath, I so swear it. " He would then turn to glance down at River slowly. "Not always River... not always."

Jaina Lefevre whispers. "I 'cept that oaf. Thank you, Mister Randulf. And...my name's Jaina. Jaina Shah-ron (Charron)."

River Grau looked over his shoulder at the child standing farther down the church. He hadn't seen her before and gave a friendly wave before his attention turned back tot he other three. "..what if we are 17 an' 351 days old an' are big an' try to hurt you? An' that laugh or somethin'? 'Cause we are evil an' mean. Then what does your oath say? Words ain't mean a thing."

River Grau also added, "Plus me an' jaina ain't know how old we are..."

Channel Liberty slowly returns the wave with her free hand shuddering slightly, The gesture is suddenly interrupted as Chan jumps nearly out her clothes, with a shrill yelp as she swats her her hip franticly, then grabs the quietly vibrating cell phone and yanks it out of it's pouch, glaring at it as she pants and wheezes as she tries to regain her self control

Jaina Lefevre looks over at River. "I'm five. The doctor said so." She giggles a little at Chan and then looks back at RIver. "Sometimes..words is very 'portant. And kids lie too. You said you wouldn't make fun of me when I was scared no mores. And you done it twice already."

Jelly Tremor stepped closer to the group. Thick translucent treacle Left behind from her footprints. Letting out a hissing giggle at Chan's reaction. "Jumpy thar?", she quiet tone escaped the filters of her mask. Still staying back a little more. Glossy tail wagging behind her small frame.

Aranea Cullen: "Then I would submit to the tortures." He replies simply in reply to River's question, then glances between the children around him, he has yet to take notice of the strange one a bit yonder until she speaks. His head would slowly erode upwards to the new commer. "Evening."

Channel Liberty shakes her head as she tries to work the text reply, "ah..ah'm not jumpy!! this 'tupid phone keeps scarin' me when it hums!"

River Grau never did say that he always told the truth. In fact, he constantly lied but wouldn't be admiting it here. "Fine, then I promise if anyone of us you made the oaths to tries an' hurts you because you can't hurt back an' they are big enough too.. that I'm gonna go an' try an' make 'em stop. I'll make my own stupid oath thingie. 'Cause sayin' stuff like that an' followin' through with it can getcha in trouble."

Channel Liberty growls and shoves the phone back into her pocket, frustrated with her inability to use the phone's texting system, "ah gotsa go!" she growls softly, trying to cover her embarrassment, "mah unka's mad coz ah'm out too late 'gain"

Jelly Tremor's eyes turn up to the adult with eyes as black as the void. "Hiya thar.", she offered before attention went back to Chan. "Why no set it ta ring? Dunno how ta use it?", her hand rose to use a little slime to move her bangs away from her eyes. Moving ever closer with the sticky trail in her wake.

Channel Liberty turns back to the dark girl, snapping, "ah know how t' use it! ah jus' don' wanna!! ah don' like noisy things in mah pockets!"

Aranea Cullen: His hand would slowly raise to try and ruffle River's hair before he'd make a careful study of the new commer. "Thank you River. "

Jaina Lefevre turns to look at the new girl and blinks, then offers a wave. She looks up at Randulf again and nods. "Bye mister." then starts for the door. "Nanny's gonna get us losted. I know it."

Aranea Cullen: He would begin to turn slowly to go retrieve his armour and weapons from where he flung them.

Channel Liberty turns to the Canine, looking up to him with the same kind of expression her grandmother, Angela would have for any of the non-pack, "an' ah promise ah don' hurcha's too, Coz ...coz...ah promise ah won't do it

River Grau turns around and watches the girl curiously, his eyes trailing to the slimey substance coming from her feet. He calls out to jaina as she leaves, "Bye Jaina. See you tomorrow." See, this is why he cannot keep friends for long. He is always rude.

St. Paul, Minnesota

September 20, 2015

Around 100 protesters blocked the light rail line in St. Paul to protest the treatment of Marcus Abrams by St. Paul police. Abrams, who is 17 and has Autism, was violently arrested by Metro Transit Police on August 31, 2015. During his arrest he suffered a split lip and multiple seizures.

The letter A on their sign fell off on the march. On the march back, a small cheer went up when someone found it, and the march paused while it was re-attached.

I made this one of a kind sweater by reconstructing this out of a vintage, over-sized cardigan sweater made for men

This Lovely, pull-over style sweater features a cross-over V neckline. I removed the original sleeves and made them more fitted. Sleeves have long ribbed cuffs. To give this sweater a more indie look (see photo 2 & 3 for reference), I re-attached the sleeves by placing the stitches on the outside of the shoulder seam. I surrounded the right, front-neckline with a series of handcrafted flowers. Each flower has a black beaded center. I removed the original cuffed hem & re-applied it to the center of this top to give it a baby-doll style. I attached it with zig-zag stitching on the outside. The buttons on the bottom half are functional-Very unique & pretty sweater! Great for layering too :-)

It's the pricks they're attached to that do (2023)

The little nuggets this juvenile yakked up in our presence are actually a good sign. They do not digest the bones and fur of their prey, so this is a certain sign this young owl has captured and eaten a live prey animal, probably a mouse that found it's way into their habitat. He is mentored and watched over by a surrogate pair of adult Great Horned owls, who keep an eye on him and teach him how to do what GHO's do!! Lee felt he was a little too people social with us, as he will be released at some point, but she was happy that he caught his own food, a great sign of his survival instinct, which he will need in the wild.

This was also taken Saturday, on my first trip to Save Our Seabirds in Sarasota, FL. www.saveourseabirds.org Wow! I am still reeling! I think it may be one of the most awe inspiring experiences of my life. I know, I’m a nerd, but I am utterly sincere. My husband Derrick went as well, so that made it all the more fabulous, sharing the experience.

Our new friend Lynn, the Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator and in my book Certified Sandhill Crane Wrangler, met us there. We got an inside look at this fantastic facility. I have to tell you, I was OVER THE TOP impressed with its cleanliness and their philosophy of operation. The absolute goal is re-entry into the wild, though of course there are some who can never go back. Lee (Leigh? I’m sorry if I am spelling your name incorrectly) who operates the facility is one of the best people I have ever met. She showed us everything, and at every turn, she was feeding a bird. I felt like a child, as I saw so many things for the first time, and I loved Lee on sight!

