Jasper often prowls the shrubberies in the neighborhood. He likes to see if he can find kitty cats. He really wants to meet them, but their posture when we do encounter a cat seems to indicate that they don't particularly want to meet him. We get the classic Halloween cat pose with arched back, tail up, bared teeth and a hiss. But Jasper is always kind, wanting only an inter-species encounter.
It was a real thrill to see this beautiful leopard up close as it makes its way through the tall grasses.
Adult leopards live a solitary life and are territorial. They marked their territory on trees with claw marks and urine. They only interact with another leopard when mating.
They can run at 57km/hr , leap a horizontal distance of 6m and a vertical distance of 3m. It usually carries its hunted prey up a tree to feed, away from the scavengers.
The African male leopard weighs about 60kg and the female around 40kg.

Happy Sunday
It was really interesting watching the squirrels and how they behave. This one was a bit different as had a really dark tail... he would creep up and grab a nut and run off to cover when the others where too busy eating... the others sat quite boldly.... but if they seen this one he got chased.
The American Avocet spends most of its time foraging, largely for aquatic invertebrates. I read that females sometimes place their eggs in another female's nest, letting the host do all the work of incubation. Its called brood parasitism. I guess the avocets don't have a real sense of family. And some of them are apparently a bit lazy 😜
It was great fun watching this Ridgeway Rail 'on the prowl' along with a couple others. Normally you don't see them out in the open like this.
Thank you for your visit and comments.
Great Blue Herons love to prowl in a slow stealth like manner to approach their catch of the day which is today's special...fish !
Sometimes of course they will eat crabs or snakes...bon appetite !
Pushing on that trigger is like pulling magic into my very soul...Darrell.

The Tiger is the third of all zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Ox set off the night before and was first. Tiger arrived early the next morning and was second. Rat secretly climbed onto Ox and jumped down when he saw the Jade Emperor. Ox and Tiger were pushed back to second and third. Despite his protests, Tiger could only settle with being the third zodiac. (chinesenewyear.net/zodiac/tiger/)
