The most decisive changes in a person rarely arrive with theatrical force. They do not always appear as renunciation, collapse, or dramatic reversal. More often, they begin in subtler territory: in altered texture, in diminished urgency, in the strange discovery that something once charged with immediate power no longer commands the same interior obedience. This image inhabits that threshold. A man walks through a night street still populated by the familiar conditions of attraction, yet the old reflex has weakened. The woman remains visible. Beauty remains visible. The world has not withdrawn its provocations. What has shifted is not the scene, but the structure of response. The same pull appears, yet it no longer feels sovereign.
That distinction is what makes the image more interesting than a simple morality tale. Nothing here suggests numbness, contempt, or denial. The woman is not rendered threatening, and desire is not treated as though it has disappeared from the earth. She passes through the frame as a real person in her own right, neither inviting nor resisting, neither symbol nor snare. The man notices her presence, but his notice does not mature into pursuit. His gaze does not fasten. His attention does not elongate into inward possession. He continues walking. The moment therefore presents not absence of attraction, but the loss of attraction’s former authority. What once could have reorganized consciousness now registers and passes. That is a deeper change than repression, because repression remains haunted by the thing it must forcibly bury. This image suggests something quieter and more durable: a reordered threshold of importance.
From an existential-phenomenological standpoint, the scene concerns how consciousness changes its relation to the same world. Human beings do not merely encounter objects; they inhabit meanings. A street, a face, a passing figure, a shared atmosphere at night—these do not appear as neutral data. They arrive already interpreted through memory, appetite, fear, fantasy, and habit. Earlier in a fractured inner life, attraction may function like a command. It seizes the field of awareness, narrows the horizon, and converts another person into the center of gravity for a few loaded seconds. But interpretation can weaken where it once intensified. The same stimulus can lose its monopoly. The woman is still visible; the man is simply no longer seized in the same way. The object has not changed, but the inward world that once enlarged it beyond proportion has begun to lose its hold.
This is where the image’s dark romantic undertone becomes unusually mature. Dark romance often turns on intensity—on hunger, fixation, the almost sacred seriousness with which longing tries to interpret chance encounters as summons. Here, however, the darkness is not gone; it has become translucent. The romantic charge remains as a residue, not a ruler. The scene still carries night, distance, ambiguity, and the old possibility of inward projection, but none of these elements are allowed to totalize experience. The man does not harden against beauty. He simply refuses to be drafted by it. That refusal gives the image its melancholy dignity. Something has ended, but not because the world has become poorer. It has ended because illusion has grown less convincing.
Psychologically, this image depicts the early stages of freedom as a shift in felt inevitability. Many patterns of desire endure because they are experienced not merely as impulses, but as necessities. They seem to arise from somewhere deeper than choice, almost as though the self must obey them in order to remain itself. That is why genuine change often first appears as surprise. One suddenly discovers that an old compulsion no longer carries the same voltage. The mind does not lunge where it once lunged. The body does not follow where it once followed. The imagination does not immediately begin building a private world around a passing figure. This is not sainthood. It is interruption becoming habit. It is compulsion meeting resistance not through violence, but through reduced enchantment.
The theological resonance of the image deepens the matter further. In Confessions to the Empty Chair, moral struggle often unfolds not first at the level of visible action, but at the level of orientation, consent, and inward allegiance. The memoir’s preface frames life as a contest between discordant strains, one loud and vain, the other sorrowed yet beautiful, each shaping how reality is felt and interpreted. The book also insists that physical and spiritual reality are not sealed apart, but commingled, each rippling into the other. This image belongs to that logic. The sidewalk remains physical, the passerby remains physical, but the decisive event is spiritual and interpretive. A hierarchy within the self has begun to reorder. Desire is still present, but it no longer rules uncontested. The old counterfeit liturgy has not vanished, yet its notes have weakened.
That weakening matters because freedom is often misunderstood. Freedom is not the condition of never feeling the pull. It is the restoration of proportion. It is the recovery of the ability to see what is there without surrendering to what once attached itself to sight. The image therefore does not celebrate escape from the world. It presents a person remaining in the world under changed terms. He still walks at night. He still encounters beauty. He still feels the atmosphere of possibility. But possibility no longer becomes private captivity. In that sense, the scene marks the beginning of interior chastening, not through fear, but through differentiation. He can now distinguish between noticing and needing, between attraction and inward compliance.
What makes the image quietly haunting is that nothing outside confirms the transformation. There is no applause, no witness, no overt sign that anything morally meaningful has happened. To an observer, it may look like nothing at all: two people passing on a sidewalk. Yet some of the most consequential movements of the soul are legible only from within. The old script tries to begin; it does not complete itself. The old claim of inevitability rises; it fails to persuade. The self, once accustomed to obeying a certain kind of gravity, now continues forward under its own recovered weight.
