Ratée car pas bien cadrée

We're right in the thick of it now as a Kitchener line train ploughs it's way along track one through Humberview trying to keep up with the intense snowfall. At this point in time the snow was falling at a rate of about 5-10cm's per hour quickly erasing the path the last train that went through made.

I could barely see this train coming as it's ditchlights seemed to be flashing as the snow obstructed them and I didn't hear this guy until it was right on top of me. The snow consumed any noise that was present making for a rather relaxing and unforgettable morning while on duty.

Japan has serious problems with the declining birth rate and actually there are few babies in a big city like Tokyo.

My simple question is what sort of adult they will be when small number of babies are raised in such modern and neat urban space.

Will they get the clarity of mind to solve every issue in a logical manner?

Background in this image is a public facility complex of Minato-ku which is the wealthiest ward in Japan. Minato-ku decided to support up to 600,000 yen (equivalent to 5,985 US dollars) for each childbirth in order that the expense of the delivery becomes free virtually.

Again I wonder to myself. Does this become one of the effective ways to stop the declining birth rate?

Thanks to everyone who took time to view, comment or fave!

It was quite the ordeal for this fellow to finely get into position. The female was definitely receptive and flew to different leaves until a suitable one was found.

POED at Dover, NH. New Years Day 2012.

As I cycle up Glen Shee from the Spittal of Glenshee the days out wonderfully bright as the morning sun lights the dramatic landscape around me. Unfortunately this isn't to last and the weather closes in the higher I climb towards Glas Tulaichean.

Glas Tulaichean is my 5th Munro of the season and the 28th in total, bringing me to a Munro completion rate of near enough 10%. The mountain stands at 1051 meters (3448 feet) and is the last one I will do as I have now moved away from Scotland and back to my roots in South Yorkshire as the pull of the Grandchildren was just too strong.

New England's wintry weather can be bone chilling and raw.

Thor's Hammer is a unique example of a hoodoo, formed by erosion procesesses of relatively hard rock overlaying softer, more erodible rock, such as sandstone. The harder more resistant caprock protects the softer underlying layers from frost, wind, rain, freezing and thawing so that the rate of erosion is slower than elsewhere.

30 to 40 million years ago the sandstone was "born" in an ancient lake that covered much of Western Utah. Minerals deposited within different rock types cause hoodoos to have different colors throughout their height.

The Ribeira do Moinho comes out of a small canyon on the North end of Flores Island in the Azores near the ruins of an old structure, probably a mill. The stream located in the parish of Ponta Delgada (Flores) originates on Morro Alto at an altitude of around 900 meters in an area of high rainfall. In addition to the runoff, it is fed by two springs, one in Pico da Burrinha and the other, the highest flowing one on Morro Alto, which is the highest point on the island of Flores. Though the flow was low on this day, during stormy periods because of its large drainage basin, Ribeira do Moinho can carry a lot of water. It has one of the highest average flow rates of all the streams on Flores. Its stream flows into the Atlantic Ocean near a place called Terra da Costa, between Ilhéu Francisco (east) and Ponta do Albarnaz (west).

Fomapan Action 400 has a quite different look and seems to be a suitable alternative for specific intensions and photographic subjects. This classic film emulsion delivers more distinct grain, more sooty dark tones and some blooming of the highlights, which can emphasize the mood of a picture favorably. However, the sensitivity of this film emulsion seems to be lower than box speed, because the shadows tend to lose detail.

The more distinct grain results from the cubic grain structure of the emulsion. In contrast to the softer grain pattern of the tabular grain of modern films like the Ilford Delta or the Kodak TMax film series, cubic grain is more apparent. The softening effect by overexposure is said to result from a poor anti-halation layer. The light bouncing around causes halos and glowing highlights, creeping into the darker areas and tending to wash out the highlights.

The darkening of the foliage and the shadows seems to pretend the higher contrast. Fomapan Action 400 has much more sensitivity to the red end of the spectrum than in the blue and green region, so to speak a built-in orange or red filter. As a result, green leaves and shadows in general come darker in tonality. However, the contrast and graininess can both be reduced by overexposure. Meanwhile, I expose Fomapan 400 at ISO 200 (rather than rating the film at box speed) to open up the shadows for showing more detail.

This film definitely has a unique look, which is much appreciated by many photographers. Together with its deep black and the glowing highlights, Fomapan Action 400 can produce the beautiful and timeless look of classic film emulsions, different from other b&w films and quite different from digital rendering. This film and a vintage camera seem to be a good combo.

The more the merrier...

A little know fact about me is that I used to be heavy-heavy in the hip hop game back in the 80’s. You could even say that I was one of the baddest in the game at that time. But alas that was ages ago. And although I’m no longer a record spinner I made some life long friends from my days as a battle DJ. And one of those friend is Dj. Rated R. Just tonight I had the pleasure of photographing him behind the scenes and live on the radio, the photos are to be used for his upcoming website. Watching him spin was both exciting and nostalgic as I recall being the one behind the ones and twos. Gosh those were the days! But hey I love my new love… the camera!

Tech tidbits: There was limited room so I couldn't use any lights and being the genius I am I left my speed lights at home so I just used my D300 on manual with the on camera flash and made it do what it do baby!
