Yesterday, I received one of those infamous phishing emails...
What provoked my interest and my written journal note here was the narrative within...
It had allegedly been written by a 'generous' couple who had won the national lottery and wanted to share their wealth with several random beneficiaries...
Suffice to say, I think the most upsetting thing about this message wasn't the deceptive fable...
It's that some poor, naïve recipient will believe it...
There's going to be a person out there, who will follow through with the details outlined in the email to acquire the supposed, benevolent donation...
I sometimes mistakenly think of theft as somehow weaker and less damaging than other self-preservative motions, but this was a reminder of just how much it can ruin a life...
When that phishing email does its dark work, the concealed, shadowy perpetrator on the other end will have access to important details that can allow them the opportunity of cleaning a person out of all their assets...
The thought incited by the email was that theft should never be taken lightly, no matter how small or 'justifiable...'

Being a GOOD PERSON – Part 7 – ‘On-demand’ culture neutralises patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and temperance...
Deception is riddled within every part of western society’s infrastructure – social, political, agricultural, financial, relational, psychological, and of course, spiritual.
Like a genie offering infinite wishes, technology makes the marketplace hyper-responsive to our desires; however, there's a deceptive cost from these 'Djinn,' that amplifies selfish ambition--otherwise known as greed--and diminishes the human propensity toward selflessness.
It is the price we unwittingly pay for the convenience and ease that technology provides, but what I’ve observed is that this 'tax' directly afflicts the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Through the over-reliance on technology, the covert 'toll' stolen from our soul, transforms us from agents of Truth into vessels of deception, living-out self-deceived lives, and deceiving others as well.
It’s an awful perpetual cycle, permitted by the collective consensus of society, and rooted in the broken, fallen nature of humanity, which is inclined toward self-preservation, self-exaltation, and self-gratification.The

We're given so many warnings that one has to wonder how we miss them...
Wounds...
Pain and suffering, while being the ultimate warning, can also operate as roots for ultimate deception and a distraction from the caution they offer us...
When we're hurt, we allow for the autopilot of self-preservation...and self-preservation breeds a hardened heart...
A hardened heart doesn't accept further warnings. It does what it wants by its measure of survival, unable to yield to 'another way...'
But the warnings will continue as its part of sovereign grace...

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”Matthew 22:37 - 40
I’ve always seen that the two great laws of Christ can be deconstructed into four tiers that flow together harmoniously...
1) The first commandment means receiving the love of God, since He loved us first...
What does this mean?
It means God provides us with the greatest worth, significance, and security, exemplified in being important enough to die for.
This also means those three components of our psyche--worth, significance, and security--are rooted on something intangible, immovable, and consistent as opposed to a fluctuating, oscillating, inconsistent base.
2) The secondary component of the first command is for us to love God.
What does this mean?
It means absolute focus on God as the centre of our lives, intertwined in every facet of our thought-life and actions, expressed in selfless living the way Christ modelled.
God loves to see His children “getting along;” therefore, loving God manifests in the natural realm as loving our neighbour or as Jesus puts it, "And the second is like it..."
This moves us onto the second commandment.

If a Christian is satisfied in their life performance, they become lukewarm. No question…
This leads to self-righteousness, which breeds ‘worldly sorrow…’
We don’t want worldly sorrow…
Worldly sorrow sounds like this: “I’ve done everything right. Why is it I’m not getting what I want?”
It’s a massive distraction and a lie…
To be obedient to the leading of the Spirit is a privilege in itself, not something where we require a reward…
We are not to boast about anything that happens while being led by the Spirit…
The epitome of Godly sorrow is when someone is attacking us and all we want to see is our attacker’s blessing and salvation…
Godly sorrow and rejoicing come hand in hand…
We must understand that we cannot bring anything to God. This is key...

The choice to cleave to said Perfection, conceives a natural expression of selflessness that the moral person can only dream of...
This doesn't mean the imperfect world changes. After all, given the fallen human condition, lies spread faster than Truth...
But it does mean that for the individual, who has decided to faithfully seek Perfection, they are renewed daily, becoming the most productive person possible in line with helping their fellow man...

One of the hardest things to do as a Christian is walk the journey after understanding what the promises of God really say...
He does not promise financial affluence...
He does not promise career success...
He does not promise a loving, healthy relationship with a sound-minded spouse...
He does not promise a happy life...
He guides and leads us in denying the self...
He guides and leads us in renouncing selfish ambition....
He guides and leads us in yielding our life plans to Him...
And then hardest of all, He asks us to trust Him in a plan that for all intents and purposes, doesn't look favourable to our personal desires, because it's a plan of becoming emptied, then filled with selflessness, sacrificial love, and forgiveness....
This walk looks impossible, but God promises He does the impossible...

This is why the path of repentance is so special…
If followed according to the hard choices one has to make in line with sincere repentance, the individual surrenders. It’s a white flag. A confession of the deepest sort. An admission of the hardest kind…
“I was completely wrong.” “I don’t know anything.” “I’m not a good person at all.” “I desperately need help.” “Teach me your ways…”
All of these statements are part and parcel, commencing transformation of the subconscious, which is how real change happens...
