Pakistan floods 2010.
Ramzan, resident of Village Haji Abdul Rehman, photographed walking along the flooded road to Jhanghara village.
"They told us that the water won't recede. They frightened us and said -Leave your homes and go to the mountain-".
"Our houses collapsed. We have nothing to buy food, and we don't know what to do".
In Late July 2010 heavy monsoon rains led to massive flooding across large parts of Pakistan, affecting up to 20 million people.
ActionAid responded to the disaster immediately, working with local partners and communities to provide food, temporary shelter and items such as blankets and cooking utensils. Our long term response (continuing until end 2012) focuses on supporting people to rebuild their lives and livelihoods, and to become less vulnerable to future disasters.

Fatema Begum, 60, lives in Patarkhola village of Ramzan Nagar union at Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira with her son, daughter-in-law and their two children. Her son works as a day labourer at a nearby brick kiln. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, her son was rendered jobless for at least three months. During cyclone Amphan, her whole family took shelter at a nearby cyclone shelter. Later she found her room was devastated by the cyclone. She received cash support from UN Women in her mobile as a victim of natural calamity, which she used to purchase some fish fries, which she put in a pond, as well as fix her room and buy her medicines. The cash support has benefitted her immensely, and her life has improved like the pre-pandemic days.