Confessions to the Empty Chair — It No Longer Felt The Same captures the moment when temptation loses some of its mythology. The same world remains. The same beauty remains. The same possibility remains. But a person is no longer enthralled in the same way. That does not mean the struggle is over. It means the lie of inevitability has started to break. And once that lie breaks, the soul begins to remember that transformation is not always loud. Sometimes it is simply this: the old pull is still there, but it no longer feels like the final word.

Inviting festival-goers to slow down, reflect on how to be a loving activist and citizen, and hand-make healthy and strategic responses to injustices harming our world. Expect thoughtful provocation and threads of radical hope woven through every session across the weekend.
There were so many opportunities to find out more about – and take part in – Sarah’s gentle, quiet and creative campaigning.
A packed weekend for Sarah who wanted to do even more but there was no capacity:
1. Sold out and oversubscribed 'Stitchable Changemakers' 90min workshop for 50 participants to learn how they could use their gifts, talents, content and power to be the most effective and compassionate gentle protesters on issues they care about
2. 1. Sold out and oversubscribed 'Dream-Making ' 90min workshop for 50 participants to channel their anger and sadness at injustices they see into focusing on what utopian visions they want to see, hear, smell, touch and even taste as their dream
(e.g. save the bees changes to 'I dream of happy bees') which then helps each maker learn ways they can be part of the dream they wish to see - all based on neuroscience.
3. "Crafterthoughts' evening session where craftivists brought their own projects to Show and tell us about including the successes, challenges, learnings and answer any questions by others. Some people came with half formed ideas they wanted advice on from the group on how to deliver effectively and strategically. Some people came just to listen and learn. All made new connections and friends and you could feel the solidarity and encouragement in the room!
4. Sunday sunset last event was our climate craftivism performance: Craftivist Collective members joined members of Leena Norms’ Gumption Club wearing their upcycled 'Canary Craftivists' outfits to walk silently through the festival and sit as a flock to send photos and a handmade happy lifesized canary to the local MP and the owner of the festival grounds to encourage them to protest Greenbelt festival from the climate crisis and do what they can to act faster and bolder to create a healthier world
5. Planned pop-up appearance at The Caravan of Love for passersby to take part in a 10minute drop in craftivism workshop supporting Fashion Revolution to take home and 'shop drop'
6. Planned pop-up appearance under a free in the festival's mini forest area for passersby to take part in a 15minute drop in craftivism workshop choosing one of 5 Gentle Nudge messages on woven labels to sew into their clothes or accessories to encourage them as kind citizens and stewards of our planet
7. Overflowing tent of hundreds of people for Sarah interviewing Patrick Grant: BBC Great British Sewing Bee judge and fashion designer interviewing him about his work and book 'Less' whilst 3 craftivists sat on stage with us silently make Mini Fashion Statements during the session that Patrick then threw out into the audience encouraging them to 'shop-drop' these handwritten mini scrolls into fast fashion shop pockets or their friends pockets to encourage shoppers to ask 'who made these clothes' and be curious consumers
8. Sarah wrote and handstitched a prayer she was asked to read at the Sunday Communion on stage infront of thousands of attendees.
9. Throughout the festival Sarah was interviewed for social media teams for Greenbelt, Christian Aid and podcasts and had informal conversations with festival goers

We strongly condemn the incident of violence in Chandrabhaga Hostel in which a student of CSRD was beaten up by Arjun and Sohail, who were in an inebriated state1 without any provocation. These goons also abused girl students sitting . outside the hostel. Such repeated incidents of violence are destroying the academic environment of our campus. The UPA Government has completed two years 1n office in May this year The UPA Government came 1nto office with a mandate to uphold seculansrn and to chart out a path of socto-economic development wh1ch would benefit all sections of the people, particularly the work1ng people and the weaker sections. However, even after complet1ng two years in office, the UPA Government has fatled to bring about any s1gntficant Improvement in the lives of the common people because of its pohctes a1med at benefitmg the nch and elites of the country rather than the common masses. .
