One of the greatest gifts of mindfulness and meditation has been developing emotional awareness and acceptance. Where before I used to identify with any stressed state; presuming it to reflect my reality; I'm now learning to view fear or doubt for what they are: transient reactions to the fact that I'm taking on new, expanding elements in my life. Where before I used to equate discomfort to a need to 'abort mission', I now acknowledge it, try to curiously and briefly ascertain its origin and then go ahead and do it anyway. Reflexive, instead of reactive. I'm emotionally registering that fear really is an illusion - particularly in our overstimulated society today - and I know that the person I want to be exists beyond it. So 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' is mantra today (and hopefully every tomorrow to come!)
