Markyate is a street village set along the bed of the River Ver and is surrounded by the hills of the Chilterns (Hertfordshire). Since water has the habit of following gravity, rainwater would accumulate at the lowest possible point, which is where the life of the village and that of the river intersect. The river bed is tiny and, inside the village, culverted too, which means that surface water would need a long time to run off. A rainstorm such as that hitting us last night will inevitably cause damage for those residents whose houses have been built in the flood plane. I have spoken to some of these residents and found to my astonishment that they were not aware of this fact. Had nobody told them? Fuji X100F.
When there is a very brief period of a different light and the world looks clean, fresh and rather special.
Incoming storms were fast developing during the golden hour as I drove down the road. Thankfully I was able to get a shot of the action.
Rainstorms can be frequent in the Harz, the highest mountain range in Northern Germany. It occupies an area of 859 square miles (2,226 square kilometers).

We're standing on the Island in the Sky mesa watching a light rainstorm move across the eroded plains through which the Green River cuts a path
I went into my garden after heavy rain and found this Bee soaked having taken the full force of the storm. Fortunately the sun came out and half an hour later it flew off.
It's easy to see just why the landscape is so beautifully lush and many rich shades of green on Kauai - we were there for one week and it rained a LOT. I was frantically trying to capture a few shots of this lovely lakeside scenery before the next torrential downpour....you can see the drops just starting on the water.

The various elements were definitely at war with each other on this Alaskan evening. The sun was doing its' best to not surrender the day, while a rainstorm exploded over the distant mountains. I remember having the feeling, that the Inner Passage is a place where all things are possible at any given moment.

A rainstorm is closing in very fast at Rossbeigh beach in County Kerry, Ireland.
It was very spectacular and severe but thankfully I was standing at the side of its path, so I didn't get soaked...

We’ve been having storms here in this region of the Country. This was Somerset Street during a very serious thunderstorm.

A chance finding at the end of an unmarked road, this isolated red boat house sits on the shoreline of a small tidal inlet. In the distance an arctic storm rolls through the surrounding mountains, fed by strong winds surging across the Norwegian sea. Taken in those last few moments of ethereal light before the sky darkened and the heavy clouds spat freezing rain in long staccato bursts across the sodden landscape, it’s one of my favourite images from our recent trip to Lofoten.
Technically imperfect, yes. But it transports me back to that time and place.
Have a great week, Flickrites.