A dtrect result of the pursuance of these set of pohc1es has been a masstve pnce nse wh1ch IS hitting the poor man very hard. The prices of various essential commodities have increased tn a range from 12% to 84%. This being the wholesale pnce, at the retail level, the consumer will be paying even more. The pnces of essential food grains like dal, have also shot up alarmingly At the wholesale market. the pnces of urad dal wheat and chana have gone up by 84%, 68% and 23% respectively compared to October 2005. This massive hike In prices of essential commodities is a result of the policy of the government to allow futures trading In these important commodities. By this act, the government is essentially allowing speculative transactions in the essential commodities market which is keeping the prices up. The players tn this futures market is not the farmer but the trader The produce from the farmers has already been acquired at prices much below what is bemg quoted tn the market. Because of speculative transactions in thts market, the prices nse and the consumer ends up paying a higher price. The net result beJng that the farmer does not benefit from these high prices and the consumer has to bear the burden of higher price. In short, the policies of the UPA Government is resulting in a situation in which the farmers' plight is not improving and private traders are making huge profits in the essential commodities futures market at the cost of the common man, the consumer. It ts shameful that while the common people are suffenng due to price rise, the government is allow1ng traders to reap profit by speculating in the commodity market Th1s exposes complete disregard of the Congress led UPA Government for the p tght of the Aam Admi. .
The sttuation of the masses has been further worsened because of the government s dects on to i.,crease the prices of petroleum products, cittng the 1ncrease rn international pnces as the reason It has been a long pendmg demand of the left parties to revise the tax structure of the petroleum products to lessen the tax burden on them However the Government 1n a most stubborn manner has refused to accept thts proposal wh1ch w11l ease out the burden on the common people of our country The UPA's reluctance to forego a certain amount of tax for the benefit of the people, while it is ready to run an extra mile to give huge tax concessions to the elites for the SEZs exposes its apathy to the plight of the common people in our country. .
While the common people of our country are bemg hit hard by the price nse, the farmers 1n our v1llages continue to commit su1cide. As mentioned earlier, the benefits of the price rise is not reaching the farmers. w1th a parasitic trading class jacking up the price for windfall garns Whtle the farmers are committing su1c1de due to non-payment of debts, the Government has not addressed the problem of debt relief of the farmers going to the extent of not Implementing the National Commission of Farmers recommendations of grvtng loans to the farmers at an mterest rate of 4% per annum. As a result of this denial of the Government, nearly two thirds of our farmers cannot access instttuttonal credit and are trapoed by the local moneylender charging exorbrtant interest rates. Given the low price that the farmer gets for his produce, the inability to repay the debt keeps mounting leading ultimately to distress suicides, with the government being a mute spectator. .
It has been the left whtch has earned forward struggles agatnst these anti-people poltctes In Rajasthan a masstve farmers' agitation is going on under the leadership of the CPI(M)-CPI where the BJP government has unleashed the army on the agitating farmers, arresting leaders of the movement and injuring women leaders. In Himachal Pradesh. the Congress Government organized a brutal crackdown on the workers under the banner of CITU where three comrades sacrificed their lives in the working class movement. The leader of the movement Com. Kashmiri Singh was brutally tortured in police custody m a failed attempt by the government to breakdown the will of the agitating workers. Throughout August-September massive protests and ag1tations were organrzed by the left on UPA's failures on every front. The BJP led BaJrang Dal went to the extent ot attacking a meetmg of Com Brinda Karat dunng thrs campaign in Raipur. While the Left is engaged 1n a mass1ve struggle on the issues of livelihoods of the people, the Congress and BJP are orchestratrng brutal repression on the protestors. Even then, the determtned struggle of the Left is witnessing increasmg support from all sections of the people. It seems that the ultra-left in this campus, the AISA, OSU, PSU are completely oblivious to these struggles of the people against the policies of the UPA. It is shameful that the massive repression unleashed on the farmers in Rajasthan, workers in Himachal Pradesh and act1vists of the left elicit no response or condemnation from them in JNU. This exposes the blatant sectarian politics that these organizations indulge rn under the garb of an ultra-left rhetoric. We appeal to the students to isolate such sectarian politics of the ultra-left. Even in campus during the recent agitat1on we witnessed an eagerness among these organizations to avoid any major confrontation with the administration and their willingness to compromise at an MCM amount of Rs1000/-instead of Rs1500/-which the JNUSU ultimately achieved. We appeal to tile student community to untte agatnst the anti-people polic1es of the BJP·Congrrsc:: ·~md rally wrth the gemune forces of the Left which are engaged tn real and substanttal struggles rather than mere rhetonc Sdl· Subhanil Chowdhury, Secretary, SFI-JNU Sd/-Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, AISF..JNU .

Intoxication, provocation and bluff about their audience are an integral part of the cyberstalker methods. The goal is to enforce a strong mental pressure in order to create isolation, distress and suicidal impulses for the victims. It is of importance to analyse the data with cold blood, while the picture can be less or even not dramatic. Moreover, this analysis, while assessing risks and opportunities, can become an integral part of the approach intended to trash the malevolent Twitter user.
