After I broke my sesamoid bone, I was advised by the podiatrist to stop running for a while, so while everyone is taking laps around the park at bootcamp, I am doing pushups and other exercises on my own at the mats.

You've gotta... You have to... When at a street festival it is important to... I give up. I do not posess enough reasoning capabilities to figure out the why of what is happening here. Clearly he is doing push-ups, with beer on his head. People are cheering him on, so it obviously is important and noble. The cultural significance escapes me, however.
