On a cold, dark, and very windy morning, this Black-capped Chickadee puffed up its feathers for insulation.
Calceolaria tomentosa/ Slipper Flower
Family: Calceolariaceae ( Scrophulariaceae)
The Yellow Slipper Flower, Calceolaria tomentosa, has unusual, air-filled blossoms (purse shape) that are super bright yellow. It's hard to capture their brightness in photos, but they light up shady areas like light bulbs.
The plant comes from the cool Andes mountains around Peru, and it is sensitive to heat. If you can provide the right conditions, it's an excellent collector's plant.
It has unusual leaves that are fuzzy like velvet - hence the species name tomentosa, meaning "hairy" in Latin. The name Calceolaria means "little shoe", referring to the slipper-shaped blooms. These flowers appear most months of the year, and as you can see, it makes lots of blooms.
The Slipper Flower prefers mild temperatures and cool nights. It might not thrive if temperatures regularly get above 29°C, especially if nights are above 18°C.
This forest plant prefers filtered sun, and needs protection from strong afternoon sun. It prefers well-draining soil that is kept evenly moist. Over about 50% humidity is best. In the right conditions, it's a vigorous grower.

Female House Finch wishing you a WARM & HAPPY NEW YEAR on a dull gray winter afternoon.
Common all-season bird-feeder visitor. Some consider the female of this species boring, but like their mates, I find both neat.
Sails catch the breeze, skies wide and proud,
Puffy clouds drift, a soft, white crowd.
Waves whisper low, the horizon's near,
Sailing in peace, with dreams to steer.
These Mourning Doves were just about the only ones to make an appearance on a sweltering hot Florida morning. Thanks for being there ladies!
This was my view from my campsite ( June 2022 ) atop a 100 foot cliff overlooking this man made lake. There were several homes and cottages across the way of which these people had the pleasure of a houseboat, canoe, fishing boat or a sail boat to keep themselves happily occupied !

A view looking up and to the southeast at a fuel station in Sonora, Texas, while driving out to Big Bend National Park. The skies that afternoon with clouds and wisps were captivating. I also wanted to capture some of these sky settings to use the Photoshop Sky Replacement tool with other images.
