Random bits of scenery while driving around Oregon

Random

I came here at random,

Not guided by faith,

As pale as a phantom,

As wrought as a wraith.

I came here at random;

I'd not call it choice.

I might be an echo -

A wandering voice.

I came here at random

Across the expanse -

Is it bondage or freedom

Surrendered to chance?

I came here at random;

I took no advice;

I gave all my wisdom

To the roll of the dice.

I came here at random,

By the truth, by the dare.

The oracle took me,

And now I'm not there.

Poem by Giles Watson, 2013. Ten-minute poetry challenge, with Poets and Performers in Albany, Western Australia, 23/11/2013. The pictures show the wreck of the Elvie on Vancouver Beach, Frenchman Bay.

Random Thoughts for Valentine's day, 2004. The day's a holiday invented by greeting card companies, to make people feel like crap. I ditched work today. Took a train out to Montauk. I don't know why. I'm not an impulsive person. I guess I just woke up in a funk this morning. I have to get my car fixed. It's goddamned freezing on this beach! Montauk in February. Brilliant, Joel. Pages are ripped out, don't remember doing that. It appears this is my first entry in two years. Sand is overrated. It's just tiny little rocks. If only I could meet someone new. I guess my chances of that are somewhat diminished, seeing as I'm incapable of making eye contact with a woman I don't know. Maybe I should get back together with Naomi. She was nice, nice is good. She loved me. Why do I fall in love with every woman I see who shows me the least bit of attention?

Just a random flower. The wooden texture looked so thought of keeping it.

I participated in another randomizer art challenge in which I consult a randomizer app loaded full of elements of danger and intrigue and then create artwork utilizing 5 random elements. This time we got: Hornet, Dead, Petrified, Fire, and Temple. Normally, I’d explain my thought process in making my art but this time my instinct said to just let you work that out for yourselves.

We took a trip to the coast and Maizy loved standing half in/half out of the sliding glass door. When I sneaked outside to try and capture this candid moment I noticed the funny, random reflection. Unfortunately she noticed me and it was over.

Very randomly positioned on a dead-end stretch of track which extends some 50 metres in either direction. Being the first in the series, I assume it dates from when production commenced in 1959.

In PKP-speak 'SM' stands for '[lokomotywa] spalinowa manewrowa' (diesel shunter).

Apart from having been repainted, the loco has also been treated to a few additions – compare with the photo in the comments where it was in a rather sorry state in 2013.