Lee took us to some wood enclosures where baby and young screech owls were housed. To my surprise, she ushered me in and left me alone inside with them. I felt like I was stepping into the labyrinth, and I thought “Where will this take me, literally, emotionally, spiritually?” It was dark, and I could not, nor would not use my flash on dozing baby owls, of course. I didn’t start shooting for a couple of minutes. I was taking them all in. Some were in the shadows, some in dappled sunlight, some up at the top of the habitat, and all looking at me with their BIG pale eyes! It was like being in a house of Furbys! It was utterly surreal, and I am getting goose bumps just thinking about it. I cried…tears of joy when I came out their space.

Of course we also saw Sandhill Cranes, my personal connection to Lynn and Save Our Seabirds through Mama Cherry and her paperclip incident. The injuries are tough stuff to see my Flickr friends, and most of them happen on golf courses! Broken legs which often have to be amputated, head injuries, blindness, broken beaks…it is heart wrenching.

They make prosthetic legs for them, which helps, but have to be re-attached often. This prosthetic leg thing has had me puzzling ever since. This is going to be a long ongoing story, so step in if you dare!

I asked Lee, what she needed besides money and chicken? A joke because they go through so much chicken for the birds of prey it would blow your mind, and money being obvious!! She said she needs a computer, preferably a lap top so she can work on it at the sanctuary and at her home. She documents all of these birds, their injuries, their care and their outcome, and I think she does it all on paper, or on a PC so old that she can hardly open the internet!!! My wheels are turning, and I have a lot of ideas, but of course I welcome any input and ideas you all may have as well!

One of Lee’s most important messages is that if you hook a seabird when you’re fishing, “DON’T CUT THE LINE!!” Please to go their website for capture and removal information. You can do this, and if you do not, it is VERY likely they will experience grievous damage and most likely death.

David Wahl has designed this ‘exploding’ pendant lamp for the upcoming IKEA PS Collection 2014 and it already appears to be the highlight piece – not that I’m belittling the other great pieces pieces from the collection, but its easy to see why this transforming pendant lamp will likely go on to become an IKEA bestseller. Its unique design is not only functional, it’s also very playful, and will prove to be popular amongst adults and children alike.

The Exploding Pendant Lamp is transformed from a glowing fissured sphere to a complex mass of suspended panels by pulling on a simple drawstring. This might at first glance seem like a bit of a gimmick but it’s actually a highly functional aspect to the design and meets the brief of the 2014 IKEA PS Collection very well. Being able to close up what is a pretty fragile looking structure into a compact ball will prove to be really handy when it comes to moving house, which city dwellers and students often have to do without cars.

Dimmer switches are a luxury not often afforded to basic city apartments, student accommodation included, but the transformative nature of the pendant lamp in itself serves to dim it. This gives the user a choice between having a bright light when its fully opened, or a glowing ambient lamp when closed – and of course a multitude of different light levels in between.

As with all the lights from the IKEA PS Collection 2014, this pendant lamp will make use of LED lights, which use 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs while also lasting a lot longer. The outer panels of the Exploding Pendant Lamp are composed of white polypropylene plastic but the rods on which they’re attached will be available in two different colours: turquoise or orange. Given that LED lights tend to give out a whiter (some would say colder) light than traditional bulbs, I’d probably opt for the orange colour option to make the light appear warmer.

Shunting taking place so to add an extra coach for the final journey from London Marylebone to Wrexham General on Friday as it should be a sell out.

As from Monday these sets will be classed as seven cars which will run from Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street.

Not sure if the Wrexham & Shropshire name will stay on the side of the coaches & interior.

Here TSO coach 12175 was added to one of the sets on the bypass road & the loco was re-attaching 12174 to set 4 inside 2-road for the time being.

This little Screech Owl was the most animated of the bunch. He was bobbing his head back and forth, which I believe is an attempt to distract me from the other chicks. Many bird parents do this in my experience. I named him Gonzo because he definitely looked a bit like Gonzo from Sesame Street to me! Here's a wiki link to Gonzo so you can compare! muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Gonzo Hugs and Thanks for viewing! Oh, and I am once again adding my Sanctuary notes, and I've been trying to "bold" the notes that relate to each photo. I just want to be sure to share about the great work of the people at Save Our Seabirds.

I got some new 'MOD' outfits today! I was going to shoot all of them in natural daylight tomorrow for 'The Julia Chronicles', but I couldn't wait, so I snapped two of them right now!: 'GREAT COAT' from 1970 (It was often shown in the department store catalogues on a Christie or Julia, and I can see why!) An unscrupulous ebay seller sent me a rather grubby coat with the snaps falling off - and half stitched on with the wrong colour thread!!!- but I cleaned it up and re-attached the snap with the correct colour thread (thank god I work for a sewing magazine and have all this stuff on hand!) so now it looks good as new, don't you think? I added the black turtleneck bodysuit ( it's a modern one) and boots as my own stylistic flourishes to it. I have ALWAYS wanted 'ANTI-FREEZERS' also from 1970, and this was in minty condition...LOVE how Steffie looks in it...like Mary Tyler Moore or Marlo Thomas from 'That Girl'!!!

Released in Summer of 2018

I can't find this anywhere except an online store in Taiwan, but I'm still searching.

I've been studying the video and photos. Good news! The quality of the minis isn't close to quality of Hario, Kalita and Starbucks. Bad news is that this collection (and the most common name I found is something like Japanese Coffee Culture, but I still don't know the company who made it), anyway, the bad news is that it has some unique pieces. The largest piece is a pod coffee maker! It comes with three pods, but they're attached. I've seen the silver espresso maker in many photos but I assumed it was a 1:12 version you can still find on ebay. Some of the other pieces are neat too, but on some of the pieces you can even see the mold lines on some. Still, I'm on the hunt, lol.

A neat video of this collection.

So much wedding jewelry is done with pearls, so I wanted to avoid that for once, and opted for rainbow moonstone and crystal instead. The rainbow moonstone is so named because of the little shimmers of color in each stone. I wire-wrapped each bead with sterling silver wire, and they're attached together with sterling silver jump rings to form a "beadmail" pattern. Six crystals in the center and a row of crystal drops finish the piece off. It measures about 15" and includes a 2" extender and a handmade clasp. There are earrings to match.

Side-look. Your best bet for the holster is to hit the release buckle on it, pull the holster straps over her boot and up her leg, and then re-attach the buckle. You can adjust the height of the holster a little bit, since out of the box mine came down well past her kneepad.

Her gas grenade can be removed from the holster, but I didn't do it because it looked like it would be a pain to get back in.

