Pictures like this are not hard to find in my city. Many people carry fully loaded pizzas with all kinds of toppings. Despite warning by some of medical experts about side effects, pizza is sold without any ID or background checks.

(no photographer was harmed in the process taking this pic)

Peter Pan Bistro is at the same location since the late 1920's. It was even a restaurant before than. The building itself is from 1890. It was originally Bird's Provisions and a Post Office. Left and right of it the buildings are coming down or are being gutted. The car upfront is Plymouth Prowler, manufactured from 1997 to 2002. Only about 11,000 were made and it cost about $40,000 new. Many of the cars were bought as an investment, but the price of well kept, low milage model is now about $30,000. If you hold on another 20-30 years.......

You never know what you'll see from the streetcar window.

Not only was I wondering who on earth was trying to pedal their bikes in a blizzard, but what the heck are those surfboard-like appendages on the bike on the left? Just thought I'd share :~ )

Thanks, Steeker for identifying this as a bike created by someone named Leaf. You can see him ride, er surf, it here.

Week # 04

Theme: Vanishing point

Taken January 26, 2013

So this week's theme was vanishing point.... which I somewhat did with the alley. However, I had the best surprise on Friday, and had to make it the focus of my photo of the week. For my birthday, my sister & nephew flew in from Alberta to surprise me. Fabulous birthday present!!! :)

After a summer of softer themes it became time to shift the gears into something a little more rigorous. I've sat on a huge pile of "street art" shots that I took a few years back and finally decided to take some of them out and manipulate them.

My bows of acknowledgement to the many nameless and faceless artists of Toronto's "Airbrush Alley". A remarkable sight to behold, without a doubt. Each year it's fun to see what stays, what stays but is altered and what disappears to make way for the new.

Friend of my husband did some modelling for us the other day in Graffiti Alley (Queen West). Thought I would upload one of my photos from the shoot onto my photostream.

Another Coca-Cola ghost sign that's been far too easy to date, is the result of the plight of associated business advertised along with the carbonated beverage.

H. J. Lavelle Wines and Spirits, located at 543 Queen Street West opened for business sometime in late 1915. likely the year that Coca-Cola painted the sign.

The aforementioned plight manifested as the provincial government introduced The Ontario Temperance Act, prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages the following year.

Poor Herbert J. Lavelle's business disappeared from the City Directory shortly thereafter.

Prohibition lasted until June of 1926 with the election of Howard Ferguson's government also establishing the Liquor Control Board of Ontario.

The LCBO remains as the only retail source for the purchase of spirits in Ontario...but fortunately you can find Coca-Cola in every corner shop in the province.
