Artists Palette at Sunset at Death Valley National Park

Another destination for that day's hikes a friend and I walked in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park Service Complex. And it definitely was an amazing view with the water reflections and water lilies!

after camping at 4,326m (extremely cold) we climbed all the way to the top of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) at 5,020m.

Maunga Kākaramea, or Rainbow Mountain, is a geothermal mound about 25km south of Rotorua. Its peak, Tui-o-Rua, is a round plateau at 768m and is occupied by a fire lookout tower.

In Cusco, Peru, a little-known tourist destination but very frequented by mountaineers is the Rainbow Mountain Cusco, Apu Ausangate, in the Cordillera de Vilcanota (Andes). In order to understand how the colorful mountain was formed, we must first understand how the mountains are formed.

The rainbow mountain was ranked by National Geographic as one of the 100 places you must visit before you die, due to the beautiful colors. Cloudy days result in darker colors, whereas sunny weather will lend to lighter colors.

Palccoyo es un lugar increíble al atardecer. Es conocida por ser la montaña arcoiris y, aunque no aparezca en la foto, puedes ver cómo toda la cordillera está llena de colores cuando el sol cae al atardecer.

Peru - The trekking to get to the Rainbow Mountain (5100mt)

On our first tour to Ausangate we don´t see this amazing mountains because one of my travel companions had a small problem with the altitude sickness and therefore we had to descend early, so we decieded to come back one week later and try it again, and of course at the second time we made it to the top of rainbow mountains without a bigger problem and we will never forget this amazing adventure and this phenomenal landscape and view. We liked it so much.

The remarkable coloured mountains near the Ausangate peak and, behind us, the even more curious Rainbow Mountain. Conditions where not very good. But at least we reached this place just before sundown after a 3,5 hour drive from Cuzco and a pretty heavy 4 hour hike ....and enjoyed this place (almost) alone...:-) 5010 mtr. altitude.

Rainbow Mountain in Palcoyo, Peru

Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain 20221125

Palcoyo Mountain, also known as Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain, is a magical place and ideal to visit in a day.

Palcoyo Mountain is incredibly magical, as is the mountain of 7 colours.

Palcoyo is characterised by having several mountains of colours, as well as a stone forest that you can visit.

The destination for a hike in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park Service Complex...and what a destination it was! I'd heard from a fellow hiker that day how beautiful the setting was with the water lilies and reflections but seeing it was another thing! So that's what I attempted to compose by slightly angling my SLR camera downward for this look across the nearby grassy meadow to the water reflections and then mountains off in the distance. With the somewhat cloudy skies above, it brought out more of a "low key" feel to this lakeshore setting which I used to bring out the final image.

A beautiful, idyllic setting a friend and I came across on a bike ride from the Stehekin area in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area of the national park.

Yes, one of those picturesque views that anyone immediately recognizes whether walking, riding, or I guess even driving. I went back and forth in my mind trying to decide how to compose and meter this image. In the end, I decided to back up because I knew I'd want to have more of this setting in focus. I could then zoom in with the focal length. The daisies though would be the primary focus. Throughout this trip, I attempted more and more to use Manual mode to meter images as I found working the right exposure easier using the camera's settings. I later used some CEP filters (Low Key, Polarization and Graduated Neutral Density) in post-production with Capture NX2 which seemed to best bring out this look even with the late afternoon sunlight.

I was waiting for the traffic to subside before driving home , so i decided to go for a hike on rainbow mountain. I always wanted to find this spot, one of the best view of the resort!

Vinicunca, or Winikunka, also called Montaña de Siete Colores, Montaña de Colores or Rainbow Mountain, is a mountain in the Peruvian Andes in Cusco area. It has an altitude of 5.200 meters.

Over the course of my travels in the national parks in the western United States and Canada, I've been to and walked along the banks of many a river or creek with mountains and forest all around. This location in the North Cascades of the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and North Cascades National Park Service Complex did not disappoint either. Once again, I got a down low behind some daisies and used that as the focal point but had the aperture closed down to have a little bit of the backdrop somewhat in focus. I later used some CEP filters (Low Key, Polarization and Graduated Neutral Density) in Capture NX2 which seemed to best bring out look I wanted in a final image, even with the bright sunlight from the early afternoon.

I captured this at an small outcropping along the Stehekin Valley Rd while walking to the trailhead of the Imus Creek Loop. What I wanted to capture with this image was the look across the lake waters to the mountain peaks and ridges seemingly rising up. I later though cropped much of the foreground lake to bring out more of a panoramic feel to the final image...which I found better brought out a more prominent look to the mountain peaks.

We didn't take the donkeys to get up here, we hiked and it wasn't that easy with the high altitude. Our heads were throbbing, our lungs were begging for oxygen and our feet were aching but once we got up there , it was all worth it .

A view along the shore of Lake Chelan near the North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin. In the distance are ridges of the North Methow Mountains range with Rainbow Mountain and Tupshin Peak; McGregor Mountain is a little further back and slightly hidden in the clouds.

This was captured on a road in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in the North Cascades National Park Service Complex.

After doing some initial post-processing in Capture NX2, working to adjust contrasts and hues, I finished up by adding a Reflector Effects CEP filter to bring out an early morning look for the hours after sunrise.

A view looking to the east and seen from a small opening in the woods not long after starting a hike along the Agnes Gorge Trail. With the sunlight coming out through the clouds, I knew it would be a difficult capture what I perceived as a large dynamic range. By keeping my camera on a Manual mode, I was able to find a mean exposure that I could later pull the shadows out in Capture NX2. I finally used some CEP filters (Low Key, Polarization and Graduated Neutral Density) which seemed to best bring out look I wanted in a final image, even with the bright sunlight from the mid-morning.

Taken just north of Rainbow Mountain, the Richardson Highway runs between the base of the mountain and the Delta River. To find Rainbow Mountain, travel south out of Delta Junction. Definitely a sight to behold if you travel to Alaska.

...and a Mountain Backdrop. A view looking to the northwest while waiting for a bus ride to head further north into the national recreation area and national park. I wanted to capture that look across the lake waters with the sunlight bringing out that light blue color during those early morning hours. Nearby are some boats docked from the previous night, while far off were towering mountains with some blue skies and clouds.

Vinicunca, or Winikunka, also called Montaña de Siete Colores,

Montaña de Colores or Rainbow Mountain, is a mountain in the Andes of Peru with an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level.

Tourist access requires a two-hour drive from Cusco, and a walk of about 5-kilometer (3.1 mi) or three-and-a-half-hour drive through Pitumarca and one-half-kilometre (0.31 mi) a steep walk (1-1.5 hours) to the hill. As of 2019, no robust methods of transportation to Vinicunca have been developed to accommodate travelers, as it requires passage through a valley.

It is located on the road to the Ausangate mountain, in the Andes of Peru, in the Cusco Region, between the districts of Cusipata, province of Quispicanchi, Pitumarca, and the province of Canchis.

Having captured several images at this overlook along the Imus Creek Loop, I decided to use this and work on a black & white image in Silver Efex Pro 2. I was to use some color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image.

A view looking to the northwest while walking around the lodge area. What I wanted to capture with this view wasn't just the amazing view of mountains off in the distance, but kind of like a layered look where one would notice the nearby boat docks and then the eyes would be led further on to the lakeshore on the other side of Lake Chelan and then the mountains with the blue skies in wisps clouds above. In my mind it was the complete setting that I wanted to capture, not just the look of mountains.
