What is it that you are fighting for? Is it just yourself, or is it something larger?

We hear all the time how important it is that a business base everything it does around its mission statement. When it does this every step of the way it creates employees who are no longer working for them, and customers who are no longer just buying their products, instead, employees who are working towards and customers who are buying that bigger purpose. If the goal is only making money then we have lost before we ever got off the starting line.

But the same needs to hold true for each one of us. We need to have our own mission statement in life; we need to have a reason for which we fight and work so hard each and every day.

Our personal mission statements will be unique, diverse in so many different ways. But what needs to hold true for each one them, what needs to transcend the universal mission that we all must strive for is fighting for everyone’s freedom.

No one is free if there is even just one who is not. We need to utilize the time we have and the skills that we have been given, and continue to cultivate, in the pursuit of helping those who need help most. We need to help those who may appear on the outside to be voiceless, but who in all actuality are screaming for justice.

Every day we have an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us and we never get out of the starting blocks if we wake up just thinking about ourselves. We are not defined by the amount of decimal places on our paycheck, we are defined by what we do in the face of great adversity, in the face of great injustices.

We are just as much a part of the problem if we are standing on the sidelines while we watch others have less than us just so that we can live a comfortable life. The person who watches the injustice occur may as well be the one who creates the injustice in the first place.

Prison is a scary thing. If we lose all sense of freedom, if we lose the ability to control our own destiny, who are we? No one wants to be so devastatingly controlled, and yet, many continue to watch as the freedom of others are stripped down by the world around us.

There was never a more important time to fight for justice than right now. Create a life worth living, a life that you are proud to share with your children, by basing all that you do around that bigger purpose, around your personal mission statement.

When you do this, you are no longer working for yourself, you are working for others. And it is when our mission statement aligns with those around us that we are able to make a movement for positive change, a movement for universal justice and freedom.

Fight for justice, fight for one love.
