Had a lovely couple of hours in Hardwick park yesterday, the three of us. Took a huge tub of peanuts which got a lot of attention from the water birds, we were surrounded, mostly by ducks, who got really close, it was quite fun to watch them. A fun afternoon with a quacking bunch of nuts.
It's a bit cold on this pond! All frosted up with at least an inch of ice these last two mornings. Brrrrrrrr.
I am officially and deeply into my annual summer photography lull. It is this time of the year that the heat shuts down much of the activity. Nests are vacated and if you do get a good shot of your subject, the leaves are partially eaten/shredded from activity. Getting up early and long drives are rarely worth it. It is this time of the year, not winter, that I am counting the days to our next vacation…63 to be exact!
Here is another shot from the archives as I have been going through thousands of shots and finding a few good ones that I have not shared. Some have never been edited while others are re-edits as my software used today is far superior than that used a few years ago.
Here is a drake Wood duck, mid-quack taken at Perrin Park in Jeffersonville Indiana over five years ago and just edited.
We were driving past some major floods in the West Country when I spotted this little duck on the gate of the flooded field. It had obviously been there quite a while by the look of the cobweb and debris on it. I did wonder whether to 'set it free' in the water, but decided, due to it's damage, it would probably sink, so left it safe on the gate.

The ripples of light motivated me to shoot this but somehow the ripples of light didn't turn out like how I saw it...
34:52 Food – Take your food photography to the next level…or if you haven’t shot food before – It’s not lunch, it’s art!
While in the Okanagan last week, we went to the Grist Mill (a very old flour mill) where they also had lovely gardens and farm animals. Being vegan, I haven't eaten eggs in quite a long while, but when we saw a chicken go into the flower garden and start eating the flowers, my husband said "these are happy chickens" and decided to buy a dozen fresh eggs. Then we found out that not only were they chicken eggs, but also duck and turkey eggs. The eggs looked so pretty I decided to use them for the food theme. Have any of you tried turkey eggs?
