One from the Archives.

It was 2006; I was intending on going to Hawaii for my birthday, sitting on the beach with an Umbrella Drink. The Mrs. however, being the adventure-seeking half of the team, says “why don’t we go somewhere a bit more exciting.” So, I find myself on an airplane for 13+ hours, that lands in Vietnam… and the adventure began : )

Angkor Wat, Cambodia:

Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. UNESCO has set up a wide-ranging program to safeguard this symbolic site and its surroundings.

When French explorers first discovered the overgrown buildings at the ancient capital of Angkor in the late 1800s, much of the area was completely covered by forest. In particular, the roots of strangler figs, kapok, and banyan trees aggressively encompassed the Angkor structures.

Scenes in the 2001 film “Tomb Raider,” starring Angelina Jolie, were filmed in and around Angkor Wat.

I retook the photo because you couldn't see all the details, here ya go!

Built for Eurobricks Factions

I just played through Tomb Raider Definitive Edition the other day it was quite a fun game that inspired a minifig Lara Croft to be made and in effect inspired a picture to be taken as well. I am really satisfied with how this shot turned out and I hope you all like it. I'll post the setup shot later and go into greater detail on how I took this so stay tuned...

EDIT: Here's that setup pic where I explain the shot

Rock Raiders: Rebirth

Finally added the finishing touches to this figbarf. If you guessed it was Rock Raiders, bravo to you.

I took a bit of a different route with the original set theme and added alien characters instead of the team being all human.

The idea of a more diverse group of explorers just seemed more fitting. As with other themes it's always been a 'Human Vs aliens' idea. But themes like life on Mars showed a more interesting and harmonious dynamic. It also gave me more freedom when designing the minifigures.

The overall look is rather gritty and punk like. Keeping some of the original colour schemes added a nice bit of vibrance.

I also to a leaf out of Brickstudios' book by creating some props and objects and also experimenting with classic minifigure faces for the human characters.

Tri-engined Northrop YC-125 Raider 48-8622 one of only two survivors of a total of 23 built, at the National Museum of the USAF Wright-Paterson AFB Dayton Ohio Mar 1999. At the time this and other exhibits were lined on a disused runway, but since this photo was taken all aircraft are now under cover with several new hangars having been built.

As used in the first 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' film.

The Tunnel Trekker is a small walker designed to work in tandem with a ground crew. It is armed with a mining laser to carve away slabs of rock for the crew to process, as well as an auto-cannon for fending off rock monsters.

My last one was kind of a mix between the truck in the movie and a real LG3000 Mercedes, so I cut the width down a stud, replaced the wheels, etc.

The Colonial Viper could not stay alone in the interstellar space.

So here is the Cylon Raider UCS, scaled to fit the Colonial Viper.

The model is made of 3253 genuine LEGO parts, for a total length of 66,5cm (83,1 studs) and a width of 45,0cm (56,3studs).

Instructions are available starting Feb. 2nd 2018 (326 pages pdf, with fully detailed step-by-step instructions).

Next up in my UCS-ification of the Rock Raiders sets is the Rapid Rider. This was a really fun and interesting build given its one of the smallest sets in the lineup. The part count have risen from the sets original 35 to a mighty 190 parts.

KC-130J from VMGR-352 "Raiders" on display at MCAS Yuma.

Here is my take on the classic Lego Rock Raiders set "4950". It aims to be somewhat of a "UCS"-version. With roughly 3 times for pieces than the original set had.

One important aspect here is that I kept the colors, which means no bluish-grays, only Gray and Light gray, which to some extend limits the amount of slopes available. On the contrary there are parts that came in Dark Gray but never Dark Bluish Gray, so it made for a very interesting build.

One of the fantastic Kenner original 12. The Tusken Raider was one of my favourite and mysterious characters from the Star Wars original film.

Truck? What truck?

Raiders of the Lost Ark has always been my favorite Indy movie due to all of the memorable scenes. One of these scenes is, of course, the truck chase. As you can see, I only included the main element of the scene: the truck!

Inside the cabin is room for a minifigure while also featuring a steering wheel. The spare tires featured in front of the cabin are attached with Lego pieces and can be easily removed (but not exactly easily replaced). On the sides, the soldiers are attached to the truck with neck brackets.
