Thanks to Larry for the ID help. It is a female Racket-tailed Emerald (Dorocordulia libera)seen at the Gillespie Copp-Welch & Hinesburg Riparian Forest Trail.
This is the first time I see this species. The behavior description in the "Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Massachusettts" matches very well what I observed.
Seen in Temecula, California.
Someone in the industrial area of town had a spark of creativity and decided to make a rocket ship to nowhere.
