This is the face of the Queen of Steam ensconsed forever in a tomb (albeit a quiet magnificent one). Southern Railway 4-6-2 Pacific #1401 is the heaviest object in all of the Smithsonian's vast collections. She was built by ALCO in their Richmond works in 1926 and is the sole survivor of a class of 64 similar locomotives built by Alco and Baldwin.
In 1925, Southern Railway president Fairfax Harrison traveled to the United Kingdom, where he admired the London and North Eastern Railway's use of green-painted steam locomotives. That trip inspired the appearance of the second order of Ps-4s, which was being built in nearby Richmond to be painted in Sylvan green with gold leaf trimming and lettering. Ultimately, this scheme would be applied to all of the SOU's passenger locomotives.
These stunning machines would pull the Southern's finest named trains on all their major routes including most apropos of all for such royalty, along the Queen and Crescent route between Cincinnati and New Orleans.
Much has been written about the 1401 given her larger than life public presence as the representative of the steam era in the fabulous America On the Move exhibit at Smithsonian's Museum of American History. One particularly interesting piece of her story is how she got into the museum in 1961. to learn more click this link. I highly recommend it!

1401 had a relatively short service life account the Southern was one of the first roads to completely dieselize by 1953. And, she probably rarely if ever came to D.C. during her careet since the PS4s often came off at the Spencer shops where they were serviced and turned. However, given that the Southern Railway was the only Class 1 ever headquartered in our nation's capital this seems like a rightful choice to represent the steam era to generatioms of Americans who never experienced it.

Second model in a mini series of Miniland-scale versions of LEGO sets is this 2020 Ford S550 Mustang Shelby GT500. The LEGO version of this car is new for 2023 in the Technic series, set nr. 42138.
This is about my tenth iteration of the S550 Mustang originally launched in 2014. The S550 is about to finish production, and its replacement S650 generation to commence. I have instructions to build both these generation cars.
Interestingly - I was very critical of the design of this LEGO Technic set, being fortunate enough to drive a very similar Mustang GT in the same Grabber Lime colour. The Technic set is a lot better in 3D in your hand, but the box art does not.
The 2020 GT500 was unveiled at the January 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is powered by a hand-built 5.2-liter "Predator" aluminum-alloy V8 engine with a 2.65-liter roots-type supercharger. The Shelby GT500 produces 760 hp (567 kW; 771 PS) and 625 lb⋅ft (847 N⋅m) of torque. However, it will not arrive to the European market due to the V8 5.2 liter motor being unable to comply with European road regulations, therefore it will only focus on North America and Middle Eastern countries.
Its top speed is 195 mph (314 km/h), but in America it is limited to 180 mph (290 km/h). The Michelin PS4S tires are upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 with the GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack.

Dear Partner! For this edition Id love something in the color palette of the first photo. Cindy Marvels also has some gorgeous palettes that I already added to my favorites. Think the beach, the sand, a cool breeze and the warm sun. Id love soft tones with a pop of color. I love low volume and linen. I think, judging from these pictures found mostly from Pinterest, for this round, I like warm colors and neutral backgrounds. Okay, with the exception of the gold (which normally is SO NOT ME, but something about those colors and the piecing style really remind me of fall down here) and the bottom left image which is more saturated than what I just described. Oops.
As always, I like and am drawn to improvisational piecing styles and scrappier projects. I will LOVE whatever you make for me. Really.

Some inspiration for my partner... I'm going for typical Christmas colors - green, red... - as long as they are not too dark :-) I love white or light grey or off white for the background and I definitely prefer modern fabrics.
