Wm. A. Smith Construction Co., Inc. Railroad Contractors sign. Established in 1924. I believe the old neon sign has been removed and the property sold. This outfit was a mover and shaker in the railroad industry in Houston and across Texas. They eventually expanded to other states. It was located in the industrial corridor along Clinton Drive near Buffalo Bayou, just west of the Houston Ship Channel.

was the advertising trademark for the Whiting Brothers chain of gas stations, cafes, and motels throughout the Southwest, from 1926 until the 1990s.

This toasted building is at exit 163 on Interstate 5 in the small community of Curtin, Oregon. Traveling south on I-5, you can see it to your right from the overpass you're traveling on. I was really thinking this was an old go-cart attraction since across the roadway is a trashed Go-Karts pylon sign. I also looked online for information about this place or the fire. Nothing. But when I did a word search for "Curtin, Oregon," I found these links: www.flickr.com/photos/60348236@N07/52436202079/in/photoli... and www.flickr.com/photos/photo-maniac-spady/51729608509/in/p....

The first link indicates that the fire at this place—which was probably a cafe or perhaps a residential duplex—occured sometime between September 20, 2022 and the date I took this picture, July 8, 2023.

This has since been painted gloss white with some primary blue here and there. Its not an attractive look for such a nicely designed building.

This picture was taken on August 3rd, 2012. Shot on Kodak Ektar 100 film with an Olympus OM-2 and Zuiko 50mm f1.4 lens with polarizer filter. The lab produced this shot with really cheesy, old-school colors. I left the colors alone and only added some contrast and darkened it a bit. Dig the black Thunderbird below the sign.
