Infrared heating elements of the VH series are suitable for surface mounting on the ceiling or can be suspended from the ceiling on cables using the VZS-VH cable suspension set. For the mains connection, the heating elements are equipped with a plug on the unit cover to match the loosely supplied cable and connection socket. The heating elements are supplied without a shock-proof plug and must therefore only be installed by a specialist. Stationary use, for temperature control in closed rooms with a maximum height of 4 m, preferably in living and working environments. For ecodesign-compliant operation, these infrared heating elements must be equipped with an external room temperature control (see Vitramo room temperature control).

Infrared heating integrated in plasterboard ceiling
The VH-I series of ceiling-mounted infrared heaters are produced as frameless glass elements in sandwich construction and are intended for installation in the ceiling panelling and therefore have a mounting frame that is inserted into the finished ceiling cut-out. The VH-I heating element is only "clipped" into this frame and additionally secured against falling down by wire ropes.

The infrared heaters of the VH-IB series are designed for integration in a concrete ceiling. They consist of the VZ-EG installation housing made of galvanised sheet metal for insertion into a semi-prefabricated concrete ceiling and a frameless, integratable infrared glass heating element of the VH-IB series. The VZ-EG recessed housing and the matching VH-IB glass heating element can each be ordered separately (depending on the progress of construction).

Insert in grid ceiling
Grid ceilings are widely used in public and commercial properties. For this area of application, Vitramo has developed special infrared heating elements with the VH series (VH06262), which can be inserted into the grid system as desired instead of conventional tiles.
The VH06262 panel fits exactly into system ceilings with the grid axis dimension of 62.5 cm. Another version (VH06060) for grid ceilings with an axial dimension of 60.0 cm is available on request.

Fastening the infrared heater with a wire suspension system
For higher rooms or e.g. exposed beam ceilings, Vitramo offers the option of suspending the infrared heating elements from cables. The ceiling brackets on the unit cover are fitted as standard with four M5 threads to enable the cables to be attached to the ceiling bracket. The heating element is mounted at a minimum distance of 180 cm from the floor. Since the mounting situation can vary greatly from case to case, the
ropes and mounting parts are not part of the standard equipment. They are available as accessories:

After hooking up the PEX tubing to the manifolds I attached the pressure gauge, closed the manifold valves and using a compressor pressurized the system to verify no leaks. No leaks!
In order to figure out what 2 ends of the PEX tubing were attached I blew pressurized air from the compressor into one tube to see which end it came out. Then I knew my tubing pairs to attach to the supply and return manifolds.

Infrared radiant heater creates local comfort
For a variety of applications on your terrace, balcony, outdoor seating area or loggia, Vitramo has the solution for your outdoor area. The Vitramo infrared radiant heaters with a visibly glowing heating medium as the heat source provide local comfort. The required amount of heat is easily regulated via Bluetooth app or infrared remote control. With the free smartphone app (Apple® from IOS 4.1 and Android), the radiant heater can be dimmed continuously from 0 - 100% by touch. The infrared remote control is included in the scope of delivery and switches the infrared radiant heater on and off in six finely tuned heating levels. In addition, several infrared radiant heaters (up to 6) can be controlled in parallel via Bluetooth app and remote control. The infrared heater has a built-in on/off main switch on the housing. The housing is made of high-quality aluminium. Housing colour alternatively white or black. The built-in quartz tube LowGlare provides pleasant light and, with a maximum heat output of 2000 watts, pleasant local comfort on approx. 8 - 12m², especially in spring and autumn. For a sufficient heating effect, the ambient temperature should be at least 15 °C. The heating time is 5 - 10 seconds, so that you immediately feel the pleasant heat radiation hitting your clothes and skin. The optimum installation height is approx. 2.2 to 2.5m. The safety plug for the socket (Schuko plug), cable length 1.80m 3-wire 1.5mm², ensures quick infrared heat through simple installation. Also included in the delivery is a mounting set including instructions for easy mounting on the wall. Only horizontal mounting on the wall possible. 2 years warranty. Drilling holes to run the PEX tubing I accidentally drilled into a previously run tube and sliced it right open. Awesome! I bought the appropriate PEX tubing crimper and joints and replaced the damage tubing. The damage tube is being held below the now repaired tube to show a before and after.
Efficient heating of cemetery chapel
Cemetery chapels or funeral halls are only heated on the morning of the funeral or a few hours before a funeral service. Otherwise, these rooms are unheated. With conventional convection heaters, only the air volume is tempered. The enveloping surfaces remain cold! When the mourners arrive, the expensively heated air escapes again through the open doors to the outside. Even during the funeral service, visitors to the funeral hall feel the radiant heat emitted by the heating elements.
The municipality of Kleingartach in Baden-Württemberg efficiently heats the new building of their cemetery chapel with Vitramo infrared heaters. The heating was very attractively suspended from the ceiling by wire rope. The experiences have been positive throughout. The infrared heaters are switched on in the morning before the funeral. Also during the funeral service the visitors can feel the pleasant heat radiation.
The products suggested for this purpose:
1) Ceiling heating elements of the VH series.
These are produced as frameless glass elements in sandwich construction. They consist of a 5 mm thick satinised ESG glass pane, colour RAL 9010 white, which is heated on the back by a heating layer that converts electrical energy into heat. The layer is glass-fibre reinforced and embedded in a plastic compound. The back is effectively thermally insulated and completed by an aluminium cover that also encloses the sides. The max. surface temperature is 190 °C. For ecodesign-compliant operation, these infrared heating elements must be equipped with an external room temperature control (see Vitramo room temperature control).

