Tonight the 6th June over 8000 Queenslanders from all walks of life will welcome our newest Queenslanders with the Luminous Lantern Parade and concert in Courier-Mail Piazza South Bank Parklands Brisbane.

even a nice Camellia. This lot will have to carry me for a week. Another fine old Queenslander at Shorncliffe.

Not apparently after it's use by date yet, although showing the odd sign or two. No front steps!

Thanks for stopping by. Appreciate your comments.

I was thinking of this song when I saw this traditional house.

Happy Fence Friday

Deep inside the Nugg's Outsource storm drain we came across thousands of bats hanging from the ceiling. We ducked low and crept underneath them and they stayed asleep and all was well. They didn't seem to mind us passing underneath them, but then a few woke up and were flying around, and then they All woke up, and they started flying up and down the pipe. They created a bat wind in the tunnel. They are amazing fliers and almost never crash into us. Its an amazing experience to have thousands of bats flying fast past you in both directions

The second in this classic Queenslander house with a Jaguar car X - type 2001-09 parked out front . I like it .

The Queenslander (DD 2357), is an ex QR Class 2100 (2109). After Aurizon lost the CBH wheat contact, it was stored here at Picton for a while and then sold and exported to Rovos Rail in South Africa.

At least it still has a future 😊

Brisbane's Royal National Show (known locally as the Ekka which is Queenslander for Exhibition!) would have started last Friday and been in full swing by now. It is Queensland's biggest event and run over ten days. They had nearly fully set up when the Delta version of COVID hit big time, through schools and students this time. An immediate strict lockdown was called and the Show was called off for only the 4th time in its long history, second time by COVID. It had also been called off one year in WWII and during the Spanish Flu. I do feel for those who make their living on the road from event to event, they have had a tough 18 months.

It is pleasing to know that at this stage, the lockdown brought the outbreak under control and has now finished but with significant restrictions still in place. Too late for the show but it would have been a prime breeding ground for community transmission despite having a COVID safe plan.

So what you say is the relationship to these two things? Well, it's kind of my warped mind at work again. We found these unusual seed pods a few months ago when we were in Stanthorpe and down in Quart Pot Creek. I have never seen the like before. They are about 20 cm long and as round as a fat sausage. So therein lies my strange connection. They sort of remind me of one of the Show's most desired junk foods which all genuine Aussies will know ....the Dagwood Dog (sometimes called Pluto Pups). These have been around for years and years and you can usually only buy the really genuine ones at shows. A long frankfurt sausage on a stick dipped in creamy batter and deep fried in oil until golden brown and eaten after liberally plunged into a deep bowl of tomato sauce. A true show delicacy. For some anyway! Well, I don't think I would recommend giving these the treatment the dagwood treatment.

Here is the story of corn dogs, dagwood dogs etc. in their various forms from all over the world. Country variations are explained deeper into the text.

Darkday loves the underground storm drains. She loves to explore them and photograph them and experience them in all their secret beauty. Its an adventure into the dark, wet, quiet depths of the earth were few dare to go.

Window washer’s wish at West End on Wednesday. Brisbane.

Darkday was being very cheeky and rude at the abandoned Hotel. I had so much fun ;) . Here she is with her green dress that has ridden up her thigh a bit revealing her leopard print underwear and fishnet stockings. It sure was an urbex adventure to remember

There are crusty old Queenslanders with this site configuration all over the place in this area. It has the feel of a seaside layabout atmosphere but it's in serious suburbia. Something this Adelaidean is not quite used to.

....a happy home at some time....old "Queenslander" Brisbane Australia.

Darkday uses her supernatural powers to produce a curly blue light that spirals down the drain in an entertaining & hypnotic spin of great beauty

It was a super fun conclusion to our evening of fun light painting. I moved down on to the rocks and spun the whisk of super mega sparkages and created a pandemonium of combustion

Happy Window Wednesday for this poor old place which needs some paint and TLC. Burrum Heads, Queensland.

Another great mural by the artist Fintan Magee. such lovely work!

At the Tropical Queenslander Australia.

Passengers were allowed to stretch their legs during the 7 minute stop.

Knowing that many of the "Lander" air conditioned cars were nearing 50 years of age, and that the Sunlander might cease running within a couple of years, in 2011 we booked a trip from Brisbane to Cairns in "Queenslander class".

We found this old typewriter lying in a pile of other rusty urbex treasures. I went to move it because it looked so amazing and I wanted to photograph it. OMG..! It weighed 20kgs...! It was Super Heavy and it freaked me out a little... Why was it so heavy...? what was it made from...? Gold...?

nice Queenslander style cottage near where I live. Happy Fence Friday/ HFF!

Darkday stands her ground and watches over me as I spin the fiery steel wool into golden arches of hot beauty. Afterwards she runs around and acts like a firefighter checking on any hot embers and putting out any small fires

From deep underground Mr D & Miss D get wild with the wool of mega sparkages and their DSLR cameras to create some underground fire photos

2801 hauls the northbound Queenslander from Brisbane to Cairns through Cardwell

The old, corroded, super heavy, typewriter was an amazing find. It was a bit challenging to take photos of because we didn't have a great place to put it. There was no table where we were. And I wasn't going to carry that 20+ kg behemoth up a balcony and into the house. So we just took some closeups of its beautiful keys

The old Queenslander. This type of house was commonly built in the 1800-1900's. Raised on stumps and with covered verandahs and high ceilings so that breeze could circulate and keep the house cooler in the extreme heat of the long hot summers.

I struggled with pushing the sliders to the extreme and still maintain some integrity in my shot which I could live with, so opted for a bit of slider tweaking and finishing off with a filter selected from Colour Efex. I think there's a harshness in this shot which reflects the tough life of those who worked the land through drought and flood of the Australian summers.

Shot on iPhone 7 Plus.

We finished off the day with a really pleasant walk around the streets looking at some amazing old Queenslander houses - and introducing Gizmo to some new smells.
