The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds, also known as the 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, performed at the Arctic Thunder airshow at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska in July 2010. This was the first time I saw the Snowbirds and I was quite impressed - they put on an excellent show. I believe the planes they fly are CT-114 Tutors. Great show - check them out in person if you can!

Arctic Thunder is the name of the bi-annual air show at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. The Air Show is pretty cool with a lot of static and flying exhibitions. Unfortunately this year's show was marred by a crash of a C-17 two days before the show started, killing the 4 person crew. The fate of the air show was in doubt but it with on as a tribute to the C-17 air crew.
I was able to attend the dry run held on Friday before the actual weekend air show which is nice since it really cuts down the size of the crowd. Weather wise the show started off fine, but as with every Friday in this god awful summer the clouds rolled in shortly afternoon and it started to drizzle. It also turned the sky from a nice blue to a heavy, industrial, blah gray. Oh, here's hoping for better luck next time!