2) VC-A series dark radiators
These are for surface mounting on the ceiling or wall. The max. surface temperature is 360 °C at an ambient temperature of 20 °C. The infrared dark radiator can also be suspended from ropes. Fixed use, for temperature control in closed rooms with a maximum height of 5 m, e.g. also in funeral halls, mortuaries, chapels for mourning ceremonies. For ecodesign-compliant operation, these infrared heating elements must be equipped with an external room temperature control (see Vitramo room temperature control).

Pleasantly cosy in the guest WC with infrared heating
Infrared heating offers optimal possibilities in the guest toilet. Because regardless of whether you need a quick warmth when guests come to visit or you want to thermostat-control the temperature of the room for regular use - Vitramo has the right infrared heating for your application.
Often, for reasons of efficiency, it also makes no sense to extend central heating for a small guest toilet or for a bathroom that is only used temporarily or only for a certain period of time. And even in bathrooms that are not adequately supplied with heat by the existing heating system, the use of Vitramo infrared heaters is economical. The ecodesign-compliant Vitramo temperature control ensures comfortably tempered room surfaces in guest WCs and bathrooms at the individually specified time of use, irrespective of whether the devices in a room are currently operating or not. Remote control units with weekly clocks and adjustable daily schedules work in conjunction with radio receivers that switch the units on and off and, if necessary, with window contacts that interrupt the heating immediately when a window is opened. As long as the room is not in use, the controller integrated in the remote control unit maintains the selected basic temperature. Adapted to the user's daily routine, the temperature in the bathroom is then raised to the desired "comfort value" in time for an upcoming use.
The temperature of the surfaces in a room has a considerable influence on a person's perception of warmth. That is why Vitramo ceiling and wall infrared heaters work radiation-oriented and heat the surfaces in the room in such a differentiated way that they show no temperature differences or only slight temperature differences between them. The air in the room heats up evenly and almost without flow only when it comes into contact with these surfaces.

Efficient heating of a chapel
In the district of Miltenberg in Bavaria, a chapel built in the 13th century and renovated in 2011 is heated with Vitramo infrared heating. It is mainly used for occasional church services, events and weddings. With Vitramo infrared heating, it is possible to raise the rooms to a comfortable temperature in good time before use and otherwise keep them frost-free. For small churches, chapels or rooms that are used in this way, the use of more expensive conventional heaters is not worthwhile due to their short service life. The Vitramo VH10050 infrared heating elements, each with a connected load of 1,210 watts, are mounted on the historic wooden ceiling. They are controlled in accordance with the eco-design via a programmable room thermostat. The Vitramo infrared heating primarily heats the walls surrounding the room and the floor by means of radiant heat. Visitors also feel the radiant heat emitted by the infrared heaters during the time of use.

I framed a small wall section that I could attach the heating manifolds to. Here the wall is built but the manifolds haven't been attached. You can also see the 14 ends of PEX tubing that need to be attached.
Infrared heating in a wooden house
Vitramo infrared heating and an efficiency house in solid wood or timber frame design are a perfect match. Even in houses with a heating requirement of less than 30 kWh/m², it is no longer a question of how much heat to supply to the room, b
ut whether heat is needed at all. Inert water-bearing heat delivery systems are already ruled out as components for this low demand due to their poor controllability. In addition, water-bearing heating systems only work particularly efficiently in continuous operation. A boiler quickly reaches its limits in partial load operation due to the low volume flows. Better, on the other hand, are small-format Vitramo heating elements evenly distributed on the ceiling or wall, which quickly heat the inner envelope surface by means of radiation when required, while only supplying the room with as much heat as is absolutely necessary for people to feel comfortable in it.
The back of the Vitramo infrared heater is effectively thermally insulated and completed by an aluminium cover that also encloses the sides. This means that it can also be installed on a wooden ceiling. In new buildings, care should be taken to ensure that the wooden panels are dry and, if possible, contain only a very low level of residual moisture. The heating element is mounted at a minimum distance of 180 cm from the floor.
Can infrared heating with electricity be approved and is it economical?
The low heating requirements of efficiency houses, the low purchase costs and the eligibility for subsidies of the technical system concept make a rethink on the subject of infrared heating possible, sensible and attractive. In combination with a photovoltaic system, a domestic hot water heat pump or, alternatively, instantaneous water heaters and controlled ventilation with heat recovery, the Vitramo infrared heating system already wins the overall heating cost comparison in residential buildings according to the KfW Efficiency House Standard 55.

