Houdin writes: "A magician should try so much the more to make himself known, that he cannot divulge his address without doing himself a disfavor."
Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin was a French magician who is considered the father of the modern style of conjuring. He took pride in exposing "fakes" and contrived mechanisms to produce remarkable illusions. Harry Houdini took his name from the inspiration provided by Houdin.

The inspiration for the Al-buraq, according to T.W. Arnold (1965: 119), was drawn from many pre-Islamic representative traditions in western Asia, including the centaur of Babylon, the 'man-headed bulls' of Assyria and the Sphinx.

At the IPSE photographic workshop run by the photographer Clare Strand, she got us to cut up magazine photos into small pieces. We sorted them into interesting and not-interesting piles until we got to just one picture. Then we chose a quotation to go with it.

Ft. Vancouver High School Library Media Center -- Margaret Mead quotation: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world."
Two sets of inappropriate quotation marks for the price of one! So, basically, if you see something that really belongs on the floor, don't pick it up? OK.

Quotation: Too Many!
Lola: "Mom, what's your favorite quotation?"
Mom: "That's tough; I probably have a lot of favorites...'Ask not...'"
Lola (interrupts): "And how are you going to take a picture of me that fits in with that? Stop looking confused, Mom! Think of something that makes you happy."
Mom: "I was thinking of a song I really like by Gerry Rafferty. I hadn't heard it for a long
time until recently. That it's come back to me makes me happy because I really appreciate the words more..."
"Out on the street I was talkin' to a man
He said, "There's so much of this life of mine that I don't understand"
You shouldn't worry, I said, that ain't no crime
Cause if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time.
You need direction, you need a name
When you're standing in the crossroads every highway looks the same
After a while you can recognize the signs
So if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time.
Life is a liar, life is a cheat
It'll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet
No use complainin', don't you worry, don't you whine
Cause if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time.
You gotta grow, you gotta learn by your mistakes
You gotta die a little everyday just to try to stay awake
When you believe there's no mountain you can climb.
If you get it wrong you'll get it right next time."

The Enneagram shows us where our personality most "trips us up." It
higlights both what is possible for us, as well as how self-defeating and
unnecessary many of our old reactions and behaviors are. This is why,
when we identify with the personality, we are settling on being much less
than who we really are.

I chose crocuses from my garden for this, as I think the early flowers in my garden bring hope after the dreary winter weather.
