Moltketurm on top of the Wiehengebirge near Porta Westfalica.
October waved goodby with sunshine and warm tempereratures and we used the perfect weather for an extended hiking tour on the Wittedindsweg, a crest trail on the Wiehengebirge from Porta Westfalica in the East to the Osnabrück area in the West. Before the sun went down we visited the most interesting spots of the Eastern part of the trail.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel! Let down your hair."
A sorceress locks Rapunzel in a remote doorless tower. The only way to get into it is for Rapunzel to let down her long hair from the skylight when called, so that the enchantress can climb up it and provide her with food.
A king's son, attracted by Rapunzel's beautiful singing, overhears her, imitates the sorceress's calling formula ("Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let me down your hair!"), pulls himself up to the beautiful girl and wins her love. When Rapunzel then blabs to the enchantress, she cuts off her hair and banishes her to a desert. Then the sorceress hides in the tower, waits for the king's son, lets him climb up to her by Rapunzel's braid, and frightens and mocks the prince to such an extent that in his despair he jumps from the tower, injures both his eyes in a thorny bush and goes blind. Lamenting, he now wanders through the world, until by chance he reaches Rapunzel's whereabouts and recognizes the girl by her singing. When her tears wet his eyes, he is cured of his blindness and leads Rapunzel happily home to his kingdom.

Image taken after blue hour and about 15 minutes into nautical twilight. Normally about 45 minutes before this shot was taken, they start to turn on the lights around the castle, but although I was set up and waiting, the lights never appeared. While I was waiting I was able to catch light trails of the snow plow as it slowly took it's time going up the service road to the top. The lights on the snow plow actually illuminated the surrounding landscape just enough to so I could capture an image. Although fairly grainy due to the thick fog around the castle, I was able to get a unique shot and it shows that even in the dark, the D850 has enough dynamic range to pull some level of detail from an almost totally dark image. Only LightRoom was used in the processing. I titled this Rapunzel's Light as there was one single light turned on in the near tower toward the bottom. I figured it must be Rapunzel signaling to her prince to come save her from the cold of the castle. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Theme: Portrait of a Fairy Tale
Rapunzel let her hair down from the tower so that the prince could climb up. She had been imprisoned there by an enchantress. She asked that each time the prince visited he brought some thread so she could escape by weaving a ladder. Grimm's Fairy Tales at Killerton.

Rapunzelklokje is inheems in Midden- en Zuid-Europa, rond de Middellandse, Zwarte en Kapsische zee. Rapunzelklokje komt op grazige, iets kalkrijkere, lichtere grond en in en langs heggen voor. In Nederland komt Rapunzelklokje voornamelijk in het oosten en zuiden voor. Ook is Rapunzelklokje elders in het land aan het toenemen, mogelijk vanwege verwildering uit inzaai. In België is Rapunzelklokje vrij algemeen in een groot deel van het land maar ontbreekt grotendeels in de duinen en polders in het westen van het land.

Ever wondered what your favourite Disney characters would be doing in quarantine? Today it’s Rapunzel! Unfortunately she’s all too used to staying indoors. So, I imagine her painting every inch of the walls around her... of beautiful scenes she can view from her window (mainly her most special moment spent with Flynn)
