While today (9/11/10) is a day of remembrance for our country, I'd also like to remember the birthday of my dear friend Liz. Hope you enjoy your day, Liz!

Jag vet att du sover
Känner värmen från din hud
Bara lukten gör mig svag
Men jag vågar inte väcka dig nu
Jag skulle ge dig
Allting du pekar på
Men bara när du inte hör
Vågar jag säga så
Jag kan inte ens gå
Utan din luft i mina lungor
Jag kan inte ens stå
När du inte ser på
Och genomskinlig grå blir jag
Utan dina andetag

This is one of the young men I shared a campsite with at the Mission Folk Festival,. He was taciturn and reflective...this image captures that, I hope!
Most of the time, I take photos of scenic places devoid of people. While that is preferable most of the time, now and then it's nice to have a human subject in a frame. This man walked away from the nude sunbathers and moved down the beach to the south. He sat alone for a while, quietly taking it all in, and enjoying the waves, rather than looking at people in various stages of undress. I didn't think much about it at the time, probably because I was a little unnerved by the nudity, but afterwards, thinking about it, I realized that the draw to the beach- even one like this where people go au naturale- is, was, and always will be the BEACH, not what you do on it.
Beaches are fun, and they are a place to socialize, or sunbathe, or surf, or swim. For most people, though, I think beaches are a place of quiet solitude, where nature overwhelms the senses, and makes cares wash away. Looking at the ocean, it's hard to waste thoughts on things which are of lesser stature and importance. It is so vast, so deep, that it seems to add that quality and dimension to our own thoughts, and somehow, to our very being.
The ocean is alive, and it feels like home. We came out of water before birth, and it seems we return to it along the way, somehow longing for its comfort, and strength. The ocean makes us feel small, and yet at the same time, it magnifies all those quiet thoughts, and what was insignificant, suddenly becomes significant. Like a mother, the sea surrounds us with its strength and beauty, and we feel more like ourselves there than anyplace else.
UPDATE: Believe it or not, the man in the photo actually contacted me! He was looking for pics of New Smyrna Beach, and as he waded through them, he happened on this one and was very surprised to see himself in it! What are the odds, huh? I asked him if he was okay with the shot being public, and he was. He also made it quite clear that the things I said above WERE pretty much how he felt about the day and his reason for being there. He made sure to let me know he wasn't some kind of pervert, lol!
I don't think I would ever go to a beach and sunbathe nude, though I'm sure it must be a remarkable and freeing experience for those who can work up enough nerve to do it, but at 57 years old, even if I was in great shape, I don't think I'd be anything anyone would really like seeing, and certainly, I would be far too self-conscious to do it! The way I look at it, if I can take a candid shot of a man on the beach and he can find it, out of millions of beach uploads, with MY luck, my nephews would just happen to be at the beach that day or something, and I'd be mortified! I tend to view beaches as places for photography these days. Even the swimsuits don't get it anymore!
I think most people who like nude sunbathing do it because they like the free feeling, not because they want to see a bunch of other naked people on the beach. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that way. The problem is, most of the people there who AREN'T nudists are there for the wrong reasons....Let's just say, most wouldn't have deleted the naked people pics once they got home! Nudists seem not to be there to LOOK, but rather, to EXPERIENCE nudity for themselves. It's probably a rare sort who can remain unaffected by it, though. For most, there's a sense of crossing a line, and it's not a pure act for them. I have to wonder sometimes, if our culture were more like that of some African tribes, or South American Indians, who spend most of their lives mostly naked, if it would be such a big deal to us anymore. Our emphasis on the physical makes it so distorted and gives such importance to outward appearances that the real people we are don't seem to matter as much. It's kind of sad.
I'm glad I got to meet the man in the photo, at least online. Sometimes our photos can be contrived creations, where our emphasis is creating a good composition, and not really being so concerned with what was going on behind the scenes. The person in the photo is a real man with a name.

In this short reflective monologue, Sindy explores when and why being present began to feel like effort instead of instinct. A quiet meditation on attention, distraction, and what it means to truly be here in a world that constantly pulls us elsewhere.
SCRIPT:
There was a time when being present didn’t require instruction.
You were just there — in a room, in a moment, in your own body.
Now presence feels like a skill you have to relearn.
Something you practice instead of something you inhabit.
We sit with our thoughts while checking something else.
We listen while preparing to respond.
We rest while feeling behind.
Maybe presence didn’t disappear.
Maybe it just stopped competing well with everything asking for us at once.
And maybe effort isn’t a failure —
it’s the quiet signal that something simple is trying to survive in a louder world.

What does progress actually feel like on an emotional level?
In this short, reflective monologue, Sindy explores why progress often feels quieter and more uncertain than we expect. Instead of excitement or clarity, emotional progress can feel slow, unfinished, and easy to misinterpret.
A calm, non-utopian reflection on change, meaning, and how progress is experienced in real life.
SCRIPT:
Progress isn’t always exciting.
It doesn’t always feel like momentum
or relief.
Sometimes it feels uneven.
Quiet.
Almost disappointing.
We expect progress to feel obvious—
like improvement,
like clarity,
like arrival.
But emotionally,
progress often feels like uncertainty.
Like letting go of something familiar
before the replacement feels solid.
It can feel slower than expected.
Less satisfying than promised.
And because it lacks drama,
it’s easy to miss—
or to mistake discomfort
for failure.
Maybe that’s why progress
doesn’t always inspire confidence.
Not because nothing is changing—
but because emotionally,
change rarely feels finished
while it’s happening.

