Fun sculptures by Spanish artist Santi Flores. He says they are figures showing individuality but demonstrating we can all come together . . . maybe. I just saw all these hands raised like excited children waving a greeting. They're lots of fun on Broadway between 40th and 38th Streets. I like the way they look like they're tickling the buildings.

The State Emblem of Wyoming, the "Cowboy State", is a "Bucking Horse and Rider", and the State Sport is "Rodeo".

So, this large-scale bronze sculpture on the West lawn of the State Capitol Building is entirely appropriate. The statue and its base stand18 feet tall (5.5m), and is named by the sculptor, Ed Fraughton, "The Spirit of Wyoming".

The Meeting statue is a celebration of two people, two faiths and two distinct cultures coming together 400 years ago. In 1615, Chief Aenon of the Huron Wendat presents the Wampum belt, a symbolic gesture of friendship and alliance to welcome Samuel de Champlain and the French people to their land.

The simple and elegant memorial to the 263 Staten Island residents who died on 9/11 and the WTC bombing in 1993.

A separate memorial near the site honors the 73 Staten Island

responders who have since died from exposure to the toxins downtown from the collapse of the buildings. Designed by architect Masayuki (Masa) Sono.

This memorial puts a face to a name. Inside the wings are profiles of each person; their date of birth; what they did and who they worked for. It reminds you of how we all play a part in making the world work.

A circle is a beautiful shape but it is closed and nothing can go out and nothing can come in. This circle is open and the resulting force is like that of a powerful magnet. In life one must allow the movement of forces in and out of one’s soul and one’s self.

The painting of the staircase is reflecting the history of Captain Sand's Slip (山市船臺) & also the origin of the name - Sands Street.

Captain Sand's Slip is a Patent Slip that has an inclined plane extending from shoreline into water, featuring a "cradle" onto which a ship is first floated, and a mechanism to haul the ship, attached to the cradle, out of the water onto a slip. EN:: Best photographed at night when there are no background distractions, this art installation in a pond in the Tiergarten, Berlin. spoke to me of the adjustments societies had to make to the advent of shopping trolleys in supermarkets.

The very functional trolley that came after the advent of self service shopping coupled with carparks, meant that shoppers able to walk the trolley out of hte shopping centres and leave them strewn around the environs. Then came the temptation for anti-social individuals to take the trolleys further, dumping them in ornamental ponds, lakes even rivers.

Artistically this appealed because of the duplication by reflection, the waterline not immediately apparent.

The visible memory has remained, but the artist, the gallery and the specific location have all faded from memory. However, we would be most pleased to have any of that information, if there is any viewer who recognizes or recalls this installation.

Our back story::

On our very first day in Berlin, we had so enjoyed many significant landmarks and encounters with people, that we just had to do some more exploring that night. As the night settled and the traffic quietened we were prepared to take our car into this unfamiliar city (driving on the other side of the road from what we are familiar with!) so quieter places like the Tiergarten seemed wise. We found it full of surprises - this art installation being one of them.

Claim Post, 2011

Painted steel, 305 x 270 x 80 centimetres

London sculptor Scott McKay has staked his claim in Windsor's riverfront parks with the addition of his 10-foot steel sculpture Claim Post, the 41st sculpture to join the park's collection.

Claim Post was installed in 2012. Designed to attract attention and mark a significant location, it is located at the foot of Oak Street in the Windsor Sculpture Park. According to its creator, "Claim Post marks the potential and proven resources in a vibrant city." It is also a narrative of the sculptor's creative process.

Created from steel, the 7-foot blue pole features flowing yellow, red and orange ribbons representing creative energy, while the post draws on the strength of community.

Button (Even Life) is a metaphorical work with buttons as its subject among the object works. It is a series of sculptures in Seosomun-dong, and it recognizes the button circle as life, and metaphorically expresses the people living different lives by making each button different. 'Even Life' contains the meaning of living a positive, bright life of helping and relying on each other, rather than an anxious and unstable life of odd numbers.

For over two decades, Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo has been decorating the streets of Elora with a unique collection of lantern sculptures.

During the month of October, visitors started coming to Elora from all over Southern Ontario to see the display.

In 2007, Julie Denneny and a crew of community volunteers brought the Monster March, a non-motorized parade that encourages families (including pets!) to dress up in their favourite costumes and participate, and it has been a main event during Monster Month ever since.

As popularity grew, local artists, community groups, businesses, and other organizations started adding themed events, leading to the name “Monster Month in Elora.”

In 2017, Sensational Elora, with the support of some generous sponsors, purchased the collection of the monsters, known as The Twilight Zoo, subsequently organizing storage, repair, lighting, and installation of the 100+ wire sculptures. They also accepted responsibility for the Monster March parade. Next, they organized a Monster Month Committee, with representation from all participating organizations, created a website featuring all events and started marketing a coordinated “Monster Month in Elora.” event.

Spooky-themed events and haunted offerings throughout Centre Wellington include a Self-Guided Tour, Spirit and Ghost Walks, Spooky Stables, Lantern Tours, Magicians, “Monster March”, a haunted house, guided tours and theme movies. The list of events continues to grow each year, with over 50 events from more than 20 community partners in 2024.
