Kei Tsuji is a Pro Tour photographer and Rapha Cycling Club member. “Because I’m a cyclist”. That’s the simple answer to the question I’ve been asked so many times about “how and why did you start photographing bicycle races?”.

"I understand the beauty, drama and severity of a race, and my role as a photographer is to capture it all – communicating all the drama and emotion to the viewer.”

Cyclocross in minus temperatures is a lung-searing experience. The Rapha Supercross Nobeyama is hosted each year on a working farm and horse ranch deep in the Yatsugatake mountains. It makes for a technical course with breathtaking views and unpredictable weather at an altitude of 1,345m.

Possibly the toughest Prestige in Japan to date took place over the weekend in the remote mountainous area of Kamikatsu, Tokushima, on the island of Shikoku. Famous for it's unspoiled mountainous landscape and zero waste mission.

With a contrast of falling cherry blossoms, almost 4,000 meters of climbing and the longest gravel road in Japan – 35 riders from across the globe pushed themselves beyond their limits on the beautiful but punishing course with only 7 finishing.

It's always a privilege to see work in print. I worked on a series of photographs in the new issue of Papersky with Rapha Japan documenting three cyclists exploring 'Their' Tokyo and what this city means to them.

GoGo, former Tokyo bike messenger captured in Shibuya for the Rapha Rides city project. “Being a messenger, I rode under the hot sun, in the shadow of clouds, through the night, the wind, and rain, even snow. For a decade, from one spring to the next I watched the city and its ‘air’ change. It’s not just the roads of Tokyo I experienced but Tokyo itself and it never failed to entertain me.”