Is pessimism easier to maintain than optimism?
In this short, reflective monologue, Sindy explores why optimism can feel harder to sustain in an uncertain world. While pessimism protects itself, optimism requires renewal, participation, and the willingness to stay engaged with a future that isn’t guaranteed.
A calm, non-utopian reflection on hope, meaning, and the emotional work of looking forward.
SCRIPT:
Pessimism has momentum.
It protects itself.
If things go wrong, it was right.
If things go right, it stays cautious.
Optimism is different.
It has to be renewed.
Reconsidered.
Chosen again after disappointment.
It doesn’t ignore risk—
it just refuses to let risk
be the only story.
And that makes optimism fragile.
Not naive,
but exposed.
It requires memory—
remembering that progress has happened before,
even when it’s slow,
uneven,
or easy to miss.
Maybe pessimism feels easier
because it asks less of us.
And optimism feels harder
not because it’s unrealistic—
but because it requires
continued participation
in a future
that hasn’t proven itself yet.

Is emotional safety helping us—or quietly limiting how deeply we feel?
In this short, reflective monologue, Sindy explores the tension between emotional safety and emotional depth. While protection and boundaries matter, some emotions only emerge when there’s risk involved.
A calm reflection on vulnerability, feeling, and modern emotional life.
SCRIPT:
Emotional safety matters.
Being protected.
Being respected.
Not being exposed unnecessarily.
But safety also narrows the range
of what we’re willing to feel.
We learn to stay measured.
To speak carefully.
To avoid emotions
that might make things messy
or unpredictable.
And over time,
depth can start to fade—
not because we feel less,
but because we allow ourselves
less room to go there.
Some emotions only exist
when there’s risk involved.
Love that could be lost.
Honesty that could cost something.
Emotional safety protects us.
But emotional depth
often asks
what we’re willing to feel
without guarantees.

Very far behind in posting... I still have pictures from my trip to upload... more pics coming soon.
Many of our memories now live in photos, posts, and curated highlights. What we save, revisit, and share begins to shape how we remember our own lives.
In this short spoken-word reflection, Sindy explores how curated memory may influence identity itself. When certain moments are preserved and others fade, the story we tell about who we are can quietly change.
This isn’t about nostalgia.
It’s about noticing how memory and identity evolve together.
SCRIPT:
So much of our memory lives outside of us now.
Photos.
Posts.
Highlights we choose to save.
We don’t remember everything —
we remember what gets captured.
What gets shared.
What gets revisited.
Over time, those moments start to shape the story we tell about who we are.
But curated memories are selective.
They leave things out.
And that makes me wonder…
if our memories are being edited,
are we slowly editing ourselves too —
becoming the version of us
that’s easiest to remember?

We’re constantly surrounded by input — messages, content, notifications, and screens competing for attention. But emotional depth often needs space to form.
In this short spoken-word reflection, Sindy wonders whether constant stimulation reduces our ability to feel deeply. When emotions are interrupted before they can settle, feeling something may become brief instead of meaningful.
This isn’t about disconnecting completely. It’s about noticing what uninterrupted space allows us to feel.
SCRIPT:
We’re surrounded by input all the time.
Messages.
Content.
Sound.
Screens.
There’s always something asking for attention.
And I wonder what that does to how deeply we feel.
Emotions usually need space.
Silence.
Time to settle.
But when one thing replaces another instantly,
feelings don’t get a chance to sink in —
they just get brushed past.
So sometimes I ask myself…
does constant input make us more stimulated —
or does it quietly flatten the depth
of what we’re able to feel?

We share more than ever — our thoughts, our photos, our lives in real time. But does being seen actually bring us closer?
In this short spoken-word reflection, Sindy questions whether constant sharing creates genuine connection or simply increases visibility. Recognition, reactions, and followers can give the illusion of closeness, even when real understanding is missing.
This isn’t about rejecting connection. It’s about asking whether visibility and connection are really the same thing.
SCRIPT:
We’re more connected than ever.
Or at least… that’s what we’re told.
We share our thoughts.
Our photos.
Our lives — in real time.
But sometimes I wonder if being seen is the same thing as being known.
Visibility can create the illusion of closeness.
People recognize us, react to us, follow us…
without actually understanding who we are.
Connection takes time.
Presence.
Attention.
So maybe the real question is…
are we actually becoming more connected —
or are we just getting better at being visible?

Does gaining more knowledge actually make life easier—or does it quietly increase the weight we carry?
In this short reflective monologue, Sindy explores whether awareness brings responsibility or anxiety, and why understanding consequences doesn’t always lead to clarity. A calm, philosophical look at knowledge, moral weight, and the cost of seeing more than we used to.
This isn’t advice. It’s a moment of reflection on what it means to know—and what that knowledge asks of us.
SCRIPT:
The strange thing about knowing more
is that it doesn’t always make decisions clearer.
Sometimes it just adds weight.
When you understand consequences, patterns, systems—
you don’t get the comfort of simple choices anymore.
You start seeing how everything connects.
And that can feel less like responsibility
and more like anxiety.
But maybe the point of knowing more
isn’t to feel calm.
Maybe it’s to stop pretending we didn’t see it coming.
Because ignorance can be peaceful—
but awareness asks something from you.
Not perfection.
Just honesty about what you now know.
