The quotation on the poster is from the broadcaster Peter Clayton (1927-91), while presenting his Sounds of Jazz radio show sometime in the mid 1970s; speaking of pianist, band leader and composer Count Basie (1904-84), Clayton described his legendary economy of playing with the phrase 'He never played one note when none would do'- a lesson for most musicians, and a nice summing up of how we like our typography.
The wood type chosen for this particular print was chosen for its similarity to the legendary Blue Note label's typography. This two-colour poster was printed by hand on Naturalis Soft White Matt 120gsm paper, on our FAG Control 525 proofing press at our workshop in London, and was signed and numbered by the artists in a total edition of 100.

After withdrawal in 2004 it passed via Ensign to Gillingham Football Club and was converted to a promotional vehicle with a trailer. It was subsequently acquired by McCains in 2007 and was converted into 'The Potato Bus', which travelled extensively around the country promoting McCains and explaining the story of the potato to school children,most of whom did not know that chips were made from potatoes ! It was acquired by Rydale Folk Museum near Pickering in October 2010. Following an enquiry from Keith Kitching of Scarborough it was acquired by the NEBPT in April 2012 Is that a large air-con unit ?

From a file of documents rescued from a skip at Traction House, Motherwell (the head office of the Central SMT) some 40 years ago. In 1948 companies that were nationalised were busy valuing their assets and so Central SMT were busy corresponding with numerous chassis and body manufacturers to gain quotations for vehicles in their fleet.
Associated Equipment Company were a spin off from the old London General bus company after London Transport were formed in 1933 but they supplied the bulk of London's bus fleet for many decades and were based in Southall, west London. This letter, from their Glasgow sales office, speaks of two variations of the Regent Mark III chassis - the 9612E with fluid transmission and the 9612A with a 'crash' gearbox. CSMT noted in other correspondance they'd go for the crash gearbox style. Given the date is mid 1948 the delivery date (if ordered) was given as nealry 18 months a way, an indication of the sheer volume of post-war orders bus builders had as operators attempted to up date fleets after years of austerity and war time.

On Monday 20 May 2024, Julian Assange attended the Royal Courts of Justice in central London to face a crucial appeal hearing against his extradition to the United States where he faces up to 175 years in prison for the crime of reporting the truth about US government crimes, particularly war crimes during Washington's so-called war on terror. The two judges did not appear to be convinced by United States assurances that Assange would be allowed First Amendment protections nor assurances that he would not face discrimination as a non-US citizen, and he was granted leave to appeal the extradition.