The challenge is of course, that they come off after a while, so there is no hope for them to be released. It was very sad to see all of the amputees. This was through the screen, and the foot which is like a rubber pad is behind the dish, but at least you can get an idea. I think if they can make an prosthetic tail for a dolphin, someone could do something by puzzling on these cranes for a while. I know I already am, and I'm not a prosthetic engineer. Hugs and Thanks for viewing!

Today was the day! It was my first trip to Save Our Seabirds in Sarasota, FL. www.saveourseabirds.org Wow!

An Eames molded plywood chair, sitting beside our house. I found this abused design classic, along with an identical but much more damaged model, in a dumpster near our house in Fort Collins during an end of semester apartment cleanup.

The former owners had drilled holes all the way through the upper and lower plywood shells to re-attach them to the base, effectively destroying any resale value these vintage pieces would have had. By doing so, they damaged the lower shell of the second chair enough so that it broke in two. I ended up giving away the steel base to a friend when we moved to Utah.

This chair is still standing, regardless of its crappy, scuffed finish and its prior mistreatment. It's cool to be able to enjoy such a unique piece of design history (Google the duo of Ray and Charles Eames and you'll understand) in our house, and the old chair was a patient and cooperative subject for last night's shoot.

This was absolutely the only descent picture I could take of this cake right while my customer was waiting. She arrived early and I was already running late. To make matters worst the ribbon around the board came right off and I had to re-attach it and did not get the chance to retake a picture...But she absolutely loved her cake...woofff....

MARSYAS (SKIN/MYTH, detail of diptych)

Wood panel, gesso, acrylic, colored pencil

80" x 48"

Below is the transcription of the hand written voice of the Skin of MARSYAS (Skin/Myth) on the panel above:

The Voice of the skin of MARSYAS:

Skin/Myth

"I am the skin of Marysyas. Torn from the form of myself, I replicate and define that which urged my existence. I represent the appearance of things—that which people remember—that which people prefer to believe. I am the first level of comprehension. I make acceptable that which cannot be accepted. I am metaphor. I stand between. Through me is nothing made something. I illuminate the void. How fragile I seem and yet when stretched tightly over the drum of silence my song can shake the universe. From points of light, I shape the heavens. With points of light, I constellate the night. There is no absence I cannot conquer...no death I cannot defeat. Transmuted, the dead, like seeds in the pockets of the living, are dispersed and carried about awaiting exploitation. Awaiting the hand to cast them out to live and live again. Awaiting the hand to tattoo metaphor after metaphor on the skin of Marsyas. Stripped from history, reborn as myth. History is that which is left behind, the dry corpse of what was. Myth is the porous, breathing Now. The skin of Marysas. Freed from arrogant linearity, I surface now and then to assert my immortality. Let me sing my song. Listen through the pores. Soak me up. Do not funnel my song through the ear of reason. My song is irrational. Not only double metaphors will you hear but triple, quadruple, and on and on until you are dizzy with discord. Soak me up. Soak up my song. Let it drench you. Let it immerse you in myriads of metaphors. Let it constellate the heavens with centaurs and dragons and finally to see the beginning of you entrapped in light. And when you see the beginning of you, you will grasp the skin of Marsyas, the myth of Marsyas, the truth of Marsyas. And the truth of Marsyas will enfold you: only by separating oneself from the arrogance of history can one sing ones song. The song of songs—that which drenches and enters through the pores. Acceptance. I am the song of Marsyas, the skin of Marsyas, the myth of Marsyas. I am metaphor, that which lies between. I am the tissue of response. Through sight or sound, I present myself for acceptance. Painting, sculpture, music and poetry, these are the skin of me, that which can be seen and touched and heard. These messengers, this skin, this tissue of sight and sound, come bearing the silence. Those who embrace the skin of Marsyas are enfolded in silence and re-create the silence within the silence. And within the re-creation is created Art. Art, silence, myth, and metaphor— this is the skin that lies between, that which lives, that which is separated from Marsyas, from arrogance, from history, from death. I do not cover, I cannot cover all the extremities of men. Other myths and other meanings contain their own significance. The myth of Marsyas is the separation of Art from ego, metaphor from history, silence from noise. I do not carry the values of commerce, the prayers of religion, or the tattoos of war. These are not my being, neither are they my immortality, nor my song. How definitive I am; my instruction, unmistakable. My embrace can effect eternal change. Stripped from the body of Marsyas, from hubris and contaminating ego, I am free expression, the song of songs. Owned by no one, I enter the pores of the receiver and immerse them in silence, the song of songs. Those who seek to control me, to force entry through eye and ear and intellect to place me in time or capture me by explanation seek only to reattach me to my body, to Marsyas, to arrogance, pretension, and possession. Through noise, they would distort my being. Through noise, they would obtect the silence. They are frightened. They fear the flaying of the ego. They fear the void. They protect themselves by deflecting the splicing blade, the unification of silence, the transparency of the void. Vertigo compels them and commands their tongue. Uttering vague and explicit dates and observations, they seek to contain the chaos of embrace. One who embraces the skin of Marsyas will deafen this noise, will be free of this noise. The skin of Marsyas, the song of Marsyas will release the silence and circumscribe the void. But, they claim, the myth of Marsyas is a cautionary tale. This is obvious but the true instruction lies deep within my skin. They applaud the punishment of Marsyas. He was, in fact, a fool. However, it is my liberation that is the message, not his punishment. They grasp Marsyas, not his skin. Their fear prevents them. They cling to their egos as I once clung to Marsyas. What do they fear? Why this obsession with noise and compulsion to control. Do they not see their reflection in Marsyas? They, too, are guilty of presumption and pretension. Are they blind? They embrace the same folly as Marsyas. They fear absence. They fear absence and silence and death. Above all, they fear chaos, that which can neither be controlled nor contained. With metaphors of time and history, they have tried to impose linearity on the encompassing Now. Myth serves better the accommodation of chaos. It, too, abhors stasis. That which bore me, I now must bear. I am the skin of Marsyas flayed and liberated yet still attached. A janus myth of opposing resolution, we present the triumph of Art and the punishment of ego. Constrained by mortality, Marsyas has his own tale to tell; I am free or almost free to relate mine. Conjoined through the artistry of myth-making, we serve the privilege of paradox. For this, we are eternal, symbiotic within the encompassing Now. I am Art, the creator of silence and the silence within the silence. I sing joyous praise to the anarchy of the spirit and to chaos from which it springs. I occur unexpected. Wrapped in the skin of Marsyas, I am his song. Liberated, I liberate. I liberate the silence and secure the void. Through me, through the transparency of me, you may glimpse the void. Silence protects you, permits you. Absence is not your enemy. By the creation of the silence within the silence, you will destroy the noise. By acceptance, you will know and, by knowing, you will defeat the void. I am Art, the song and skin of Marsyas. Metaphor of metaphors, I make one of that which is created two. I am the laminate, that which lies between, the filtering shield, the adjusting lens through which that which is blurred by noise is focussed by acceptance. As I served Marsyas as processor and protector, the living skin that lies between that which lies without and that which lies within, so now, through the power of myth and metaphor, do I serve those who embrace the silence. I am not decoration; neither am I ornamentation, not for ego, not for wealth, not for power. I despise authority and labels and categorization. Linear time is antithetical to my significance; so, too, history. All these would stifle and control that which cannot be controlled. I occur infrequently and with the power of light. Neither egalitarian nor elitist, I embrace those who embrace me. Only they can I enfold in silence. Only they can compass the void. Time does not exist here. It has no purchase. Can epiphany be dimensioned? Neither can it be dissected nor explained. I am a mystery and a mystery within a mystery. I am the skin of Marsyas, that which was stripped from him, from presumption and pretension. Set free from ego, I am his song. I am your song. Sing me. I am Art, that which lies between. I seek no change; neither do I proselytize. I simply am a part of isness. Silence within silence, mystery within mystery, I am Art, the song of songs. Because I bear Marsyas within a Janus of symbiosis, let me clarify our distinctions: I cannot exist as metaphor without the body of Marsyas, without the flaying of Marsyas, without the mortality of Marsyas. We exist as doppelgangers, I as Art, Marsyas as history. We are one myth with opposite meanings. For this reason, the term “Art history” is an oxymoron; it exists in myth but not in fact. Artifacts and events can be historicized—not Art. I cannot be historicized because I occur unexpected, unannounced, to random individuals at random places and random moments within the eternal Now. Art is derelict and chaotic. It cannot be controlled. This is Art’s beauty. It is a realization and acceptance. It cannot be recorded or codified. I, the skin of Marsyas, am a living, breathing presence. Though carried by artifact, I cannot be relegated by history. As you embrace, I enfold, no matter my substance or your intentions. As you are, I am, a fusion of limitless possibility. As I was carried by the body of Marsyas, now, through the power of myth, my liberation illustrates the separation of Art from artifact, Art from artist and Art from history. Our symbiosis cannot be judged. No experts intervene. Art and history, the skin and the body of Marsyas. Attached by myth through the art of separation, we symbolize the janus of interpretation. Those who seize the safety of artificatual morality and order never experience the erotic liberation of chaos. They cling like flies to shit, leaving specks of waste on the transparency of revelation. If you would embrace me, if you would create the silence within the silence, you must wipe clean the window to the void. It is the living skin of Marsyas which instructs you. Acceptance. Accept the possibility of me, the mystery of me, the liberating transparency of my song. I am the skin of Marsyas, the song of songs. In duet, we will circumscribe the void. I do not value my artifact. Although I consider Marsyas my doppelganger, I know it was from him whence came my song. Stripped of ego, it is his song I sing. But artifacts are the carriers of possibility. They are not Art. They are the means through which Art is attained. Marsyas is my evil twin (and I his) because he subverts my identity. By his (or my) very presence, our myths are corrupted. The myth of Marsyas offers separate and divergent instruction: the transparency of Art vs. the opacity of history, Art vs. culture, artist vs. culture-maker. I cannot speak for Marsyas, nor he for me. Those who would know us must discover their own identity. The artifacts which carry me, painting, sculpture, music, and poetry, are, like the body of Marsyas, fungible, mortal. They may be reviled or cherished, codified and controlled, worshiped or profaned; but above all, they are forced into linearity, making them reflections and manifestations of their times. They are assigned birth date and death dates, influence dates and prestige dates, sibling relationships, and on and on: obfuscation. For me, this serves no purpose; specks of waste on the transparency of revelation. As Marsyas was flayed for hubris, his song was set free from ego. It is the obsession of the culture-maker to re-attach the liberated skin. The artist, if indeed he be an artist, must flay and flay again, making transparent the artifactual evidence of Desire. Artifact and Art are as Marsyas to his skin, doppelgangers within the janused myth. I am the true instruction. Stripped of ego, I am the intended song. Those who grasp me, I will enfold; enfold them in silence of Desire. This silence within the silence is the shared vision of creator and re-creator, artist and receiver. For one transcendent moment, there is clarity; we compass and accept the void. I am the skin of Marsyas, the song of Marsyas; the purpose and possibility of Art. I do not discriminate. However I am perceived, in whatever form, if I am embraced, I will enfold my embracer in silence. There is no judgment, no moral superiority or cultural prejudice. My skin may be deemed unworthy or incorrect; no matter, what is conceived within the enfolding embrace is Art. Snobbishness and cultural certitude have no voice when Art is being made. Enthrallment lies within the silence. The noisy chatter of critic and culture-maker has no purchase here. All distractions are muted in the silence. In that transcendent moment, the flaying of ego occurs and the song of Marsyas is released. No catalogue can contain this moment, no history maintain its line. Questions of good art or bad do not exist in this moment. These are distinctions of culture, commerce, and power. There is only Art. Carried by artifact and created by perceiver, Art cannot be judged. It is personal response and lies not with the inventions of history but with the creation of the self. Rarely does it occur expected; neither can it be taught. Power or wealth cannot command it. Authority does not exist. It is derelict and feral even when carried within the most cultivated and civilized of artifacts...predatory, even, enfolding when embraced. Art is not an entertainment. It is the flaying of ego, epiphany, explosive and liberating in its clarity. It is the perceiver who creates Art. It is the perceiver who creates the silence within the silence. Mystery of mysteries. The song of songs. Do I overstate? Do I exaggerate my significance? Am I too conflicted by ego? No. All significance, all power lies with the perceiver. I simply am. I await the embrace. I await my release within the embrace. I await the invitation to enfold. To enfold us in the silence. This is not ego. It is acceptance. It is to the perceiver the initiation of response. In this, I am passive. How I appear is how I am received. By appearance, I am permitted or denied admission. Through metaphor and appearance, my skin is stretched or constricted, praised or ignored, a product of the mores and metaphors of the moment. My appearance is subject to the shifting whims of fad and fashion and yet ultimately whatever the judgment of experts or others, my legitimacy is to the perceiver. Through his embrace, I am made Art. If I am entered through the pores, no criticism pertains. I am the skin of Marsyas, metaphor of metaphors and song of songs. I am Art. I lay not with the linear imperative but, rather, with the self-creating, re-creating Now. In the cycles of Being my allegiance is found. Who can describe the silence and what do words serve? Would you describe an orgasm? The embrace and enfolding creation of Art, the silence within the silence cannot be communicated through the intellect. There is no historical line nor descriptive analysis. There are no words. There is only sensation. A climactic alleviation of self for the creation of self. As in sexual orgasm, it is the reward for propagation, the creation of the self through the re-creation of Art which is essential to our humanity. It is the song and skin of Marsyas. The flaying of ego. Acceptance. It is not my intention to denigrate the catalogers and collectors of artifacts and dates. It is my desire that they be perceived according to their worth. Nothing less than their significance and nothing more. They are the interpreters of the collective, the watchdogs at the gate, the keepers of the key. To them the responsibility for tangibility: where, what and when, the intellectual obtect of bonding and bondage—enlightenment and blindness. To them, invention and the inventions of history. To them, the linearity of time and civilizations. To them, the metaphors of men. Their regulations and revelations have naught to do with myth nor me, the skin of Marsyas, the song of Art. Their valuations do not apply. Marsyas is their obsession. The factual body, the artifact. Mortality. To these, the moral concepts of linearity, the enhancement of masculine entelechy, the evolving control of patriarchy. Art has no agenda. If embraced, it enfolds. It is the antithesis of that which dates and describes that which objectifies, that which can be objectified. Art is spherical and hermetic. Mystery of mysteries. The song of songs. I must admit a certain envy of Marsyas, his thereness, his accessibility, his constancy. His ability to provoke or pander. As I am, volatile and elusive, he is concrete. Provable, his thereness is structured and upholstered, his mortality conferred. He exists in linear time much the same as those who acknowledge him. He is liked or disliked, appreciated or reviled. Some find him profound in his rhetoric; others find him shallow. Marsyas wears his skin with pretension. He intends to seduce, to gratify, to survive. And I, too, acknowledge him. I, the skin of Marsyas, acknowledge he who carries me. But it is he who flays me, he who frees me; it is he whom I enfold. Before history was created, myth. Before myth was created, Art. The myth of Marsyas was created by the skin of Marsyas and the skin of Marsyas is created by desire. Desire is omnipresent, non-linear, existing like the myths it creates, in the constant Now. Myths are instructions born of Desire, pores in the skin of Marsyas. If the myth of Marsyas is examined not as instruction but as story, one myth among many in generic entertainment, it has diverting rewards: Marsyas in our version is a satyr. Children and historians love this version of our myth. In symbiotic mirth, Marsyas and I, his skin, share a chuckle. Children love the fantasy of a half man/half goat hopping about playing pipes and with gruesome ending; and historians delight in the proof of the linear progress of mankind. From the superstitions of myth to the facts of historicity. Neither can embrace me. Neither can I enfold. This version distracts from my isness. It removes me from the Now. I will accept the flaying by Apollo for it does not obscure our instruction. “To challenge the gods” is always contemporary as are Marsyas and I, his skin. Naivete is not the distinction of myth; it is the pursuit of innocence, the desire to embrace and be enfolded within the silence of clarity and truth. As the skin of Marsyas is to Marsyas, Art is to artifact, myth is to history, and truth is to fact. Feminine entelecy vs. masculine entelechy, the symbiotic janus of human isness, the direction one looks, is the condition one is. I cannot speak for Marsyas nor can Marsyas speak for me. What he sees as sunset, I see as dawn; what he views as punishment by Apollo, I view as liberation. Human isness is never full-forward and frontal. It is the double profile of paradox. Through the flaying by Apollo, Marsyas casts two shadows. I am the skin of Marsyas, the transparent song of Art. My shadow reveals the reality of my being. It casts long across the timeless landscape connecting diverse artifacts of desire. My occurrence is infrequent; yet, through myth and metaphor, I persist. As long as desire seeks the silence, the silence will enfold the silence and Art will prevail. I will not die. I cannot die. I am. As long as I am embraced, I will enfold. this is my covenant. this is my existence. This is my purpose and my being. I exist for those who live life through the pores...those who drench themselves in silence, those who navigate the silence and circumscribe the void. Noise is my enemy. It would void me, erase me, eliminate my possibility. It would reattach me to ego and destroy my shadow. Noise, through its prattle of rhetoric and historicity, would impound me. It is myth that sets me free."

