Went to some of my favorite places on Jæren last night, and as I wrote yesterday we got to see both lapwings, oystercatchers and coltsfoots for the first time this year.

 

On this spot there were lots of different duck species too. It's so wonderful standing in these surroundings and just watch and listen to all the birds and the waves.

I have too many cute seagull chick photos to edit now 😉 This is a lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus). I've just been outside by the sea where we live for a couple of more hours, finding even more newly hatched cute ones ツ

 

And finally I got to photograph an oystercatcher chick too today, like I've dreamed of. I found som newly hatched ones some weeks ago, but they were too little to be cute yet ; ) The one today were almost too grown up again, and really fast - but I got some cute photos of it ツ

Chickweed (Stellaria media) by the fields and forest where I grew up, last summer.

 

The flowers are very small, less than 1 cm in diameter.

 

This plant is native to Eurasia and naturalized throughout the world, where it is a weed of waste ground, farmland and gardens. It is sometimes grown as a salad crop or for poultry consumption.

 

It is found throughout Norway up to 1100 m above sea level.

two Assembly seats in Bhojpur first in 1990 and then again in 1995 -to counter the rise and assertion of the CPI(ML) as an pomical-electoral force. The earlier senas had tended to be more local, while the Ranve·er Sena's base was spread over almost the whole of erstwhile central Bihar The Ranveer Sena displayed an ideological cohesion and weA-defined political role that was distinct from the earlier senas. The Ranveer Sena's ideological det·t.to the RSS was pronounced, and it distributed leaflets for the BJP in elections -one such leaflet had been displayed by the then CM Laloo Yadav in the Bihar Assembly in 1996. It received political patronage and funding from a range of politicians across parties. Laloo Prasad, however. had no compunctions in sharing the stage with Ranveer Sena elements and, as he put it, in 'joining hands with the forces of hell to counter CPI(ML)'. Hence the frequency with which the banned Sena committed atrocities with impunity during RJD rule. .

Scuttling of Amir Das Commission .

It was the widespread outrage which followed the Bathani Tola and Bathe massacres which forced the RJD Government of Bihar to constitute a Commission headed by retired Justice Amir Das, to enquire into the political backing enjoyed by the Ranveer Sena. However, according to Justice Amir Das' own account, several administrative and infrastructural hurdles were put up and the Commission could start proper functioning only in 2001 . The Amir Das Commission enquired into 34 massacres committed by the Ranveer Sena. The politicians it inteirogated about th~jr financial patronage of the banned Sena and the political services they in turn received from the Sena, included many senior leaders of the BJP. JO(U), as well as of the RJD and Congress .

Significantly, one of the first acts of the Nitish Kumar Government when it came to power in 2006 was to scrap the Amir Oas .

Commission, which was in the final stages of preparing its Report. The motive for this hasty abortion was transparent -a large .

number of prominent BJP and JO(U) politicians w1th well-known Ranveer Sena links, who were likely to be exposed by the .

Commission, were now Ministers in the Government. .

Continuing Political Patronage to Ranveer Sena Elements .

The claim that Nitish Kumar has somehow 'changed the narrative' in Bihar away from 'caste war' to 'development' is also entirely mischievous. The Nitish Government's entire tenure has been marked by gross inJustices in the massacre cases and patronage of the feudal forces: by winding up the Amir Das Commission, by shielding Brahmeshwar Singh from trial and tater letting him out on bail; by letting the Ranveer Sena supporters wreak vi~lence on Oalits in Ara and Patna following Brahmeshwar's killing, and by going back on the promise of implementing the modest land refo rms proposed by the Government's own Bandopadhyay Land Reforms Commission. Even today, Ranveer Sena leader Sunil Pandey is the JD(U) MLA from Tarari in Bhojpur. .

But the battle for justice for Bathanitola and Bathe is clearly much bigger than the question of correcting a judicial wrong. It is a question of fighting for democracy in the present. The quest of the people of Bathe and Bathani for justice 1s an integral part of their broader struggle for social dignity and real democracy. and of their robust and comprehensive pofitical resistance to the forces of feudal and communal fascism. .

In an interview to a TV channel not long before his killing, Brahm~shwar Singh said he had been an RSS cadre since childhood and that he wished to see Narendra Modi as Prime Minister.·In 1SSI4, he had declared the agenda of killing the dalits in the womb. even before they were born, telling a senior journalist. In his 'Hunkar' rally in Patna recently, Modi was flanked by BJP :eaders CP Thakur and Sushil Kumar Modi, both oi ·.-.'"'J 'j are reportedly named by the Justice Amir Oas Commission. The 'hur.kar' heard in Bathe and Bathani sounded again in Gujarat 2002-the manner in which women and children were targeted by communal mobs in Gujarat was tellingly sim:J~r to the tactics of the Ranveer Sena. .

The struggles for justice in Bihar's Ranveer Sena massacres and Gujarat's 2002 massacre cannot be d1vorced from each other. It is about checking the feudal-communal marauders who have been strengthened by the politics of appeasement and impunity and now feet emboldened by such shameful judicial acquiescence. This is a battle that concerns not just the oppressed poor of Bihar but whoever cares about the future of India, a battle that we must wm .
