Misty Afternoon

Acrylic on Raymar canvas panel

8"x10"

Chris Breier © 2017

I thought the afternoon was going to be a dud because it started raining when my brother and drove to the lake, but it cleared up a half hour after we arrived. The rain soaked all of the benches and picnic tables but the misty atmosphere improved the mood of this painting. It was one of those days where you could literally see the moisture in the air and feel it on your skin.

This park has a variety of trees, some of them are evergreen trees and I wanted to capture the feeling of being in a park after a rainstorm. I will consider this a successful painting if you can smell the earthy smell of the woods and the scent of pine trees when you look at it...

Picture Post - in its day a highly influential British magazine although by this date it was within a year of closure, a victim of several factors including a degree of editiorial instability with the owner attempting unsuccessfully to re-orientate the magazine and readership.

This twin colour ad page mentions a brand that is still going strong, the American Wrigley Company, whose chewing gums had apparently been even more popularised by the vast numbers of US Services personnel stationed in the UK during WW2. That said the company had been selling their products in the UK from early in the 20th century and had set up works in Wembley, London, in 1927. This advert for Spearmint includes a version of the "Wrigley's arrow man" often used in adverts.

Raymar Carpets was a tradename of Petmar Industries of Batley in West Yorkshire. I can find little out about them only that in the 1950s tehy appear to have been in the forefront of manufacturing 'tufted' carpets that had a distinct price advantage over traditional woven carpets, hence this advert.

Summer Berries, 16"x20" on #raymar linen just returned to me after being in the AWA Customs House Museum Exhibition. I shipped it out on February 8th in an Airfloat Strongbox. The exhibition just ended and it arrived safely back home. Nice to see this piece again. Thank you #americanwomenartists and #customshouse

Vintage Bicycle

The original painting is available. I spotted this bicycle when I was walking around Olcott, NY. It was in the backyard of a cottage along the shore of Lake Ontario. I like the hazy effect of where the sky meets the horizon, it creates a sense of humid summer day. This painting is on a Raymar canvas panel. Prints are available.

No se si la verá o no, pero esta foto es para Rafa, que se ha ido un tiempo de viaje,

la iluminación del primer plano es cosa suya.

solo desearle un feliz viaje :-)

Built for Harry Ward, the Wardona Cinema opened on 21st March 1938 with Shirley Temple in "Wee Willie Winkie". All seating was on a single floor, and the proscenium was 28 feet wide.

In the late-1950’s it was re-named Savoy Cinema and was closed in 1963. It was converted into an independent bingo club, and in recent years has been in use as the Savoy Snooker Club which closed in 2015. In 2017 it is a pottery shop named China Chaps..

Walked 2 miles in on gravel road to paint at the back eddy, wearing waders in case I fish, but also a bit of a barrier against rattlesnakes. Raymar wet carry case in front, paints and easel in backpack. Hillside full of Bighorn Sheep with their young.

And I could not be happier to see so much rain/snow mixed. The winds have been fierce, over 25mph. Please, Mother Nature, keep filling our rivers and lakes!!

Available at the Gibson Gallery: 11 x 14 Oil on Linen Raymar Panel $400.00

This is of the pensioner's cottage at Fort Malden in Amherstburg. This was painted during the annual Art by the River event that is hosted by the Gibson Gallery. This year they introduced a Live Painting competition (Plein-air). We find out who won on Tuesday. I started this painting at 10:30 and completed it at 3:30. There were a LOT of visitors to my easel and I do take time to chat with each one. At 3:00 panic set in! I had to have this into the gallery before 4:00! YIKES!

I will be forever grateful to the park employee who allowed me to lock up my gear in one of the buildings so I could run to the gallery with my painting. And ME with a bum KNEE! I made it with 15 minutes to spare!

Oil tanker Overseas Raymar anchored in the Bay following its accident with one of the towers of the Bay Bridge.

"A tanker ship exiting San Francisco Bay struck one of the towers of the Bay Bridge Monday morning. The ship and the bridge sustained only minor surface damage.

Part of the outer hull of the 750-foot oil tanker Overseas Raymar was crushed after the ship side-swiped he 6th tower of the Bay Bridge at 11:20 a.m. (Jan,7 2013).

Within minutes of the accident Caltrans had a structures maintenance team at the tower to do a safety evaluation and they say it appears the impacted barrier performed as it was designed to.

"About 30-40 feet of the fender system has been damaged and it will need to be replaced; it was damaged in the way it was supposed to" Caltrans spokesperson Bart Ney said.

Visibility was at one-quarter mile at the time the tanker struck the bridge. A San Francisco Bar pilot and the ship's captain were in control at the time of the incident. The vessel was detained and ordered to anchor while investigators continue to check the extent of the damage. A large piece of wood composite was visible which broke off from the fender that protects the towers on the bridge. The bar pilot and the crew will be tested for drugs and alcohol.

The tanker was headed out to sea at the time of the incident. Traffic in the bay and on the bridge was never interrupted.

In 2007, the Cosco Busan spilled 50,000 gallons of bunk fuel into the bay after colliding with a Bay Bridge tower in dense fog. The oil spill forced the closure of 50 local beaches and killed more than 6,800 birds. An investigation uncovered crucial mistakes by the bar pilot and the ship's captain. The pilot received a 10-month prison sentence for breaking several federal laws."

The pilot could now have his licence revoked (Update here)

Colin and Bob (BG) are sharing the vocals. Drummer Terry Threadingham joined Coconut Mushroom while Steve Farrow (G) and Brian Grice (K) went on to Tangerine Slide and Rosemary

Growing up in Salt Lake City, his continuing fascination with art landed him a scholarship at Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he received a BFA in Illustration in 2000 . Under the tutelage of Glen Edwards he learned to carry a sketchbook everywhere he went. It has since taught him to observe and record those events and experiences that inspire and stir emotion.

Through countless hours of personal study scouring through books at the library and painting from life, Robert has developed a method of painting from the heart.

During his study in higher education Robert also worked as a creative artist illustrating book covers. It may have lengthened the time it took to graduate but it gave him valuable experience and allowed him to develop a painterly approach in his work. It also provided an opportunity for him to cultivate friendships that would eventually lead to a path in fine art.

Following his graduation, Coombs has affiliated with three galleries in the west. He has gratefully enjoyed numerous successful group and solo shows annually. He became a member of Oil Painters of America in 2005 and won the “Hunter Editions Award of Excellence” selected by Dan Gerhartz. The following year he won the best of show “American National Award of Excellence” selected by Peter Adams. One month later he was awarded the $10,000 grand prize in Raymar's First Annual Fine Art Competition which was judged by Kevin Macpherson and Joe Anna Arnett. He is thankful to be an artist in such a wonderful time in history with a sincere hope of being a positive influence on others.

Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Toronto Chapter had a dinner at Linda Modern Thai (an always popular host with the group of gourmands), this time featuring a modern menu that featured Kevin Jeung's (post year long stages in Spain and Copenhagen) desserts.

Look at how tall Kevin is compared to everyone else... not fair that his clogs had also 2 inches of lift.