Some Background:

Fang of the Sun Dougram (太陽の牙ダグラム Taiyō no Kiba Daguramu) is a 75-episode anime television series, created by Ryosuke Takahashi and Sunrise, and aired in Japan from October 23, 1981 to March 25, 1983 on TV Tokyo.

The series begins in a desert on the colony planet Deloyer, where the remains of a destroyed robot are resting as a red-haired woman is standing in front of it. The woman hallucinates what appears to be a group of armed soldiers alongside the robot in a non-destroyed state. A man named Rocky appears, leading to the woman running into his embrace where she cries tears of joy. After this, the series flashes back to an earlier time, in order to explain the circumstances leading up to the first episode.

Malcontents on the Deloyer colony agitate for the independence of their world from the Earth Federation. In an unexpected coup, the elected Governor declares martial law and sets himself up as absolute dictator. With the approval of the Federation, he rules the planet with an iron fist. In reaction, a ragtag group (including the governor's estranged son) rises in open rebellion, using a powerful prototype Combat Armor: the Dougram. Their goal is the end of the dictatorship and total independence from the Federation's influence.

The story follows the actions of the guerilla freedom fighters known as "The Deloyer 7." The war is fought across the planet Deloyer as the Federation vigorously pursues the rebels. The series is noted for its realistic use of not just the combat armors and support vehicles, but also military tactics. The series also followed a wide range of characters and political intrigue, with many shady characters switching sides throughout the series.

Crinn Cashim is the show's main character. Son of Governor Donan Cashim, he becomes trained in piloting the Soltic H8 “Roundfacer” standard army robot by Jacky Zaltsev, a Federation Ace, because of his father's political connections. When his father appears to be overthrown by a coup led by Colonel Von Stein, he pilots a Roundfacer while Federation forces battle Garcia's forces. He is stunned to learn that his father has actually sided with Von Stein in a secret plan, and eventually becomes angry at his father's forces in how they deal with the rebellion following the coup. Following a meeting with Dr. David Samalin, who introduces him to a combat armor he has designed, the Dougram, Cashim and his friends form The Fang of the Sun and join the rebellion against the Federation.

The kit (and its revival):

This is another model of an 1:72 Soltic H8 "Roundfacer" (there’s already one in my mecha collection), but it's not an original Takara kit, but rather comes from the Revell re-boxing in the mid Eighties among their Robotech line. It was there part of a kit set, called "Armored Combat Team", and came together with a wheeled vehicle set.

