The famous Breakfast Creek hotel

Have been browsing through a few images from a trip to Far North Queensland a while ago. Funny how I invariably dismiss all my images on first viewing but given a little time manage to find a few I can live with :)

Haycock Island can be seen from the shores of Palm Cove. It's more commonly called Scout Hat Island as it looks just like that, an over-sized scout hat sitting in the water.

2410 heads away from Mamboo towards Alpha with the west bound Spirit of the Outback as PW57 from Brisbane to Longreach.

Celebrating the record reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history: 23,226 days. NOT!

It's actually an addition to my Erratics series - where I'm trying to pull together a selection of images of things that, perhaps, shouldn't be where there they are - for whatever reason; opinion, chance, accident, mistake, thoughtlessness, expedience, laziness... The photo is taken on 'Queens Road' in Sheffield and the queen has nothing to do with it.

2485H drops down through Murphys Creek with the eastbound Westlander passenger service from Charleville to Roma Street as 3987.

One of three locomotive hauled passenger services left in Queensland, The Westlander operates twice-weekly from Brisbane's Roma Street station to Charleville, some 777km away or 17 hours total travel time. Today the service is a shell of its former self, operating with a power, crew and two economy carriages, a far cry from its heyday with multiple sleeping carriages which were axed in 2014.

The northern end of Thornton Beach, one of the beautiful remote beaches of the Daintree region of Queensland, Australia.

After a brief pause, 2335 gets underway at Edungalba with the twice-weekly container service to Rockhampton from Longreach as 6391.

Once a month, this service extends onto Winton, as well as regularly stopping off at Barcaldine and Alpha to drop loading. This train operates loaded from Rockhampton to deliver supplies to various towns.

Hervey Bay Queensland Australia

2846 and 4001, with 2200 in the middle acting as a “giant compressor” approach another level crossing on the Cloncurry Duchess Road, this one south of Maldon, as they head for Phosphate Hill with IPL combination train 9T76 from Townsville.

The phosphate wagons in the second half of the train require main reservoir pressure to keep the pneumatic equipment closed (doors/lids), resulting in a 2170 class locomotive in the middle to keep main res air flowing through the wagons. The front half sulphuric acid wagons do not have main res, making it impossible to transfer from the lead locomotives.

2391 and 2363 navigate the curves at Laidley with empty Aurizon grain 66A6 heading to Willowburn yard at Toowoomba, before continuing onto either Thallon or Talwood.
