Je pátek, pátá hodina ranní, a já se nacházím na hlavním nádraží. Jsem zde předčasně, abych si mohl před mým odjezdem, vyfotit třeba nějaké zajímavé vlaky. V tu dobu se mi zrovna do rukou dostal Pepin 371 005-0, který jel na spoji R698 Labe.

Once a common sight, now all but a memory. Stagecoach 16698 (R698 DNH) is photographed along Trafalgar Way, Daventry with the D2 from Northampton. The Olympians will no longer be seen on this service, as all 4 that remained at Northampton have now been withdrawn.

Leaving Northampton bus station working service 7 to Moulton Park is (R698DNH 1668) a 1998 Volvo Olympian with Alexander RL bodywork of Stagecoach Midlands one of only four Volvo Olympians remaining in service at the Northampton garage.

I had a brief yet pleasant chat with the driver of the prceeding 11, but thankfully, Stagecoach 16698 (R698 DNH) did not pull into the stop along Lodge Road, Daventry, allowing me to get a shot, other than a front-on one! I did get another chance of the 11 a short whil later, but got bowled on that! 13th April 2016
Use of Volvo Olympians on Northampton town service 2 is less common these days, but on 1st April 16698 (R698 DNH) had a turn, and is pictured at Rectory Farm on a return journey to the town centre.

Rovers of this shape have become quite rare now, and this is a relatively old one. I expected it to be a long term owner car with it's disabled badge and well cared for appearance but it changed owners in 2019. It's only done 28,000 miles although surprisingly it failed one MOT on a wheel bearing at only 11,000.
Presumably a factory registered car initially with it's Birmingham plates but it's dealer plates are from Beadles of Sidcup on the Kent/London boarder. Beadles must have been quite big dealers as I've seen other cars from there.

This was a close call! I was waiting for the D2 from Northampton, which today, was 16698 (R698 DNH) As it came into view by the roundabout, I heard a nasty sound of an Enviro coming from behind! I turned around to realise my fear, and I knew I was going to get bowled, especially as the driver seemed to slow down, and was gesturing to me politely! I hope I didn`t appear too rude, but I made it known that he was going to ruin my shot of the Olympian, and the driver sped off, thus avoiding bowlage, and making this unique scene along Admirals Way, Daventry. The Northampton bound D2 is 37068 (YY63 YRW) and must have been at least 10 minutes late, as their paths never normally cross.

A bit of a balls up on the application of the bodyside advert! It is supposed to be for the Movie Triple 9!
Anyway, here we see Stagecoach 16698 (R698 DNH) on route 50 in Scum Valley, Northampton. I had been waiting for the 13:18 and 13:28 off the drapery closer to town near Jimmy`s End, but both 16696 and 16699 turned up pretty much together, along with a cloud. So, a chase to Scum valley ensued. Sadly I got bowled on 696 by a sad and vulgar B%W. Not to worry, 698 was my main target, so I let 696 go to get this.
The skies were clearing nicely, so after this, back to Brackmills to 'hopefully' get the other Country Lion Citybus, and the Olympian I was clouded on yesterday. I was clouded on the first 5 deckers, despite the sky at this point being 95% blue. Stupid hobbies.

Stagecoach 16698 (R698 DNH) is photographed as it is about to leave Oxford Street, Daventry, on the way to the bus station, after which it will continue it`s journey to Northampton on D2. The building in the background is the former Wheatsheaf Hotel, now a nursing home.

At last an Olympian again on the 89! First of three double deckers on the 89 13:39 Northampton-Milton Keynes, 16698 was followed by Trident 18407 on the 8th and Enviro 15448 on the 9th.
The Olympian fleet in Northampton has increased by one with 16459 coming in for a short term...here in dull damp weather one of the old stagers R698 DNH is seen in The Drapery on service 50....Dec 10 2015

Having worked the 13:28 50 to Swan Valley, ran empty to Brackmills to pick up the 53 to Weston Favell. The last day I saw all four Olympians out in normal service.
Stagecoach Olympian 16698 (R698 DNH) is seen for the second time today working route 50 along Harvey Reeves Road, Northampton. Earlier in the afternoon, the skies were almost black, but the sun was shining through a large hole, with a small cloud in the middle of the hole. sadly, the bus passed 5 seconds too early, the small cloud in the large blue hole covering the sun for a few seconds too many, and swearing could be heard. After watching the Cobblers beat Oxford 1-0, I returned, and tried again, this time with more luck, but sadly, no dramatic sky this time.
Other points to note include the building to the left of the silver car, which is now a fabric trader. I used to work here in the early 1990`s for a while, although it wasn`t fabrics or textiles back then! Another thing to note, which links back to the cobblers, and todays protest during the game. It seems a certain chairman is advertising his latest movie on the side of the bus!!!! 12th September 2015
I messed this shot up the other week, so was chuffed to get it in the bag today, although it did look like I was going to get done by traffic. However, the nice driver behind the wheel let the junction clear up, before turning into Speke Drive, Daventry, as it heads towards Lang Farm with the D2. Sadly I got done on my last planned shot of the day, due to cloud, but 3 out of 4 is good enough, even for me!