Highly efficient infrared radiant heater
You can easily achieve local thermal comfort in your loggia, outdoor seating area, on the terrace or balcony with the Vitramo infrared radiant heater VC-EH2000. As a heat source, the radiant heater with a visibly glowing heating medium ensures a longer stay outdoors, especially in spring. For a sufficient heating effect, the ambient temperature should be at least 15 °C. The optimum installation height is approx. The optimum installation height is approx. 2.2 to 2.5m. The required amount of heat is easily regulated via Bluetooth app or infrared remote control. Four runs completed between the joists. I've only lightly stapled the heat transfer plates in place. After the whole system is in I'll go back and finish stapling the aluminum sheets so they have good contact with the underfloor, add the reflective insulation and fiber glass insulation.

Heating properly in the transitional period
Spring is unpredictable - from late snowfall to almost summery sunny days, everything is possible. The temperature differences between night and midday vary greatly. It is precisely in these transitional periods that Vitramo infrared heating makes the energy-efficient difference. In spring, the sun's rays on large window surfaces on the south side provide a sometimes considerable supply of heat in the building. Especially in low-energy to passive houses, these solar gains can provide a large part of the required heat energy. Vitramo infrared heating is the right heating system for this because it reacts quickly. If the floor heats up uncontrollably due to the low winter sun, the underfloor heating system can only adapt slowly to the changing conditions due to its inertia. Efficient infrared heating of school auditoriums
In a school auditorium, the convection heat generated by radiators often escapes through the stairwell. Here, Vitramo infrared heating installed on the ceiling offers an energy-efficient and effective way of heating. The radiant heat warms the surface in the area of the seating groups in the assembly hall. The thermostat can be used to heat only at times when the auditorium is in use.
The Vitramo heating system is being used more and more in public buildings. Examples are fire stations, schools, public toilets, temporary accommodation, railway stations, kindergartens, clubhouses or offices in public administrations. Vitramo infrared heaters can also be used to heat individual sections of a room, such as reception areas or counters. The whole room does not necessarily have to be at a pleasant temperature. In public toilets, infrared heating installed on the ceiling also protects against vandalism.

This is why PEX tubing is so hard to work with, it twists. The outfit I bought the radiant system from was real light on installation instructions. The method they suggest sucks and you end up with these nearly impossible balls of twisted PEX that you are trying to snake through the holes you drilled in the joists. This particular roll/mess ended up with 3 kinks in it which were repaired.
These are first to joists that I tackled with the radiant heating retrofit. Here I've only installed one of the heat transfer plates.

Radiation-oriented Vitramo ceiling infrared heaters and wall infrared heaters heat sections of the room envelope in such a differentiated way that these show no temperature differences or only slight temperature differences between them. People's perception of warmth is not only considerably influenced by the temperature of the room air but also by that of the surfaces in a room. Every surface of a body, i.e. also a wall, emits a certain amount of heat energy as infrared radiation to the environment according to its absolute temperature and its radiation behaviour. All surfaces in a room are in permanent radiation exchange with each other. People also participate in this exchange when they enter the room. Since people in living spaces usually have a higher surface temperature than most other surfaces, they permanently lose heat, both through radiation and in contact with the room air through convection. If the temperature of a surface decreases, for example, because the surface belongs to an exterior wall that conducts heat outside in winter, the radiant power oriented towards the room also decreases.
Only radiant heaters can heat sections of the inner envelope surface in a differentiated manner so that they do not have any temperature differences between them or only have small temperature differences. The decisive factor for thermal comfort is the climate surrounding us in relation to the perceived temperature. In this context, the indoor climate is determined by the operative temperature, namely the mean value of the air and radiation temperature of the surfaces of the inner enveloping surface as well as the relative humidity and the air movement. The physical activity and clothing can be predefined for normal room use, so that only the data relevant for the room climate are included as variables for determining the comfort.
Infrared mirror heating for wall mounting
Vitramo infrared mirror heating elements of the VM series are produced as frameless mirror elements in sandwich construction. They consist of a 5 mm thick single-pane safety mirror, which is heated on the back by a heating layer that converts electrical energy into heat. The layer is glass-fibre reinforced and embedded in a plastic compound. The back is effectively thermally insulated and completed by an aluminium cover that also encloses the sides. The max. surface temperature is 80 °C. Infrared heaters of the VM series are suitable for surface mounting on the wall. Rectangular elements can be mounted both horizontally and vertically on the wall. The heating elements are supplied without a Schuko plug and must therefore only be installed by a specialist. Stationary use, for temperature control in closed rooms with a maximum height of 3 m, preferably in living and working environments, or mobile use with feet, for occasional use. For ecodesign-compliant operation, these units must be equipped with an external room temperature control (see Vitramo room temperature control).
