A bighorn ram with nice curling horns at rest under a large ponderosa pine trying to keep cool. He was deep in the shade with glaring light above him making for a challenging shot. He blended in so well I almost missed him.
Just another treat seen at the National Bison Range in Montana.
May your Thursday be terrific!

The curl of the horns on this ram indicate that he is an old-timer. He was seen at the Sauer-Beckmann farm, a part of the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park on the Pedernales River near Stonewall, Texas. Johnson was the 36th president of the United States and grew up on an adjacent ranch. The farm is a living history operation where raising animals, maintaining a vegetable garden and other farming activities are part of the daily scene. The day we visited, farm workers were canning vegetables.

This ram was alongside the Deer Creek Mill Road on a ranch inholding within the Great Sequoia National Monument boundary. I am not too familiar with hair sheep breeds but I think this may be an American blackbelly sheep which is a Barbados blackbelly crossbreed. Does any one know for sure? He certainly was a stout fellow who was originally standing in the road. He did not give way to my pick-up easily. For a while it was ram vrs Ram. He did finally give way but did not go far.
We are quite fond of the black rock Maine coastline. This day we had a view of Ram Island Lighthouse which is located south of Boothbay Harbor It is a thirty-five-foot-tall cylindrical tower, which consisted of a substantial granite foundation, a brick central portion (now painted white), and a cast-iron lantern containing an L. Sautter, fourth-order Fresnel lens. It was built atop an offshore ledge and linked to the island with a foot-bridge. The light was first shown in 1883. www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=502
I had about 30 seconds with this Ram. Just as I started to photograph him, a lady standing nearby said that she had seen three coyotes heading toward us. I never saw the coyotes but the ram either heard or smelled them and took off in a hurry down the steep slope.
