I wasn't sure if there was a collective noun for umbrellas so was delighted when Madame Google gave me 'phalanx' to my query. This was seen during a walkabout in Nice. Obviously I absolutely love the riot of colour.
Tra vaguely recalled that strange tequila bar off the side of the road..the drunken cats and the flies who buzzed the motheaten donkey's ears to make him play the maracas...did that happen?

Found this beautiful mural called "After all, Strangers again" by Matthew Dawn in Ghent, Belgium.

Living in France I'm a bit out of the loop for knowing whether it's Pride or not but I was reminded last night from a very lovely Flickr friend in London who queried whether I would be celebrating Pride in France as it was taking place this weekend in London. Sweltering summer days on the upper Texas coast present serious challenges for bird photography though there are still some nice opportunities for the persistent. After a quiet morning of searching the Anahuac NWR we were blessed with an afternoon storm that provided some welcome shade and a comforting breeze. Not long after the clouds appeared, we heard the familiar wichity-wichity-wichity song of this Common Yellowthroat coming from a clump of reeds along the auto-loop. It seemed like an opportunity worth investing in so we waited, watched and listened with cameras at the ready. Like hungry cats we watched our query noodling around in the dense vegetation for what seemed like an eternity. It was tempting to abandon this bird for a better opportunity though opportunities had been few and far between all day. Eventually our investment paid off when the bird popped up for a look around, but only for a brief moment. Click click click, the moment was over in the blink of an eye but that’s all the time we needed. I find it amazing how one such opportunity can transform a frustrating day into a wonderful one.

Eurasian Oystercatcher is a Near Threatened species (IUCN Red List)

This young Eurasian Oystercatcher looks distinctly different from the appearance of an adult of the species. This sighting was at the Garðskagi lighthouse near the town of Garður, which is on the Reykjanes Peninsula in the region of Suðurnes, southwestern Iceland.

Its other names are the Unvanquished Turquoise Lake (ma pham g.yu mtsho), Anavatapta, the Ever-cool Lake (mtsho ma dros pa), and the Divine Lotus Lake (padma lha mtsho). It is called the Unvanquished Lake because when one examines all the other great lakes of Tibet to see if they possess the eight qualities of perfect water (chu yan lag brgyad ldan) they are faulty in some respect. It is called Turquoise Lake because its limpid waters resemble a turquoise mandala. It is given the name Ever- cool Lake because it is the palace of the naga king Anavatapta, "Who Never Warms Up."
