In the steamy days of summer, Far North Queenslanders go to our rivers and streams to refresh their wilting spirits. There, they can experience the liquid call of the butcher bird and the gentle splashes of river cherries dropping into the water (and swat the ever present March flies).

The shade of the river bank and coolness of the fresh water is an excellent restorative.

Some like to express their reverence for our fine waterways by leaving offerings of ‘loaded’ disposable nappies at prominent places on the river banks.

A random selection of wooden Queenslander houses in Northgate, on the northside of Brisbane. I feel there is a different 'look' to Queenslanders on the northside compared to the southside. I should take some southside house photos to compare.

A view of the Queenslander Class Lounge. It usually had more people than this.

I did this watercolour at a workshop. It is an Old Queenslander, named because of its open verandahs & high steps for Queensland's hot weather conditions.

Beautiful wooden homes with wide verandas, breezes through and from below and heritage architectural features.

Queenslander style home

Ipswich, Saturday 15th October

Shot this Queenslander near my place a few weeks back during a lovely sunset - life's tough here :)

I didn't bracket shots so I've painted in Lightroom to bring out the colours in they sky a bit better.

Old Queenslander's. are real gems to photograph. So much character. This is the house that the gentleman in the previous picture has lived in for over seventy years. The house is complete with the old style clothes lines. So simple but so effective. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best.

I think this house is beautiful and it has ocean view.
