In the steamy days of summer, Far North Queenslanders go to our rivers and streams to refresh their wilting spirits. There, they can experience the liquid call of the butcher bird and the gentle splashes of river cherries dropping into the water (and swat the ever present March flies).
The shade of the river bank and coolness of the fresh water is an excellent restorative.
Some like to express their reverence for our fine waterways by leaving offerings of ‘loaded’ disposable nappies at prominent places on the river banks.
A random selection of wooden Queenslander houses in Northgate, on the northside of Brisbane. I feel there is a different 'look' to Queenslanders on the northside compared to the southside. I should take some southside house photos to compare.
I did this watercolour at a workshop. It is an Old Queenslander, named because of its open verandahs & high steps for Queensland's hot weather conditions.
