Hari Raya bazaar offers a feast for the senses
PUBLISHED: JUN 9, 2017, 5:00 AM SGT by Gurveen Kaur
The hipster invasion continues at the Hari Raya Bazaar at Geylang Serai this year, where young stall owners get even more creative in coming up with the most photogenic, exotic or unusual dishes to lure customers.
At this fair held during the fasting month of Ramadan, the rainbow food trend - where everything is made as colourful as possible - is not abating.
There are rainbow noodles and rainbow cheeseburgers (just the buns, thank goodness) and even something called the Unicorn milkshake, a pink drink topped with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, candy and a unicorn-shaped meringue. More exotic international options are also available. New offerings include melted raclette cheese on potatoes and cocktail sausages, Scotch eggs with Asian flavours, and smoke-releasing dragon's breath dessert.
Another trend at the bazaar is grilled seafood featuring the pricier members of the shellfish family, such as oysters, scallops and crawfish. There are at least five such posh seafood stalls.
These funky stalls are only the tip of the iceberg at the bazaar, considered the mother of all Hari Raya fairs. The market has more than 1,000 stalls, up from 800 last year. There are stalls selling clothes, home decor items and even cars.
The food section has more than 200 stalls. Besides the new "artisanal" stalls, there is traditional fare such as Ramly burgers, kebabs and ayam percik (grilled spiced chicken).
The bazaar stretches along Engku Aman Road, Geylang Road between OneKM mall and Geylang Serai Market and around Tanjong Katong Complex. It runs till June 24, the day before Hari Raya Puasa.

The nasi lemak was brilliant as always. 4 RM or 63p from the stall outside the HSBC bank on Jalan Ipoh.
The burger, cheese and egg were added at home.
Maybe it's the frozen variety, but Malaysia's iconic homegrown burger is appallingly foul-tasting and the horrific texture was like this.

All Malaysians and Malaysians-at-heart know what a Ramly Burger is. And if you don't, then you don't know what you're missing.
What you want is a "Special Cheese Daging" which is a beef patty topped with a slice of Kraft's Cheddar "plastic" Cheese wrapped in a well-seasoned (with Maggi Seasoning, of course) crepe-thin omelette.
You also get one small piece of lettuce, onions (raw or caramelised, depending on the stall's speciality) and a slice of tomato. You should not opt out of the sauce that go with the burger - a mix of Lady's Choice mayonaise and Maggi (Sweet) Chili Sauce. It's like Sloppy Joes. Be prepared to get messy.
However, the ultimate Ramly Burger experience is watching the cook prepare the omelette. It is as good as watching the prata man flip bread.

so while the queues for the new generation snacks / foods like watermelo volcano, rainbow bagel, ice cream macarons, s'mores dip . . . etc at the bazaar are long & longer, the ramly burger has to be on the list of the conventional must-eats at any bazaar.
Ramly Burger History
Burger Ramly started out in 1979 as a small family business operated from a mobile kiosk on Lorong Haji Hussin in Kuala Lumpur. The family recipe soon became a hit among Malaysians. The Ramly Burger is distinctive from most other hamburgers due to the unique way in which the ingredients are served. Rather than the usual method of stacking the ingredients within the bun, the patty in the Ramly Burger is first covered with the desired condiments, then wrapped in a thin layer of egg. The end result is packet-like and enhances the texture of the burger while simultaneously reducing mess from the condiments. The Ramly Burger served in this way is known as Ramly Burger Special.

My favourite buger. Beats the big Mac any time. So juicy that it was oozing with sauces with every munch, spilling to me fingers. Literally finger licking good!
First the patty, topped with cheese, then the eggs, followed by chilli sauce, brown sauce, vegetables and bun. When you bite into the burger Irresistable....
I only eat this one month in a year, during Ramadhan. Imagine the "SHIOK" factor having the first one in a year.
Malaysia's own Ramly burger consisting of: either a beef or chicken patty, onions, fried egg, cabbage, margerine, and a thick worchesteshire sauce. Tasty!

The Ramly Burger is a Malaysian burger created by Ramly Monikin and is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Though the term "Ramly Burger" may refer to any of the hamburgers sold in a Ramly Burger stall, it most commonly refers to the Ramly Burger Special. While the amount and type of ingredients vary greatly depending on location, a typical Ramly Burger consists of a beef or chicken patty, margarine, onions, an egg, cabbage, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce and Maggi Seasoning. This list is subjective, however, as Ramly Burgers are famous for being highly customizable.
After watching Wall-E, we decided to check out the night bazaar at Causeway Point and had a Ramly Burger for a snack.
he's the bomb. we tried burgers from a different cart elsewhere in KL and it was SUPER FAIL compared to this guy's!

Second burger of the night-
Ramly Beef Burger Special, RM4.8 (89p).
Verdict- it tasted better than the burger from the previous post.