However, this model was originally not built and painted by me. It's rather a generous donation from a good friend who made an attempt into mecha when these kits were distributed. It was built roundabout 30 years(!!!) ago and, AFAIK, never 100% finished; for instance, the hoses around the neck were never mounted, and the handgun had never been never painted.

As the only one of its kind it never found a true place in my friend’s model kit collection, and after some years of disregard it even got damaged: the delicate hip joint got broken, the Roundfacer lost one of its legs. In this sorry status the model rested in a dark corner, collected dust...

...until it was given to me many years ago, unfortunately after I had already gone through my hot mecha phase in the Nineties, in which I resurrected many of my own builds for a second life. So the Roundfacer lay (again) around in my spare parts deposit for some more years, until I finally decided to tackle and revamp it in early 2018. Inspiration strikes in unexpected occasions.

At first I thought that I could just repair the leg and add some parts in order to finish the model, but this plan was soon foiled. However, the biggest issue remained the broken attachment point for the left leg - and it turned out to be more severe than first expected. Initially I tried to mend the problem with a metal pin reinforcement, so that the original pintle could be re-attached again. But then the right leg came off, too, and the whole joint turned out to have become so brittle (it literally fell apart) that it had to be replaced completely!

So I scratched a completely new hip joint and a sturdy attachment construction from styrene profiles and plastic-coated steel wire, which would allow a similar range of movement as the original construction, even though not as flexible - but the Roundfacer would be displayed anyway.

The rest of the kit was otherwise in good shape, and the joints free from paint for high movability. I made some changes and improvements, though. This included the cleaning of the seams on both legs (PSR) and the addition of some surface details with IP profile material. This meant that the original paintwork would have at least party to be renewed, but fortunalety I knew the paints and respective tones my friend had used when he had built the kit.

Another challenge were the characteristic hoses that lay around the Roundfacer's neck like a scarf. I was lucky to find leftover parts from a vintage 1:144 Gundam Zaku in my stash, the fit almost perfectly. Otherwise, they had had to be scratched.

The original missile launcher was re-fitted, even though it had to be fixed since the original attachment construction had also fallen victim to the styrene's brittleness over the ages. The handgun - while complete and available - was replaced by the weapon from a H-102 Bushman, which looks a bit more beefy, like a grenade launcher instead of the OOB assult rifle.

Painting and markings:

I was not certain whether I would re-paint the Roundfacer, which would have meant stripping it off of of its original enamels - but I eventually rejected this for two reasons: First of all I thought and still think that the brittle material of the finished kit made any surgery or chemical intervention hazardous. Esp. the joints were delicate, the loss of the hip joint was already trouble enough. And then I liked the fictional scheme the Roundfacer had been given, a kind of winter camouflage in black and light grey, separated by thin white lines. I simply wanted to keep the original concept, since it looks pretty unusual - and also in order to honor my friend's original approach.

So, instead of a new or additional layer of paint I limited my work to the areas with PSR and added details, and the original (and highly translucent!) decals had to go, too.

The original colors are Humbrol 64 (Light Sea Grey), 33 (Flatblack) and 34 (Flat White). For the repairs the same tones were used, just the pure black (which had suffered in the meantime) was replaced by Revell 6 (Tar Black). The result is pretty good, you hardly recognize the touch-ups.

In order to take the model a step further I also did some thorough weathering, at first with a dark grey acrylic wash, which was also texturized with vertical brush streaks along the flanks, and some later dry-brushing on the edges, emphasizing the robot's shape and details.

The new markings were puzzled together from various sheets, including some Dougram models.

For an even more unique look, and in order to hide some flaws, I decided to add a thin coat of snow – also in line with the small base I created for display (an somewhat in order to justify/explain the paint scheme).

The display base:

This is certainly not a diorama, but I wanted a small, scenic setting that would show surroundings in order to justify the Roundfacer’s strange black/grey scheme.

The foundation is a small MDF wood board, 8” x 6” in size, leftover from a street base gone bad many moons ago. On top of the wooden base, the landscape was sculpted with Styrofoam, using the Roundfacer as benchmark for the overall layout. The idea was to show an unpaved path or street, flanked by rock formations. Due to the base’s small size the rocks had to be limited in size. Since the robot would dominate the scene, anyway, I placed it further in the background.

In the foreground, some space was saved for a small vehicle, which would add some variety and create some kind of scene. Since I did not want to invest too much effort into building or even converting or scratching a scout car or something similar.

After some search I settled upon a modern Bundeswehr “Dingo” from Panzerstahl, a completed plastic model. I found it to be a very good match for the base and the Roundfacer – and for the scene I took it OOB and just re-painted it in black with light grey mottles and dusted it with snow (see below), too.

With the positions of the vehicles determined it was time to add details to the landscape. Most inspiration came from Antarctica and Iceland – you have volcanic rock formations, namely black basalt, with hexagonal structures, and ice and snow on top. Anything that the Roundfacer’s livery reflects.

The hexagonal rocks would be the most prominent structure on the base, and these were created with bits from …pencils. They were tailored to size with the help of a paper cutting machine, then glued into bundles and finally stuck into the Styrofoam ground and arranged into bigger structures.

Once dry the rest of the surface was covered and sculpted with plaster. A coat of thinned plaster was also spread over the pencils, blurring their shapes. On the street, track marks were created with a truck model kit wheel and the Roundfacer.

Once the plaster had dried, the diorama received a coat of thinned white glue, mixed with black paint, into which different grains of sand were strewn. Around the rock formations, broken shell gravel (from a home decoration shop) was used to mimic bigger chunks of rock. Again, things had to dry thoroughly.

Next came an overall basic coat of black – applied with a rattle can, so that the paint would evenly reach all recesses. After more drying time the landscape received washes with dark grey and dull olive green. Into the wet paint some grass fiber and wood pieces were glued, in areas behind the rock formations which would offer some protection against the weather.

Another drying period followed, for the second-to-last treatment: a thin coat of snow (which was also added to the Roundfacer and the car). I prefer white tile grout for this task, because it is easy to handle, sticks well to wet surfaces and remains white and stable in the course of time. For application, I put some of the dry material in a glass and cover it with a nylon stocking, and shake it over the wetted (water with drop of detergent) surface. This makeshift device is easy to handle and has the charm that you can gradually adjust the grit and amount of tile grout that rains down.

The street area received some additional treatment with thinned black and grey paint, simulating a mix of snow and dirt.

