This young man is 22 years old, married, one child, speaks a little English. Probably he lives in a nomad camp nearby. Nomad people earn money by performing at the fair, but it is a colorful and interesting spectacle - and very original.
Pushkar is a town bordering the Thar Desert, in the northeastern Indian state of Rajasthan. It's set on Pushkar Lake, a sacred Hindu site with 52 ghats (stone staircases) where pilgrims bathe. The town has hundreds of temples, including 14th-century Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, dedicated to the god of creation, which has a distinctive red spire and walls inlaid with pilgrims’ silver coins.
There are many legends associated to the birth of Pushkar and Pushkar Fair. One thing is clear that most of them are associated with Lord Brahma. It is said that in a battle, Lord Brahma killed the demon Vajra Nabh with a lotus flower, whose petals floated down to earth and landed in three places in and around Pushkar where lakes sprang up.

Walking around on the Pushkar Camel Fair in India is absolutely an overwhelming experience. Once you are surrounded by thousands of camels and their traders it is as if you have entered another world. There are so many beautiful animals, bright colours and interesting faces that you just don't know where to look. But when you get a little used to the chaos, you will find plenty of amazing photo opportunities.

Pushkar is one of the oldest existing cities of India. It lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Brahma with its creation.
Pushkar Lake is located in the town of Pushkar in Ajmer district of the Rajasthan state of western India. Pushkar Lake is a sacred lake of the Hindus. The Hindu scriptures describe as it as "Tirtha-Raj" – the king of pilgrimage sites related to a water-body and relate it to the mythology of the creator-god Brahma, whose most prominent temple stands in Pushkar. The Pushkar Lake finds mention on coins as early as the 4th century BC.

Pushkar lake is considered holy and people bathe in the ghats (steps) despite the chilly winter temperatures. Unlike Varanasi, it's forbidden to take photos along the lakeshore. These were taken from the rooftop of Pushkar Cafe Hotel. Consumption of meat, alcohol and eggs is also forbidden in the city, I only violated one of those regulations.
