This small fishing lake is situated within the Frickley Country Park, a reserve created on the site of Frickley Colliery once renowned for being the most productive coal mine in the UK.
Since the pit closure the land has been reclaimed and turned into a country park with a series of paths created for ease of access.
This pond is on the site of the old Pump Room at the colliery henceforth it is known locally as "The Pump", it was once two lakes seperated by a thin piece of land, however the lake was made into one and an island created in the middle, the lake is of unusual depth 15 to 16 feet just off the island and is a popular spot for local fishermen.
As is the norm in Newcastle, there is a bank of clouds that for a large period of the year that sits off the coast on the horizon, killing sunrise. This day was no different.

I came across this in a remote village in the Limousin in February 2005. The weather was bitingly cold and I was puzzled to know how the water from the spout could reach the granite trough.
I've forgotten the name of the village - does anyone recognise it from this picture?

Vintage Basketball-Football Hand Pump - This pump is vintage 1950. It used to belong to my older sister. It’s mine now. When she figures out I’ve got it - she’ll want it back. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Abandonment is another issue. Maybe if I’m in a good mood when she asks - I’ll give it back. The only reason it still exists is because I have kept it safely in a closet with other junk.