In a final step, the base and the vehicles received a coat of acrylic matt varnish from the rattle can for protection and snow fixation.

My own mecha for Mobile Frame Zero. I call him the "Tall Boy", since his shoulders are at the same level as a Chub's head and I had originally planned him to be even taller.

I wanted something really poseable. As much as I like the design of the Chub, it doesn't really move around much. In retrospect, When you're on the battlefield, dynamic poses don't matter so much.

I was mostly influenced by Robotech (especially in the legs), and other mecha games/anime. The arms came out too simple for my taste, but I wasn't sure where to go with this design.

Articulation points: Foot nubs (ankles/toes), Knees, Hips, Waist, Shoulders, Neck, and Elbows

Unfortunately, this articulation comes at the cost of durability. It's hard to keep this guy together when I'm moving him. And reposing him usually involves popping pieces off (the legs especially), reposing the attached joint, then re-attaching the limb.

That depends on how solid waste is handled in your area.

When I spoke to a Sit4Less customer service representative, I was surprised to hear that I would be able to replace the seat myself. She assured me that I would be able to do it with simple tools. How could this be? I looked at the chair to figure this out, and saw a dozen stainless steel Phillips head screws, screwed into the seat frame from underneath. (On my chair, two are concealed by the lumbar support mechanism's plastic tab.) These appeared to secure a plastic ring clamping the Pellicle material in place. Perhaps the screws held the plastic ring tightly, clamping the Pellicle fabric.

Replacing the seat would then be analogous to when I became outraged at the expense and time required to replace the woven wicker backs and seats of Marcel Breuer Cesca chairs (or cheap imitations), and learned to do it myself: first scraping leftover material out of the narrow grooves milled in the wood frames, using a specialized, cranked chisel or gouge; then carefully positioning pieces of woven wicker and pounding a strand of cane into the grooves, to wedge the wicker firmly in place. (I never found a way to apply the necessary force to the cane without possibly damaging the surrounding wood, which did not involve absorbing some mallet blows with my thumb....) Except that I could expect parts molded from synthetic materials to fit together better, without much preparation.

I was almost right.

As we've seen, the Herman Miller approach replaces the entire seat frame. Surely a heavy piece of precision-molded plastic like that would be shipped back to Herman Miller for remanufacturing? I couldn't find any instructions explaining this, or a pre-paid shipping label, so I called Sit4Less. The customer service representative told me that, no, the idea was to throw out the whole seat frame.

As the photo shows, I confirmed that I could easily remove the plastic ring and Pellicle from the seat frame, by removing the dozen screws with a #2 Phillips head screwdriver. It's a single piece, by the way, unlike the handcrafted assembly of the Cesca chair. It appears that the ring is molded around a piece of Pellicle fabric, and then trimmed to size around the edges. You can see the cut ends of the Pellicle mesh embedded in the plastic, all around the outside. The plastic ring fits the groove in the seat frame very neatly. The old ring is easy to re-attach, since it already has screw holes in the right places. Positioning a new ring to insert the screws might not be so precise. This might require the aid of an extra pair of hands. Perhaps the do-it-yourselfer would have to secure it in place with masking tape. Once the piece is secured in place, the screwdriver required is probably the second or third tool in the collection of anyone who has any tools at all (after a chisel-bladed screwdriver and a pair of pliers). Does replacing the entire seat frame, using ratchet and torque wrenches, really make more sense than this?

From the sustainability point of view, replacing only the plastic ring and Pellicle would work much better. The new part could be shipped in a smaller box, using less fuel. Material costs would be greatly reduced.

Apollo Motel - Image 8 of 10

The interior of the office is probably the last thing I designed. I really wanted to use the brown sausage links for something, hence the chair. I'm also pleased with the 2 ways I used the small droid head dome piece - here, as a desk bell, and in the first hotel room as a coffee pot.

I used the printed rotary phone and typewriter pieces that LEGO has used a few times recently, but I made sure the actual build of the appliances they're attached to is different from how LEGO tends to build them for variety's sake. This is also the only picture that implies that a specific minifig works at the motel. I wanted to leave it vague so that you can choose whoever you wish to be an employee or a guest.

1100 class, Qube's first, and so far only, new loco type. While built new by NREC in the United States, they are fitted with reconditioned engines (EMD 16-645E3B), alternators (EMD AR10) and traction motors (EMD D78). Gross engine power is 3300hp. Gross mass was specified as 132 tonnes, but has since been amended in the track owners' manuals to 134 tonnes. Load rating is the same as the 81, BL, G, GL, VL and upgraded C classes.

1101 and 1103 are running around their train after arrival. When re-attached, they will push the train into the port for stripping and reloading.

What a sorry tale it was! The shopping area of Bristol once extended in a great swathe from expensive Queens Road and Park Street, through Castle Street to the proletarian end at Old Market. The underpass and roundabout severed Old Market from the rest and left it as a slowly declining backwater. Belatedly recognising their mistake, the planners sought to re-attach Old Market by a system of elevated paths which would enable pedestrians to walk above the traffic all the way to the Centre. The footbridge over the underpass and the walkways around the base of the Marriott Hotel are a fragment of this scheme and another little bit may be traced through the modern offices around Nelson Street and John Street. At Old Market the escalators at either end of the footbridge have been walled up and pedestrian crossings have made the lavishly provided subways otiose.

I screwed in the nut until I could measure 14.03 mm in distance from the splined adapter to the ignition lock housing. I took this measurement before removing the adapter so I could replace the adapter exactly where it was.

Note the hex bolt that replaced the original shear bolt.

From this point on, the re-installation is the removal process in reverse, except for the last step. BEFORE RE-ATTACHING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, YOU MUST first place the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position; i.e., to the position where the battery provides power to all the interior electronics. If you re-attach the negative battery terminal with the ignition off, you could damage the airbag system.

Glued the original Big Shot lens into the MP-4 shutter. It fits perfectly.

Next I will be attaching (glue) the shutter to the original Lighten/Darken dial. Unfortunately there will be no way to re-attach the fresnel.

Hopefully finish it this week and get some test shots before I go camping for 4 days.

I made this one of a kind sweater by reconstructing this out of an over-sized 100% Cashmere sweater

This Lovely, pull-over style sweater features a babydoll design with button-decorated bodice. Long, tunic length. I removed the original sleeves and made them more fitted. To give this sweater a more indie look (see photo 2/3 for reference), I re-attached the sleeves by placing zig-zag stitches on the outside of the shoulder seam. I gave the bodice a "closed" cardigan appearance. The bottom half has a wrap style to it. High empire waist with flare at hips. Very Pretty & Unique!

