I guess I have officially joined the Puzzle Generation.

With spare time on my hands now until I find a job again I have resorted to looking for things to keep me busy.

I can only clean so much and spend so much time doing yard work, and all the misc. chores around the house that I needed something to relax with.

I do read but that makes me sleepy.

So I dug out this puzzle that I purchased a few years ago.

I started it a couple days ago and here is where I am now.

1000 pieces. 20 inches X 27 inches.

A huge puzzle. But so far it has become an addiction.

When I put the word puzzle on the Flickr search I was amazed at all the people that are into puzzle's. Some are really really big.

10000 pieces??

Really.

Puzzle 2

My strategy to puzzles is to start with the borders. Then shapes, the zone colors.

Here is part of the advancement I did on the weekend.

Can you say what is it.

I hope I can go out of the island this weekend. If not then I would stay and finish it.

Enjoy your weekend

Rompecabezas 2

Help! What does one do with excess candy canes?

Since I was tagged by kirs, here's some random facts about me.

1. I check flickr as much as I check twitter and email. Which is like majority of the day!

2. Before getting a DSLR, I had ~50 GB of pics! I have a ton of film too! o_O

3. See kirs' number 6. Love taking pics, but not of me! Unless in a group or in a photo shoot like this one from tenchiboyx's photo stream.

4. See kirs' number 9. :P I too, am obsessed with puzzles, i.e. Rubik's Cubes. See this cube for instance.

5. I get bored easily. Like, really easily. I can be the most busiest person in the world, yet still be bored at the same time. It's analogous to being lonely in a group of 100's of people.

6. I volunteer my time as an event planner at several venues (trade show/convention/festival). Director for 2 of them, Manager for 1, and a point of contact for a city festival.

7. On top of event planning, I intend on going to Los Angeles and Las Vegas several times, Chicago, Hong Kong, Macau, and several other places all in 2010.

8. I honestly have no idea how I'll afford number 7, along with photography. :P

9. I wish to make more friends in Europe/Asia so I have people to talk to when I'm up :)

10. I still have candy canes to give out. :(

Hmmm... who to tag, who to tag....

(Yes, you have to do it again for the nth time! Your random facts are so amusing! XD)

And... anyone on twitter that is discreetly looking at my photos when I tweet about them! At least tell me if you have a photo stream! :P

The town of Towitta was surveyed in 1876 on a former Travelling Stock Route with a good water supply from a spring and the nearby hills. It was proclaimed in 1876 but some farmers took up their land from 1868 as the Hundred of Jellico was declared in 1851 although surveying of land did not begin on the Murray Flats part of this Hundred until the late 1860s. Many of those who took up land here were Wends or Sorbs including Matthes Schippan. Towitta had a few houses, a creek, a church, a cemetery, a Post Office and a school. The school opened in 1880 and finally closed in 1957. The state school began operations in the Wesleyan Church until a school room was built in 1894. When it opened the school had around 27 pupils. A new state school and teacher’s residence was built in the town in 1922. Like all small villages it had a Post Office from 1876 until the 1970s. Despite the German and Wendish background of many settlers the only church built in Towitta was the Wesleyan Methodist Church built in 1874. It closed in 1897 and was purchased by the Congregational Church who used it until 1963 when it permanently closed. As there was no Lutheran cemetery in town the local Wendish and Lutheran settlers used the town cemetery for burials. The earliest burials here occurred in 1885. Some names in the Towitta cemetery are: Harris, Baker, Mullighan, Henke, Kalesch, Mattschoss, Schrapel, Wohlgemuth etc. By 1902 around the time of the Towitta murder the town had a population of 75 people with about 15 dwellings. The greatest population from the censuses for Towitta was in 1911 when it had a population of 186 people in the village and district.

Most people had not heard of Towitta until 1 January 1902 when a famous and puzzling murder took place there. Mary Schippan, 24 years of age (born 1877), was charged with the murder of her sister Bertha Schippan who was 14 years old.

There's a surprisingly bright and almost Mediterranean feel to this photo of a Monkey Puzzle tree.

This is my 500th photo. There's a theme (in two parts). Do you know what it is?

Puzzle 3000 piezas.

Acabandolo.

I'm too lazy to look for solutions myself, so I wrote a program to do it for me. It found 236136 = 9839x24 solutions. Fortunately this agrees with what it says on the box the puzzle comes in :). How hard is it to solve this puzzle? Well the program isn't all that smart but: on average it found a solution every 164000 or so "placements". By a placement I mean putting down one piece somewhere within the cube.

A 4th grade Perkins class begins the new year school with a word puzzle exercise.

There are 5 identical squares.

You can only move 2 straws to create 4 of the same identical squares.

You may not leave an unfinished square.

You may not just take two straws away.

GO.

Will update with a picture of the solution.

I was searching for this old Linda Jane puzzle on Ebay for years. Saw it several times but it was always very expensive. Until I could buy it on Ebay UK for only £ 10. Still sealed.

Now there is another one in this series, "Cats in the Library -Quiet please", I will have to search fot that.

Puzzle Master's Great Collision

The Amur falcon (Falco amurensis) is a small raptor of the falcon family. It breeds in south-eastern Siberia and Northern China before migrating in large flocks across India and over the Arabian Sea to winter in Southern Africa. It was earlier treated as a subspecies of the red-footed falcon (Falco vespertinus) and known as the Eastern red-footed falcon. Males are dark grey with reddish brown thighs and undertail coverts; reddish orange eye-ring, cere, and feet. Females are duller above with dark scaly markings on white underparts, an orange eye ring, cere, and legs. Only a pale wash of rufous is visible on their thighs and undertail coverts. Their diet consists mainly of insects such as termites and during migration over the sea, are thought to feed on migrating dragonflies.

These falcons roost in large numbers on KPNR and also in nearby Lydenburg (Check out the large Monkey Puzzle tree at sunset).

Y dale ~, ya se ve algo xD.

Purchased, built and documented in one day for "The Circuit Bending Challange".

OK. We finally met our match. Usually it takes a month or four to get some of these big puzzles together. This one required many efforts over a 10 month period. It isa 5000 piece Falcon De-Luxe Puzzle challenge of color and duplicate shapes. Finally, we can restore the puzzle, take down our pinpong table, and get back to business. Since it is nearly December, we can rest before starting another one scheduled for December 15th. Hopefully it won't take as long. Whew!

Graham added: "All looks complete though isolated because a large blue wire is attached, which is puzzling as I thought earthing wires were green. The mysterious green wire still runs all the way on the ground."
