of a Hong Kong Orchid Tree---------- named as the floral emblem of Hong Kong and can be found on the coins, flag and coat of arms there.
Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden.
Fuchsia is a vivid purplish red color, named after the flower of the fuchsia plant, which took its name from the 16th century German botanist Leonhart Fuchs. The color fuchsia was first introduced as the color of a new aniline dye called fuchsine, patented in 1859 by the French chemist Francois-Emmanuel Verguin.
Why did I chose a rainy, windy day to try to photograph my first hummingbirds?
Because this little cutie began perching on our rhodie when not at the feeder. Besides, what could be more fun or poignant than tiny wet feathers.
Absolutely no enhanced hues! When this (Anna's?) hummingbird stretches its neck, the magenta glistens, even in the rain and lack of sun. If you know the ID and gender, please do tell!

Many thanks for looking! I hope to improve my mood soon.
Not a macro this time :-)
Amaryllis H. Red Pearl in full glory. I love how the purplish red hues shine through the petals and how the veins are so beautifully visible.

Title is a Chris de Burgh song
Bauhinia blakeana or Hong Kong Orchid Tree is an orchid tree of the genus Bauhinia with large thick leaves and striking purplish red flowers. The fragrant, orchid-like flowers are usually 10 to 15 centimetres (3.9 to 5.9 in) across, and bloom from early November to the end of March. Although now cultivated in many areas, it originated in Hong Kong.
Known as Bauhinia blakeana in scientific parlance, the Hong Kong orchid tree is something of an enigma. Rather than being allied to what many of us think of as "real" trees, it’s a legume, which means its close kin include not oaks and sequoias, but the common or garden pea. Then, it could be that every Hong Kong orchid tree alive today is descended from a single tree. And, even though the flower has been Hong Kong’ s emblem since 1965, no one is sure if the tree is a true species, or a hybrid.
I love the time and in between
The calm inside me
In the space where I can breathe
I believe . . .

"Top's" and "Bottom's" haha, lower left. There are icicle lights hung in the window of the center storefront and I would love to see them get turned on some night.