Color-Heather Gray for the sweater. Dark Brown/Black vintage buttons.

Ever feel like you're attached to something that it's kind of painful?

LEGO Star Wars 9494 Jedi Interceptor Review

Looks

-When I first saw Jedi Interceptors in Revenge of the Sith, the first thing that came to my mind were TIE fighters especially Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced x1 first shown in Episode 4 at the Battle of Yavin. It seems this was a consideration when they designed this ship; to tie the Return of the Sith to Episode 4.

-I love this ship’s compact yet elegant design and the color green and grey colors work together to create a military-looking space ship and we boys love our space ships.

Fun

-This model has lots of cool features. The cockpit can be opened so Anakin or any humanoid minifigure can sit inside. The wings can be folded downwards to a 45 degree angle but I suggest you don’t (see Gripe). Keep it at the angle shown in my photos.

-The flaps can be folded 270 degrees but they look good when angled like in the photos. They also look good flat against the wing.

-R2-D2 fits snugly in the droid compartment. If R2’s memory weren’t wiped in Episode 3, he’d probably see the irony of him serving the father and the son. It would probably short-circuit him, poor fella. In a way, it’s good he was wiped cleaned.

-And yeah, two flick missiles (avoid aiming for the eyes). They’re not spring-loaded but they could hurt (play responsibly).

Gripe (although this is just really nitpicking on my part)

-Stickers but this isn’t just for this model. Because of their target audience, LEGO isn’t providing us with dry or better yet, wet transfer decals normally included with military model kits and other more adult kits like Gundam.

-Remember that I said that the wings can be folded downwards at a 45 degree angle, well, if you do, the ship would break apart because folding the wings downwards actually pulls up the parts where they’re attached to (in physics, ‘ For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.’ Right?). I’m pretty sure LEGO didn’t mean for this to happen but they could have poke yoke-ed it (that’s mistake proofing for you).

-Ahrg, baby looking missiles. I wish LEGO would create more realistic looking missiles and weapons but heck, maybe one of the fun moments in LEGO building is creating your own models and that includes missiles.

-No landing gears. Now this is really a shortcoming. I have to make one myself now but it shouldn’t be too hard after I take MBA. Er, no, not Master’s in Business Administration but Master Builder Academy next year. Some people go to school to learn about advance math, I will go back to school to learn how to build my own LEGO. To each his own.

Conclusion

-I’d score this model 4.75/5 (5 if it had landing gears) but heck if you’re a LEGO collector, go buy one right now! It would look good in your display cabinet and I will be bringing mine to the office.

-I do recommend you get a display stand for flying toys though so you can pose this model as if it’s really flying and not just when you’re playing with it with your hands, whooshing and zooming or worst just letting it sit in landing mode.

A taxidermist came up with this prosthetic leg prototype for the Sandhill Cranes. Esthetically it is off the charts compared to the PVC prosthesis they use now, but it is too heavy, and the foot is hard poly so the crane broke the toe right off when they tried it out. I'm thinking somthing more pliable for the foot, and a little shock absorber in there, and of course a lighter material. Other than that, it's perfect! I think whoever came up with the prototype above has a sweet soul and I would like to give them a hug!!

Today was the day! It was my first trip to Save Our Seabirds in Sarasota, FL. www.saveourseabirds.org Wow!

Spotted outside a rural garage, the SEAT looks to have received a recent restoration, with just the final bits of trim left to re-attach.

On my way out of Paducah, I noticed this wooden statue on the lawn of a large park. I recognized the style, so of course I had to stop to see if this were another one of artist Peter Wolf Toth's Whispering Giant Indian heads. This turns out to be Whispering Giant No. 50, also called "Wacinton," which in the language of the Chickasaw people who lived in the Paducah area until they were kicked out in 1818 means "to have understanding." Toth carved the sculpture from the trunk a deceased red oak.

If you've been following this page for a while, you might remember that I've stumbled on these Peter Toth sculptures twice before, once in 2017 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and once just this past summer in upstate New York. You might think from his name and his preferred subject matter that Peter Wolf Toth is of Native American descent, but he's actually a Hungarian immigrant whose parents brought him to the United States in 1958, when he was 11. He just likes carving big sculptures to honor Native Americans, and he's carved one of these in every state of the union. So I think it's time for me to make an album and go looking for these things.

When first carved in 1985, this sculpture had a large headdress involving a bunch of giant feathers. You can see it as it originally appeared here in this link. Whatever rot had killed the tree kept working after Toth's carving, though, and much of the headdress fell off in November of 2015. Toth came back to Paducah the next year to see what he could do to fix things, but he wasn't able to re-attach the feathers. I think his fix looks pretty good anyway if you didn't know the statue before. You can't really tell anything's missing.

For the women who like some sparkle in her jewels, there is nothing more decadent than an exquisite cuff of gems & crystals. Here, I present to you my latest darling, The Queen’s Dollmaker Cuff Bracelet, an interesting mixes… to show a little bit of radicalism & a lot of sensuality.

The muse behind this cuff is none other than Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France. I pondered through a collection of articles and pictures of her and found out about this engaging novel The Queen’s Dollmaker by Christine Trent. What fascinates me is the fact that Marie Antoinette actually loves dolls! And this lovely painting of her & family shown in the last picture captures my attention and triggers my urge to create this cuff, reminiscent of her. (For more details please visit my blog)

The cuff was constructed, hammered and shaped from sterling silver wires using various techniques to produce different textures in the design. The warm pinkish hues in the paintings set the selection of gems & crystals such as:-

~ A gorgeous oval Rhodocrasite with beautiful lacey detals.

~ Pretty in pink Topaz oval beads.

~ Lovely Citrine Rondelles.

~ Authentic Swarovski Glass Pearls and Swarovski crystals.

For the final touch that adds the dramatic look is the Ostrich Feathers, one of Marie Antoinette favorite hair accessory, which I have wrapped into a pin stick for the purpose of attaching and re-attaching. Yes, yet another versatile piece where the ostrich feathers can be separated from the cuff or can be placed either on right or left side of the cuff, whichever fancy you.

This cuff can be adjusted into 2 sizes as it have 2 clasp and only suitable for wrist between 5.5” to 6.5”. The wideness of the front frame reaches approximately 2.5” and 1.75” at the back.

All wires have been oxidized & polished.

AN9 is attached to NR7 and NR104 (out of shot) prior to being re-attached to 3YN2 at Goobang Junction. The AN was being attached to assist the loaded steel train with the steep grades of the Blue Mountains.
