Quiksilver PRO 2017.

Painted in 1996 with Logik AKB at a local underpass along a walking/bike trail. Freestyle but based off of some recent simple sketches I was doing at the time. This was definitely one of my favorites from that era. I don't really know why. I was doing a lot of all out fills and shit and I just got back to basics and really liked how this one came off. I wrote next to it, "Were not gangs, Just artists" mainly due to the nature of where this piece was placed. I had done a few pieces within this vicinity and a simple story had gotten written up in a local paper, calling us out as a bunch of gangs that were entering the area and basically fucking shit up. Some of it was true, I can't lie but for the most part, they were off. They actually had what we were doing and some actual gangmembers work, all mixed in together. It was just more of that bullshit propaganda that the media likes to feed to the mindless idiots who believe what they read. I just wanted to set the story straight. I hit that up on a couple pieces I had done in the area. I never really was ever one to try to use graffiti as a tool of intimidation. I understand the marking of turf and all that shit but there comes a point when you just have to actually open up your eyes and see what the fuck you are doing to your community. What's funny is, I know a lot of really up ass writers that will spend a lot of time fucking up someone else's neighborhood but when it comes to someone painting in their neighborhood, they get all butt hurt. I just laugh. It's such a double standard. I remember this book that came out about 10 or so years ago by this guy named Upski. It was called, "Bomb the Suburbs". A real tight read at the time and one of the first real viewpoints that gave it straight. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone out there to check out. My man Emer actually got a little blurb or two in there, as well. Another fucked up thing about this photo, it was the best one that I had taken that night. My man Logik had been able to come back the next day to get some real clean and nice day shots. I was real happy to get my copies from him because this and most of these silvers I rock, are in really visible and up spots that get buffed by the city real fast. This one was no exception. I think it lasted all of 3 days tops. So, his day photos were a real nice thing to have. I only had one that was a great straight on shot. When AKB was making the A to B book, I was asked to submit like 30 photos for the book. I sent in all my originals. I mostly traded away all of my backups back in the day, so I didn't have any spares. I gave the guys putting the book together, strict orders not to lose any of them. When I got my package back about 3 months later, I was missing 3 dope photos. The good one of this piece was one of them. I was quite pissed and hit everyone up to see if they got it by mistake. Noone seemed to have it. So, this is now the best one I have. It sucks and I learned a valuable lesson. Never send out your originals. Always get copies made. You just can't trust anyone with your albums or sketch books, etc..... The Times!

Even just reading the word evokes a waterfall of thought. Wine. Cheese. Casual nudity. Croissants. Edible snails. More wine. Etc. Some of it’s cliché. Some of it’s correct. But all of it weaves together to create a mystique like nowhere else on earth.

We’re bringing the whole crew together to experience it all. Surfers, skaters, snowboarders, musicians and more. From Mike D of the Beastie Boys to Mike Feb of South Africa, we’re setting out to enjoy true France. We’re using ideas as our maps, inspiration as our atlas, and legends like Jeremy Flores as our eyes and ears. We’re going to do it right. And you’re coming with us.

This one hasn't seen light for a very long time now. Finally out for some sun.
