Rays of color burst out from a pulsing rainbow heart, celebrating creativity and diversity.
Rainbow Heart is an exploration of a new LEGO mosaic technique I developed using quarter circle tiles placed on top of a second grayscale mosaic underlayer. This technique accomplishes two goals: 1) The curved tiles can be used to better represent organic shapes, and 2) the grayscale underlayer shows through the negative space where the quarter circle tile does not cover.
This essentially increases the resolution of a 1x1 “pixel” of a LEGO stud in a mosaic allowing for smoother color blending and smaller mosaics than would be needed to achieve the same effect using only 1x1 studs. The quarter-circle tiles can also be rotated into the four different corners of each pixel, increasing the color availability exponentially.
I built this for LGBT+ Pride Month for the GayFOLs Pride Parade and for Tricky Bricks and Tips & Bricks Rainbow Build Challenge.
The build has around 4,500 pieces, uses every color of quarter circle tile that exists (except for metallic and dark tan—those are very rare), and was greatly aided by the LEGO DOTS product line.

Walking through Meersbrook Park on my way home from work the heavens opened. I took shelter under a tree for 10 minutes in the hope that the rain would stop. It didn't. I got wet. Very wet! Lol.
