Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is rumoured to be coming to Disneyland Paris in 2017, in time for the 25th Anniversary.
I like recreating graphics related to Disney theme park attractions. So, in this case, I took a screenshot of the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue logo, from one of Disney's promo videos for the ride. I then rebuilt it completely from scratch, in Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 at 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160). Finally I added some French text, and the year of opening.

I messed around with this image quite a bit. For some reason low contrast images are difficult for me to deal with.

So I discovered blender 2 days ago and made this. It's a 3D version of my PNG 9mm PDW, yeah.

It's not EXACTLY the same, but hey, close enough.
I slightly textured it and tried to do a not-too-high poly model, this is what it gave. I changed some details (like the folding charging-handle)

To start with the positives. I really like how the helmet design came out. It looks menacing and has quite a decent amount of detail without needing facial features. However the air holes on the sides of the helmet did cause some weird problems with the edges that were placed after using the Boolean tool. The neck is personally one of the best features on the model as it not only looks good in terms of its mesh (due to not being complicated), but I was able to use the UV Editor to properly scale and transform the mesh so I got the Chainmail Texture to look right. The Chest area of the body was difficult to proportion but I eventually got it to looking decent. I was able to get in decent detail in the shoulder region with the Shoulder Guards looking quite intimidating.
However, there are quite a lot of negatives in terms of the model. I personally hate how blocky and stiff the arms and legs look. Because of that I had to opt for using the Silver Armour Texture instead of the Chainmail one as the shape of the arms and legs lacked enough detail for the Chainmail Texture to work. I also had to use minimal amounts of UV Mapping on other parts of the body besides the neck and helmet due to lack of time. I also had problems designing the hands (which also look too square shaped) but I managed to create them individually and then combine them to the body and weld the vertices to the wrist. I also think the feet look a bit too large and bulky but that could be edited on in the future. I feel that if I had more time to detail out better legs and arms I would be more satisfied with the overall model.
As for things I’ve learned from creating this model. This is the first Human model I’ve ever created so I learnt a bit about human anatomy and how to model certain appendages and personally I think it doesn’t look too bad for a first attempt. I mainly learnt how to use the Multi-Cut Tool to add in Edge Loops and how to Combine and Weld different objects together. I feel that if I was to try to make this model again with a similar two week time frame I would be able to achieve a better result.
I used 3 different textures whilst creating this model. These are a Silver Metal Texture, A Gold Metal Texture and a Chainmail Texture. I will leave links to where I got them from here.
